Heating/drying problems are a far too common issue with dishwashers of all types, including Amana brand dishwashers. When the dishwasher isn’t heating or drying properly, it reduces the functionality of the appliance. The good news, however, is that, in some cases, you can fix the problem yourself.

The main cause of an Amana dishwasher heating/drying problems (how to fix) is a faulty heating element. The heating element is located inside the dishwasher, either at the top or the bottom of the tub. This element is needed to warm up the water to a temperature capable of sanitizing your dishes.

If the heating element is the problem, replacing it with a new part is the only way to fix the issue. The heating element can typically be removed by disconnecting the part and removing the screws that hold it in place. However, this can vary depending on your model of dishwasher. Refer to your owner’s manual if you’re unsure as to where the heating element is located on your model.

Other potential causes of a heating and drying problem include damaged vents, improper hot water setting, not loading the dishes properly, and not utilizing rinse aid.

Amana Dishwasher Heated Dry Not Working

One of the features that most models of Amana dishwashers have is the heated dry cycle. This helps to ensure your dishes are as dry as possible at the end of the cycle.

If the Amana dishwasher heated dry isn’t working, check to ensure you have the setting selected. Most models have a separate button that you have to press to activate the heated dry. If you don’t press this button, then the dishwasher will dry without this extra setting.

Once you have selected the heated dry setting and it still isn’t working, make sure you are properly loading the dishes in the dishwasher. Incorrect loading will decrease the dishwasher’s ability to dry, even when the heated dry setting is selected. Making sure the dishes are tilted a bit will help improve the drying cycles, as will making sure you don’t overload the dishwasher.

If you are still having issues with the heated dry not working, reach out to Amana customer support. They can get you in contact with a repair technician in your area who can potentially fix the problem.

Amana Dishwasher Not Heating Water

A dishwasher contains a wide array of parts and pieces that it uses to not only clean your dishes, but to sanitize them as well. However, in order for the appliance to get those dishes clean and free of germs, it will need access to heated water. Some assume that the dishwasher itself can heat the water to the correct temperature, but is this really the case?

An Amana dishwasher not heating the water may signal a problem with the water supply and not actually the dishwasher. If the hot water running to your dishwasher is set at a low temperature, it will affect the appliances’ ability to properly dry the dishes.

Experts recommend that the hot water that is running to the dishwasher is set to at least 120-degrees Fahrenheit to ensure the dishwasher’s heating element can warm the water up enough to reach those bacteria and germ-killing temps.

Amana Dishwasher Not Drying

It’s beyond frustrating to open your dishwasher after the drying cycle is complete and be face to face with wet dishes. Not only do you now have to dry the dishes by hand, but you also have to figure out why your Amana dishwasher isn’t drying the dishes properly.

When your Amana dishwasher isn’t drying, the first place to look is the appliance’s vents.  These vents open to allow the stem inside the dishwasher to escape, which improves the appliance’s drying ability. When the vents stop working properly, the dishwasher cannot dry the dishes.

To check for damaged vents, you must first locate said vents. Depending on your model of dishwasher, the vent may be located inside the door at the top left side. You will need to remove the cover protecting the vent and inspect it for damage. Replace damaged vents with new ones to correct the drying problems.

Some models of Amana dishwashers also have a vent fan motor that can cause drying issues. When this fan motor stops working properly, your dishes may not come out as dry as you would like. This part is generally located at the back or side of the dishwasher and will require removing the back or side panel to access the internal components. Always disconnect appliances from their power source before removing any parts.

If you feel comfortable removing the panel to check the vent fan motor, refer to your owner’s manual to find the exact location of the fan. Once you have located it, use your hand to manually move the fan about 360-degrees. If the fan motor is functioning properly, it should move without any problems. If, however, you feel resistance or obstruction, the fan is faulty and will need to be replaced.

Dishwashers are designed to clean and dry your dishes. So, when an Amana dishwasher heating element is not working, it interferes with the appliance’s ability to dry the things inside the dishwasher.

An Amana dishwasher with a heating element that won’t work will require replacing the malfunctioning part. The heating element is vital for cleaning and sanitizing the dishes, and without it, the dishwasher cannot work as intended.

Thankfully, replacing the heating element isn’t as difficult as it sounds and typically only involves disconnecting the element and removing the screws that secure it in place. Visit the Amana Parts website to locate and purchase the correct heating element for your dishwasher model.

Before you begin working on the dishwasher, however, make sure it is either unplugged from the power outlet or flip the breaker that the dishwasher is connected to off. This is a safety measure that will help prevent you and the dishwasher from harm.

How To Test Amana Dishwasher Heating

Testing the dishwasher heating element is a good idea before you even start working on the appliance. It will help save you time, since you will know if the heating problem is really with the heating element or something else. It can also help ensure that you have the problem fixed once you have replaced the part.

To test an Amana dishwasher heating element, you will need a multimeter. This nifty tool measures voltage and electric current. It can tell you where or not a part is receiving electric current or voltage to it. Use the multimeter to determine whether or not the heating element is faulty.

To use the multimeter, you must first turn off the power to the dishwasher either by unplugging the appliance from its power supply or turning off the circuit breaker that it is connected to. Locate the heating element and, following the instructions for your brand and type of multimeter, test the part. If the heating element shows it has continuity, then the part is still in working order. If, however, it shows there is no continuity, the heating element will need to be replaced.
