A dryer will shut off if the thermal sensors detect high internal temperatures. The vibration of the internal parts moving when you operate the dryer, including the belt and drum, generates heat. As the dryer ages, the heat will become more pronounced, resulting in the power disconnecting for safety reasons.
A broken drive belt will stop the dryer drum from spinning. It is the most common reason a gas dryer is no longer tumbling. The belt wraps around the drum, and as the belt rotates, it causes the drum to spin. The machine may work when the drive belt breaks, but the drum does not tumble.
The typical reason why a dryer is beeping or buzzing is that you haven’t pressed the start button. Modern dryers require that you press the start button once the door is closed because they will not start automatically. They will recognize that the load is full and the beeping is there to remind you to do so.
If your Hotpoint dryer is no longer working, you may be able to fix the problem by resetting it. Disconnect the dryer from power by unplugging or turning off the circuit breakers. Wait five minutes and reestablish power. Give the dryer enough time to go through the startup sequence and then test it again.
