Denon Soundbar Not Working (How To Fix/Reset)

One of the ways to improve your enjoyment of your audiovisual system is to add a soundbar. Denon is a popular brand but what can you do if your Denon soundbar is not working?

The easiest way to fix a Denon soundbar is to reset it. After turning on the soundbar by pressing the power button, hold the connect and Bluetooth buttons for five seconds simultaneously. This will cause the lights to blink and your soundbar will be reset.

If you call customer support, the first thing that they will do when your Denon soundbar is not working is ask you to reset the soundbar. If you follow the instructions above, you will have already handled that easy fix.

Unfortunately, things aren’t always as easy as we would like. There are going to be times when it may be necessary to work a little more to get things corrected.

Denon Soundbar Not Working (How To Fix/Reset)

In this case, you may need to reset the firmware to default. Doing so is similar to the benefits of a reset but it is more thorough.

Take the following steps to do a firmware reset on your Denon soundbar:

Step 1: Unplug – The first step in the process is to pull the plug from the receptacle. This will completely disconnect your Denon soundbar from the power. If you don’t have access to the receptacle, you can always turn off the breaker but you will need some help for the second step.

Step 2: Reestablish Power – This step in the process is relatively easy because you will either be plugging the Denon soundbar into the receptacle or you will be flipping on the circuit breaker.

The real key to getting this to work is to hold down the Bluetooth button while you are reconnecting the soundbar. If you are there, you can do this on your own but if you are working in the breaker box, you will have to have somebody hold down the Bluetooth button for you.

Step 3: Flashing LED – The status LED button will begin to blink amber after a few seconds. Once this happens, you should release the Bluetooth button.

Step 4: Wait – All that is left to do is wait for the system to update. It will go through a recovery process that can take a considerable amount of time since it is working with the firmware. Be sure to leave the power on and the soundbar plugged in.

If you do a firmware update, you are going to lose all of the settings that you may have established before doing it. This can be a problem for some people, as they may have to reestablish the settings to get things back up and running as they would like.

In many cases, either a soft reset or a firmware reset is going to fix the problem. There may be other times, however, when specific issues can cause difficulties. Here are some other general suggestions that may help.

Power Problems – If there are any problems with the power running to the Denon soundbar, it is not going to work properly. This can generally be considered when there are no lights and none of the buttons are responding.

Check for the following power problems that may be an issue.

Receptacles – Although receptacles do not generally have too much difficulty, there can be times when they are not working any longer. Some receptacles may also be switched and if the switch gets turned off, no power will flow through them.

You can test the receptacle by plugging in another appliance, such as a lamp.

Power Cord – Visually inspect the power cord for any damage, including tears, cuts, and burning. Be sure to check out the plug, because it is one of the areas that can often experience problems.

Breaker – It is not out of the question for a breaker to trip. This is especially true on your A/V equipment because you may have many different items plugged into the same circuit and if you add something, it can take it over the limit.

Open the breaker box and look for one of the breakers that may be out of line. If you see it, you can turn it off and back on again to reset the breaker. If the breaker continues to trip, you may have to contact an electrician.

Connecting Cables – Another weak point that we will discuss are the cables. Some cables are using older technology and they may not be able to carry enough signal. Try a different cable or perhaps a different input.

Try Another Device – If all else fails, try plugging the Denon soundbar into another TV or device. If it works on the other device, then it is likely that the problem exists between the soundbar and your TV.

Let’s consider some of the specific issues that can occur with the Denon soundbar. The methods of correcting those problems are sometimes different.

Denon Soundbar Not Connecting To TV

Are you having a problem getting your Denon soundbar to connect to your TV? There may be a relatively simple solution.

One reason why a Denon soundbar may not connect to your TV is that it does not support HDMI eARC. Make sure that you are using the proper cable and that you are connecting through the eARC port on the TV. Otherwise, you may need to use a different cable for connecting.

ARC is a type of technology that has been around for quite some time. It is not likely that most TVs are equipped with this alone but rather, they have the newer eARC technology.

This technology was put in place to reduce the amount of cable clutter that was commonly seen. It allowed for connecting devices, including soundbars to the TV with fewer cables.

As you will see in this article, ARC can cause some problems in some instances from not connecting to the TV to hearing a popping sound. It’s a great technology but it doesn’t always work as it should, depending on the cable.

The best thing you can do is to upgrade your HDMI cable to the latest technology. Never buy cheap cables or you could end up with some type of problem sooner or later.

Denon Soundbar Not Turning On

Are you having difficulty getting your Denon soundbar to turn on? This is a problem that may have a relatively simple solution.

The most common reason why a Denon soundbar doesn’t turn on is that the power is not on. Make sure that the soundbar is connected to the power outlet and breaker has not tripped.

Many different factors can be considered in this regard. In some cases, it may have to do with Bluetooth and not with the power itself.

Some Denon soundbars are turned on through a Bluetooth connection. You may need to turn the Bluetooth on standby for this to work. Otherwise, try cycling the Bluetooth to get it to work.

There are so many different connections between the incoming power and the soundbar and each of them needs to be checked in turn. Try checking the following to see if you can get the power to come on.

Circuit Breaker – Make sure the circuit breaker has not tripped. Reset the breaker if it has tripped.

Receptacle – Test the receptacle by plugging in another device, such as a lamp.

Multi-Port Plug – Try plugging the Denon soundbar directly into the receptacle rather than plugging it into a power strip. Those power strips are known to fail.

Power Cable – Inspect the power cable for any damage. If you have another power cable available, see if it works better.

Soundbar – Finally, the soundbar may just need to be repaired or replaced. If the power isn’t turning on and it has power to the unit, it could be a problem with the soundbar itself.

Denon Soundbar Remote Not Working

We appreciate the fact that we can control our Denon soundbar through remote control. What can you do if the remote is no longer working?

The batteries are often to blame when a Denon soundbar remote is no longer working. Check the batteries to see if they need replacing and make sure they have not been flipped around in the wrong direction.

There is also a limited ability for the soundbar to receive instructions from the remote control. If you are too far away from the soundbar or if something is blocking the path, it may not work.

Try using the remote control close to the soundbar and point the remote directly at the receiving window. If that doesn’t work, it is likely a problem with the batteries.

Denon Soundbar Bluetooth Not Working

Bluetooth technology allows us to do many things with our Denon soundbar and other devices. What can you do if the Bluetooth is no longer working?

The easiest way to fix a problem with a Bluetooth device is to turn it off and back on again. More than likely, the Bluetooth will shake hands with the device fresh when you restart things and you will find that it works well. Otherwise, you can repair the device.

Many different things can go wrong with Bluetooth. It’s an excellent type of technology but it is not without its faults.

One of the limitations of Bluetooth that is often overlooked is the distance that you can have from one device to another. Generally speaking, a Bluetooth range is only about 30 feet.

It should be noted that 30 feet is the maximum distance you can be from one item to another. If you are having problems with Bluetooth and your device is more than 30 feet from your Denon soundbar, it’s a likely problem to try.

Then again, if you have some obstacles in between you and the Denon soundbar, it’s not going to even reach 30 feet at a maximum. It will cut down the communication range significantly, so you need to make sure that there is nothing between you and your soundbar.

The easiest way to check Bluetooth is to go as close as possible to the soundbar with your device using Bluetooth. Restart the soundbar and your device if it does not work and see if you can get them to recognize each other.

If you do get a signal at close range, then it is likely that you are either going too far from the soundbar or there is something in the way.

One other possibility is that there is an electromagnetic device in the area that is also causing the limited range. You can always check this by moving the Bluetooth soundbar to a different area of the home and trying the device again.

Denon Soundbar No Sound

We use our Denon soundbar because we enjoy the increased sound that is available. What can you do if it is not producing any sound?

If your Denon soundbar is no longer giving off any sound, it may be a problem with the connections. Check every connection, including the power connection and the cables running from the soundbar to the TV.

Many different issues can happen with the connections. If you made a change recently and the sound suddenly stops working, you may want to consider trying that first.

For example, we may have replaced the HDMI cable but did you use one that was of the latest technology? Is the cable in good shape and is it fully plugged into every port? These are things that you need to check when your Denon soundbar is not working any longer.

Did the power recently go off in your home? This can be another reason why the soundbar is no longer giving off any sound. At times, the soundbar may not connect properly after the power has cycled. It could also have turned the volume down or muted it.

While you’re at it, you might want to try adjusting the volume on the soundbar directly. Don’t try to use the remote control in this instance, use the volume up button on the soundbar. Be careful because the sound may come out all at once.

Finally, look for the mute button and make sure that it isn’t engaged. If you do have the mute on, simply turn it off and the sound should start flowing again.

Denon Soundbar Popping Noise

Black soundbar below the flatscreen tv

One of the more frustrating problems we may experience with a Denon soundbar is hearing popping noises. What can you do if this happens with your soundbar?

If you have a popping sound on your Denon soundbar, try turning off the eARC settings. You can find the settings on the TV or you may have to use the settings in your soundbar. Use regular ARC and the popping noise should stop.

If you are using your soundbar to power a remote device, such as a phone or tablet, you might try plugging them directly into each other using a USB cable. This will often stop the problem from happening.

There is one other possibility that can get things working again. It seems as if any time there is some dead space in the music, the eARC is going to start the popping noise. It’s a problem that is relatively common with soundbars.

One option is to go to your TV settings and select the HDMI audio mode. You might find that you can even have the ARC enabled, but it will limit how many channels of audio are going to the soundbar and stop the popping sound from occurring.

This may be fixed at some point in the future if Denon decides to do a firmware update. Make sure that you keep up with any updates to correct this problem whenever possible.

Denon Soundbar Flashing Yellow

Is your Denon soundbar flashing yellow? This is not something to be concerned about.

A yellow flashing light on a Denon soundbar typically means that the soundbar is updating. Your soundbar updates on an occasional basis to keep up with the latest firmware updates. It is not a problem, just make sure that you keep the power on during the time that the light is flashing.

There is another reason why you may have a flashing yellow light on your Denon soundbar, but you are usually involved directly with it.

Both a soft reset and a factory restore hard reset will cause the yellow lights to blink while it is ongoing. This is not generally a problem, it’s just something that lets you know you are accomplishing something while you are trying.

Denon Soundbar Flashing Red

Do you have a red flashing light on your Denon soundbar? Here’s what it might mean.

If you have a red flashing light on a Denon soundbar it means that an error has occurred. This could either be a hardware error or a firmware error.

If the blinking light is persistent, you should try resetting the soundbar by pressing and holding the Bluetooth and connect buttons at the same time for five seconds. The light will change to a blinking amber light as the reset takes place.

When you try a reset and the soundbar is still experiencing the flashing red light, try unplugging it for a few minutes. Otherwise, you may need to contact customer support to update the firmware.
