How To Reset Kenmore Dishwasher

Dishwashers are time machines. They give us back so much time in our day. Instead of spending countless hours each week washing and drying dishes by hand, the dishwasher efficiently washes, sanitizes, and dries our dishes. It’s a different story when the dishwasher doesn’t work though.

You can reset a Kenmore dishwasher by pressing the ‘High Temp’ and ‘Heated Dry’ buttons in succession, 2 times. The control panel lights will all be illuminated. Close and latch the dishwasher door so the dishwasher can run a test cycle to initiate the reset.

It can be a stressful day when the dishwasher does not work. Most issues with a dishwasher can be resolved by resetting the dishwasher. Thankfully, Kenmore dishwashers are easy to reset. This article will walk you through the steps in resetting your Kenmore dishwasher.

Is There A Reset Button On Kenmore Dishwasher

Adjusting the dishwasher

Depending on the model of Kenmore dishwasher you have, you have likely noticed there is either a full row of buttons on the control panel or only three to choose from. If you are wanting to reset your dishwasher you are probably wondering where the reset button is.

Generally speaking, there is no stand-alone reset button on a Kenmore dishwasher. However, the dishwasher can be reset by pressing certain command buttons in a particular sequence. This sequence will initiate the self-diagnostic mode which will reset the dishwasher.

Resetting the dishwasher may seem like an odd thing to do but it is an important step in prolonging the life of your dishwasher. Just as resetting your smartphone or computer helps to clear any glitches in performance, resetting your dishwasher does the same thing.

How To Do A Factory Reset On Kenmore Dishwasher

Hearing the words ‘factory reset’ makes some people nervous. Oftentimes it conjures up memories of wiping a cell phone clean and losing all saved information and photos. Resetting your Kenmore dishwasher is not that scary.

To do a factory reset on a Kenmore dishwasher, begin by first unplugging the dishwasher from the wall outlet or turning off the circuit breaker supplying power to the dishwasher. Leave the dishwasher disconnected for 5 minutes. When power is restored, press any three buttons in a row, three times.

If turning off circuit breakers or crawling under the sink to unplug the dishwasher is not your thing, there are four other ways you can reset the Kenmore dishwasher: a ‘Heated Dry’ reset, the ‘Select Cycle’ reset, the ‘Pots and Pans’ reset, and the ‘Outer Button’ reset.

These sequences will not perform a hard reset, but they will reset the dishwasher so it works correctly again.

Heated Dry Reset

Step 1: Press the ‘Heated Dry’ button.

Step 2: Press the ‘Normal Wash’ button.

Step 3: Press the ‘Heated Dry’ button again.

Step 4: Press the ‘Normal Wash’ button again.

Step 5: Close and latch the door. The dishwasher will run a 12-minute test cycle to complete the reset.

Select Cycle Reset

Step 1: Press the ‘Select Cycle’ button.

Step 2: Press the ‘Options’ button.

Step 3: Press the ‘Heated Dry’ button.

Step 4: Repeat the steps two more times.

Step 5: After the third time, the control panel will illuminate. Close and latch the door.

Step 6: Press the ‘Cancel/Drain’ button to begin a short test wash cycle to complete the reset.

Pots and Pans Reset

Step 1: Press the ‘Pots/Pans’ button.

Step 2: Press the ‘Normal Wash’ button.

Step 3: Repeat the steps one more time.

Step 4: Once the control panel lights are illuminated, close and latch the dishwasher door.

Step 5: Allow the dishwasher to run a full wash cycle to complete the reset.

Outer Button Reset

This option is for Kenmore dishwasher models that do not have a Heated Dry button and only have three buttons on the display panel.

Step 1: Press the two outer buttons at the same time and hold for 3 seconds.

Step 2: Close and latch the dishwasher door.

Step 3: Allow the dishwasher to run a test wash cycle to complete the reset.

DID YOU KNOW:

A non-working sprayer in a Kenmore dishwasher can often be attributed to clogged spray arm holes. Food particles, minerals, and other debris can lodge in the spray holes, preventing water from being ejected with force. To resolve this, remove the spray arm and clean out the holes using a piece of wire or a toothpick, then rinse the arm under water before reinstalling.

Blinking lights on the control panel are only a welcomed site when the dishwasher has run successfully and now all your dishes are clean and ready to be used. If the lights are blinking continuously, this means there is something wrong with the control panel and the dishwasher needs to be reset.

To rest the Kenmore dishwasher control panel/board/computer, press and hold the ‘Heated Dry’ button for 4 seconds. Next, press the ‘Heated Dry’ and ‘Normal Wash’ buttons in succession two times. Once the dishwasher has run a self-diagnostic test, press the ‘Cancel/Drain’ button.

After resetting the control panel/board/computer, the display panel will illuminate and will now respond to new commands. If the control is still unresponsive, the control panel itself is locked and will need to be reset.

How To Reset Kenmore Dishwasher Control Lock

When the dishwasher is running, it will engage the Lock Mode setting as a safety feature. The control panel will flash to indicate the control panel is locked. If this feature is malfunctioning and the panel remains locked, resetting the control panel will unlock it.

The Kenmore dishwasher control lock can be reset by either unplugging the dishwasher from the wall outlet or switching off the circuit breaker supplying power to the outlet. Leave the dishwasher without power for at least 5 minutes. You can also press and hold the ‘Heated Dry’ button for 4 seconds.

If a control key is pressed while the dishwasher is running, this will cause the Lock mode to become engaged. The control panel may start blinking to indicate it is now locked. This can be remedied by turning off the control lock mode or by resetting the control panel.

Turn Off Control Lock

To turn off the control lock, close and latch the dishwasher door. Press the ‘Heat Dry’ button for 4 seconds. Wait for the ‘Lock On’ status light to flash. When the light turns off, the control lock feature has been turned off. Press the ‘Normal Wash’ button to run a test cycle.

Reset Control Panel

To reset the control panel, remove power from the dishwasher. Wait 5 minutes and then restore power. Press the ‘Normal Wash’ button to see if the dishwasher will function normally again.

When the dishwasher’s lock mode is engaged, any button you push will flash four times. If the button continues flashing, however, this means the button is stuck and the control panel will remain in lock mode until this button is released. The steps outlined above will resolve this issue.

What Are The Different Kenmore Dishwasher Reset Codes

Adjusting the dishwasher

Blinking lights followed by a pause and then more blinking is how your Kenmore dishwasher notifies you of error codes. There are over 20 different diagnostic codes programmed within the dishwasher that will alert you to anything from a faulty door switch to insufficient electrical power.

There are two Kenmore dishwasher codes that can be resolved by resetting the dishwasher. Error code 1-1, or F1E1, means there is a stuck relay. Error code 1-2, or F1E2, means there is a problem with the control board’s memory. Resetting the dishwasher will clear these two codes.

Pushing any three cycle buttons in a sequence will clear these diagnostic codes. If the codes remain, performing a hard reset will remove the codes. If the codes persist, the issue may be serious and will require the services of a certified Kenmore technician to diagnose the issue further.

How To Do A Kenmore Dishwasher No Power Reset

Putting plates in dishwasher

There could be several reasons why your Kenmore dishwasher has no power. If there was a recent power surge, this could cause the dishwasher to become overloaded and it will shut off. T

Make sure the dishwasher’s power cord is securely plugged into the wall outlet and that the outlet is receiving power. Plug another item into the same outlet to see if the outlet is receiving power.

A safety feature on Kenmore dishwashers is the child lock. If the right sequence of buttons gets pressed, the Child Lock feature will be engaged and the dishwasher will become unresponsive. You can turn this feature off by unplugging the dishwasher for 5 minutes.

Loose wires in the junction box can also cause the dishwasher to lose power. The junction box is located behind the toe plate on the bottom front of the dishwasher. Movement of the dishwasher during a heavy wash cycle can cause these wires to become loose over time.

A blown thermal fuse could also be the culprit. The thermal fuse is located inside the dishwasher’s inner door panel and will have a black and white wire attached to it. Consult your Kenmore User’s Manual to identify the correct replacement fuse.

You can reset a Kenmore dishwasher that has no power by restoring power to the control wire harness. The control wire harness supplies power to the electrical components of the dishwasher. A loose or disconnected wire will prevent the control panel from having power.
