How to Reset Toshiba Laptop

As with all technology, when it comes to your Toshiba Laptop, there are many different situations where you may need to run some sort of reset. When either your laptop itself is not working properly, or if you need to change system settings, running a reset can fix the issue. 

The most basic way to restart your Toshiba Laptop is to press and hold the power button. You want to hold it for about ten seconds and you should see the screen go black. You can then press the power button again to restart your Toshiba Laptop. Note, that this method can put you at risk of losing any documents you were working on.

How to Reset Toshiba Laptop to Factory Settings

There are several reasons why a factory reset is a right route to take when resetting your Toshiba Laptop. Your Toshiba Laptop may have been exposed to a virus or had a software malfunction, or you may want to ensure that none of your files are still on it if you are selling your laptop. Either way, running a factory reset is an easy process. It is important to note that if you do this, your laptop returns to the settings that you had when you first purchased it, and all of your files will be erased.

To reset your Toshiba Laptop to factory settings is a simple process that should only take a few moments. You want to press and hold your zero key. Do not release this key, and simultaneously press your power button and release it. Continue to hold the zero key until the system reboots.

Once the system reboots, you will hear a beeping noise and the screen will light up and begin to load. Be patient, as this can take a couple of minutes. Once your laptop reboots you will see a warning screen.

This warning screen is a reminder that if you complete this reset, all of your files will be lost and your computer will be restored to the factory setting that you had when you first purchased your Toshiba Laptop.

Click the ‘yes’ button, this will bring you to the next screen where you are prompted to select the process that you want to ‘out of the box state’. Click next and click next again when you are met with the ‘recovery of the default software screen’.

However, if your battery is not working properly, it takes away the main convenience of having a laptop. If you get an alert that your battery is not charging on your Toshiba Laptop, or if it automatically turns off when you remove the power cable, it is time to run a battery reset.

If you want to reset your Toshiba Laptop battery, first make sure that your laptop has been turned off and unplugged from its power cord. Next, you want to look at the bottom of your Toshiba Laptop. There should be a small reset hole. You can use a paperclip to press this button. After pressing the reset button, you want to press and hold your laptop’s power button for at least 20 seconds.

How to Reset Toshiba Laptop Password

There are a few reasons why you would want to reset the password to your Toshiba Laptop. You may be doing it for security measures, or have forgotten your password altogether. The good news is, if you’ve forgotten or want to change your password there are a few steps you can take without seeking the help of a professional.

There are a few ways to reset your Toshiba Laptop password. The easiest method is to go into your settings folder and locate the ‘Account Information’ section’. If you are using this method, you will need to know your previous password. However, when you are locked out of your Microsoft account. This account is tied to your email. 

You can reset your password through the Microsoft website, under the ‘Account’ section. This will use your two-factor identification to reset your overall email password for your Microsoft account. You will then be able to log into your account after changing the password.

If you do not have your login tied to a Microsoft account, you can still change your password through another profile on your Toshiba Laptop. If you log in to another administrative account on your laptop, you will have the authority to change the password for the forgotten account through the settings menu.

If these options don’t work, you can always perform a factory reset. This will revert your Toshiba Laptop to the original settings that it came with when you first purchased it. It’s important to note that this will not only reset your username and password but also erase all files and applications that you have on your Toshiba Laptop.

How to Reset Toshiba Laptop BIOS

In the case that you need to restart your Toshiba Laptop BIOS, this issue is related to your CMOS battery. You will notice this issue when your laptop is not turned on. When this happens, you want to first check all power options. Make sure that your Toshiba Laptop is plugged into a working power outlet. Also, ensure that there is no damage to the power cord. If both of these are working properly, you need to access the internal battery of your laptop.

To reset your Toshiba Laptop BIOS you will need to flip your laptop over. Remove all of the screws that line your laptop and remove both the battery and the disk drive. Depending on your laptop, there may just be a center panel that you can unscrew that will give you access to the CMOS battery. If that is the case, those are the only screws you will need to remove.

Your CMOS battery is a circular battery. What you want to do is to remove the battery and leave it removed for at least 20 minutes. This is to allow the power to completely drain. You may also see that your CMOS battery is plugged in. If this is the case, all you need to do is to unplug the CMOS battery and leave it unplugged for 20 minutes.

With both methods, you need to be careful as the hardware is delicate and easily breakable. 

How to Reset Toshiba Laptop Administrator Password

Resetting passwords can be essential for a couple of situations. You may be removing an account, have had a security breach, or simply want to update your password. Your administrator password is the main one that controls your primary, or primary, accounts. These accounts are the ones that are authorized to make changes to the settings of your laptop. 

If you want to reset your Toshiba Laptop administrator password, the easiest method is to log into your administrator account. From there, you will not only be able to reset the password of the account you are on but other passwords as well. Click the start button and once the search section comes up enter “lusrmgr.msc”. 

This will bring up the option to see the user information of any accounts on your Toshiba Laptop. Locate which username that you would like to change the password for and right-click. Once you do that, you will see an option labeled ‘Set-Password’. You can then create a new password.

If you have lost your administrative password, you will need to either reset your password through your Microsoft email account or perform a factory reset on your Toshiba Laptop. However, keep in mind, that if you do a factory reset you will lose all your current files, applications, and settings.

How to Reset Toshiba Laptop Network Settings

When it comes to resetting your network settings on your Toshiba Laptop, this is usually done when you are facing issues with your internet or WiFi connection/ A network setting reset is an option that is simpler than running a factory reset. You also get to retain your files and current settings.

To reset the Toshiba Laptop’s network settings, first, locate your start menu. You then want to find the area that is marked ‘Network & Internet. From there, select ‘Advanced. Network Settings’. Once in that menu, you will see an area to do a network reset. 

When prompted, select yes to run the reset. Afterward, it is a good idea to reset your Toshiba Laptop.

How to Reset WiFi Settings on Toshiba Laptop

If your Toshiba Laptops are in an area where the WiFi signal is limited, you typically will not be able to access your network. This can go to your home as well. Depending on where your WiFi router is, there may be instructions preventing your Toshiba Laptop from getting WiFi signals. However, if there are no obstructions, you may need to reset your Toshiba Laptop WiFi settings.

If your WiFi settings need to be reset on your Toshiba Laptop, press and hold the Windows and the X key to open the device manager menu. From there you want to select the section marked ‘Network Adaptors’. You want to find the WiFi network that you are on and select to uninstall it.

There will then be a section at the top that is labeled ‘Scan for Network Hardware Changes’. Once you click this option, your WiFi network should be automatically detected. Make sure that your Toshiba Laptop is connected to the right WiFi network.

Once doing so, restart your laptop and then check to see if the WiFi is working. If your WiFi still isn’t working, you need to perform an update. To do this you need to hit the Windows and the x key again. When you locate your correct WiFi network, you want to right-click and select ‘properties’. 

Once you do this a separate window will open with several different tabs. You want the tab that is labeled ‘Drive’ and from there select ‘Update Driver.

You may notice issues with the mouse on your Toshiba Laptop. If your mouse is not responding and is properly connected, you need to look at your network’s settings. Resetting your settings for your external devices can be a solution to many issues. 

To reset your Toshiba Laptop mouse, press and hold Ctrl+F5. After doing this, you will be prompted by a menu that will allow you to detect your mouse. You can also do this through the settings menu. If you select to forget the device, reinstating it will usually right the issue.

If you reset your mouse on your Toshiba Laptop and continue to experience issues, you should get a replacement mouse.

How to Reset Touchpad on Toshiba Laptop

You may notice that the touchpad on your Toshiba Laptop has ceased to work. If this is the case, you will not be able to use the touchpad at all, or the touchpad will act erratically when you attempt to use it. 

If your touchpad still does not work, go to support.toshiba.com/drivers. You will then be able to type your laptop’s serial number in. Once you’ve entered all the information about your Toshiba Laptop you should be able to download the correct touchpad/mouse file. After this, restart your Toshiba Laptop.

If all else fails, when trying to reset your Toshiba Laptop touchpad/mouse you can turn your laptop off. Press and hold the power button for at least 30 seconds. Once it powers on, you should be able to use the touchpad/mouse.

How to Reset Toshiba Laptop CMOS

There are some instances where your Toshiba Laptop needs to have a system reset. When you reset different levels of your laptop’s settings, you can override many issues. A CMOS reset is used when you have reset your BIOS password. 

To reset a Toshiba Laptop CMOS first, click the start button. From there you want to find the section that is marked ‘All Programs’, “Toshiba”, ‘Utilities’, and finally HWSetup”. This will allow you to access the laptop’s factory settings. 

The settings that you are looking for are the BOS settings. You want to select these and restore them to their default settings.

There are two main ways to restart your Toshiba Laptop. The first being to press and hold the power button for at least ten seconds, you will then see that your screen will go black. Press the power button again to restart your laptop. If you need to run a factory reset press and hold your zero key while pressing the power button. Release the power button, but continue holding the zero key until you see a display on the screen.
