JBL Speaker Keeps/Not Turning Off/On

JBL makes nice speakers that offer a lot of value for the price. Generally, they function fine and rarely have issues, but like with any tech product, there will be times where hardware and software issues arise. If your speaker isn’t turning off, turning on by itself, or turning off automatically, what do you do?

JBL speakers may not turn off due to a software bug or hardware problem. To fix this issue, you can try resetting the device. The reset process varies depending on the model of the speaker, but it usually involves holding down a combination of buttons.

There could be other reasons why your JBL speaker won’t turn off. For example, if the speaker is in lock mode, it may not turn off. To fix this issue, you can try unlocking the speaker or exiting the lock mode.

Another reason could be that the power button is damaged. In this case, you can try fixing the power button or sending the speaker for repair.

If none of these solutions work, you can try other fixes such as draining the battery or upgrading the firmware version. If the problem persists, it may be due to a hardware error and you may need to contact JBL support or send the device for repair.

JBL Speaker Won’t Turn On: Causes/How to Fix

If you are having the opposite of the above problem and your JBL speaker isn’t turning on. Ensure that the device has a charge. If you can plug it in and power it on, then the issue was likely that the battery simply ran out. It’s easy to make this mistake since many Bluetooth speakers have decently long battery lives, and it isn’t uncommon to forget to charge them.

  • Your speaker might also not be charging due to a faulty cable or a broken charging port resulting in the battery running out unexpectedly. Try different charging cables to see if this resolves your issue.
  • Other reasons why your JBL speaker isn’t turning on can also come down to a faulty battery or a faulty circuit board. Some JBL models make it easy for the user to service the battery, while others can be tricky. If you need a new battery, you should be able to find one online for your particular model – just ensure that you don’t damage your device in the replacement process.

If you have left your speaker idle for at least ten minutes with nothing connected to it, JBL speakers will turn themselves off to conserve power. This is a perfectly normal feature. It also doesn’t indicate a problem with the device itself.

If you find that your JBL speaker keeps turning off by itself, check to see if the battery has a charge. It’s possible that either the charging cable or charging port has been damaged, and so it isn’t receiving any power when plugged in.

Try different cables to see if that resolves the issue. If your speaker is an older model, it’s an even bigger possibility that the issue is with the charging cable since Micro USB connectors are known for being very flimsy.

It’s also also possible that the speaker thinks its battery is lower than it is; in this case, you can factory reset the speaker to reset its charging logic or simply let the battery drain. Here is how you can reset each JBL speaker model:

JBL Charge: While the device is powered on, hold the “Volume Up” and the “Bluetooth” buttons at the same time until you see the light ring illuminates

JBL Flip: While the device is powered on, hold the “Volume Up” and the “Play” buttons down at the same time until the device powers off.

JBL Link: While the device is powered on, hold down the “Mute” for approximately 15 seconds until the device powers off.

JBL Go: While the device is powered on, hold the “Volume Down” and “Bluetooth” buttons for 5 seconds until the device powers off.

JBL Xtreme: While the device is powered on, hold down the “Volume Up” and “Play” buttons for approximately 5 seconds until the device powers off.

JBL Clip: While the device is powered on, hold down the “Play/Pause” and “Power” buttons for approximately 30 seconds until the device powers off.

If your JBL speaker keeps turning on and off by itself, then that is certainly not normal. JBL speakers don’t have a feature where they automatically turn on, so this shouldn’t be happening. The possible explanation for this would be that the power button is being activated by dust underneath it or the circuit board is faulty.

We recommend contacting JBL if you aren’t comfortable with doing a teardown to remove any potential debris. Their standard warranty covers faulty units, and you should be able to get a fix/replacement.

As for the speaker turning off automatically, JBL has a feature where the speaker will turn off if nothing is connected to it for 10 minutes. This helps preserve power, and so it’s nothing to worry about. But if it’s shutting off during music playback, then the issue could be that the battery is on low power due to the charging cable or charging port not supplying power to the device.
