MacBook Not Turning On

If you then unplug your MacBook and attempt to turn it on and nothing happens, it is most likely a battery issue.

If you replace the battery and can turn on your MacBook while it is plugged in, it is a good idea to run updates on your system, as that could affect your MacBook’s startup.

If you are having issues powering up your MacBook, where you still hear the classic powering up sound, but are met with a blank screen. This is often an indicator of a more serious issue. 

If your MacBook is properly connected and makes noise as it powers up, but the screen remains black, it is most likely a hard drive issue. In this instance, it can be near impossible to fix yourself as you need the correct software to run diagnostics and pinpoint the problem.

MacBook Not Turning On Displaying Black Screen

If your MacBook is turned on, but you are met with a black screen, there can be a few causes behind this. You typically see this when you are attempting to power up a MacBook Pro or a Mac Mini. If you have an external display, the problem could lie in either the device itself or the cables that connect it. 

If the problem with your MacBook turning on lies in the display, you will experience a black screen. This can be because of either the display monitor itself or the connection cord.

If you have an external display check to make sure that all of the cables are attached to the correct ports in both your hard drive and your monitor. If all of the cables are properly secured, there might be an issue with the cable itself. The easiest way to check this is to remove any external accessories and restart your MacBook again. 

If you have two monitors, unplug them both and then reconnect them both. Make sure that neither has any exterior connected accessories. 

MacBook Not Turning On After Update

When it comes to running a software update, there is always a chance that your MacBook will encounter issues. The first step that you should take is to run a force restart on your MacBook. 

If your MacBook is not turned on after an update, it might just need a minute. Press and hold the power button for at least 10 seconds before releasing it. If your MacBook is actually on, this will turn it off and allow you to restart.

If you have recently run an overall system update, but have not updated your Mac Books accessories, this could cause an issue with your MacBook turning on. If you have recently run a software update, disconnect any external accessories. These can include anything that is plugged into USB ports such as keyboards, cameras, external hard drives, cameras, or speakers. Disconnect all of these and attempt to start your MacBook again.

When it comes to external devices, improperly installing external hard drives or storage systems can negatively affect your MacBook. Unplug the external hard drive and restart your MacBook. Once it has turned on, make sure that your external hard drive or storage device has been properly installed. If it is not, remove and reinstall the device.

If your MacBook is not restarting after your battery has drained, first check your power cords. One of the most common problems that can cause your MacBook not to turn on is if your power cable has been damaged.
