Miele Vacuum Not Working

Miele Vacuums are a well-known luxury vacuum cleaner made in Germany that usually does not cause many problems. If problems do develop, it usually involves difficulty turning on the vacuum for some reason. Read on to learn what troubleshooting steps to take and what to do if your Miele Vacuum is not working.

If your Miele Vacuum is not working, first check the power cord to make sure it has not been damaged. Take out the vacuum filter and either clean it or replace it. If the filter is not the problem, see if the dust bin is full. If it is full, clean it out or simply replace the dust bin bag.

If this has not solved the problem, go ahead, and check the cord reel, which is the unit on which the cord is wrapped around when it is withdrawn back into the vacuum.

Since the power connections between the power cord and the entire Miele vacuum are contained within the cord reel, any problems with it can affect the electrical connections to the entire vacuum.

You will see that the cord reel is positioned upon the vacuum spindle so that it can rotate without any hindrances. If the cord reel is beginning to get worn, it will develop too much laxity, which will then allow it to fluctuate from side to side, which in turn leads to a separation of the electrical connectors that connect the cord reel to the other parts of the vacuum.

Once the electrical connectors have become separated, this will block the normal flow of electrical power flowing through the entire vacuum.

This will usually cause the electrical power of the vacuum to cut in and out sporadically, which will in turn cause the vacuum to turn on and off at random times throughout the vacuuming cycle.

To solve this problem, you can either replace the entire cord reel with a new cord wheel unit or try to repair it.

To access the cord reel, use a Phillips Screwdriver and remove the vacuum cleaner hose from the rest of the vacuum. Then, open the vacuum and take out the vacuum cleaner bag along with the exhaust filter.

Now, open and remove the lid of the vacuum cleaner by carefully lifting the attachment arms from the areas where they are attached.

Then, take out the Speed Control Box, which can be accomplished by unscrewing the attaching screw and then lifting off the 2 clips which are readily accessible.

Once you remove the Speed Control Box, unscrew the attachment screws, and move the plastic vacuum cleaner body off from its base to obtain access to the Vacuum Cleaner Body and to the Cord Reel.

At this point, be sure to disconnect any wires that are attached to the cord reel and take the cord reel out and replace it with a new cord reel unit.

As an alternative method, you can also try to use a spacer on the spindle which will then act to press the electrical connecters together to reinstitute the electrical connection in the vacuum.

Miele Vacuum not Spinning

Miele Vacuums commonly encounter problems with the roller brush not spinning normally. This problem is usually from the accumulation of dust and hair tangles on the roller brush.

If your Miele Vacuum is not working and your Miele Vacuum is not spinning, take the brush rollers out and then be sure to do your best to cut out any hair that has become tangled within it.

In addition, if this does not solve the problem, check the belt that moves the rollers to see if it has become torn or damaged.

Go ahead and evaluate the condition of the brush head. Feel the bristles of the brush to make sure that they have not softened excessively and indeed remain stiff and solid.  If the bristles feel soft and listless, then they have probably worn out and will need to be replaced.

Another area to check out to try to resolve this problem is the continuity of the Drive Belt. The drive belt is usually either a cogged belt or a ribbed belt.

To access the drive belt, take off the cover and you should be able to simply remove the brush from the vacuum head.

Now, you will be able to check the drive belt for any breaks or tears. Occasionally, you will find that the drive belt has disengaged from either the drive motor or from the brush. If this is the case, you can just go ahead and reconnect the belt as it was previously attached.

As a last resort, if none of the above troubleshooting steps has solved the problems with your Miele Vacuum not spinning, you can try to see if the bearings or spindles which allow the brush to spin without obstruction in the vacuum head appear to have become worn out and ineffectual.

You can test this yourself by manually spinning the brush after taking the belt drive off but keeping it in its same position enclosed in the vacuum head.

If the brush does not roll easily or evenly, it most likely means that the bearings or spindles will need to be replaced.

Miele Vacuum not Turning Off

If your Miele Vacuum Cleaner does not turn off, it could be due to a problem with the thermal protection breaker. The thermal protection breaker is designed to turn the motor off to avoid overheating or the potential for fire. If the dust bag is overloaded with debris, it can also lead to your Miele Vacuum not turning off.

If your Miele Vacuum is not working and is not turning off, go ahead and unplug the vacuum cleaner. Check all the parts of the vacuum to see if there are any areas of obstruction caused by hair or dirt accumulation.

Then, use scissors to cut out any areas of debris and obstruction that are preventing the vacuum from operating normally.

Keep the vacuum cleaner cool by turning it off and unplugging it from the external wall socket. Wait for at least thirty minutes until there is an automatic reset of the Thermal Cutoff Breaker.

Miele Vacuum Won’t Suction

If you are having problems with the suction of your Miele Vacuum which is causing you to be unable to clean up dirt or dust that may be on the floor or on the carpet, it is mostly likely due to a suction leak somewhere in the vacuum’s system.

If your Miele Vacuum Cleaner is not working and your Miele Vacuum will not suction, check to see that all the filters have been installed correctly and that all the covers are fully locked down in place. Also, check that the vacuum bag is in its proper place and that its cover is in place as well.

Evaluate if either the flexible hose or the metal wand has any defects such as holes or tears in them. If either one has any problem with it, you will need to replace the part.

As a quick fix, you could try to use duct tape to try to seal any holes.

A faulty Suction Motor which is responsible for driving the suction within your Miele Vacuum by causing a fan to withdraw air into the vacuum cleaner bag from the vacuum cleaner tube can also be the cause of the lack of suction in your vacuum.

If the suction motor has failed totally or is malfunctioning, it is usually necessary to replace the entire unit with a new motor.

If you decide that you want to attempt to fix this issue yourself without the aid of a Certified Miele Vacuum Cleaner Technician, you can try to remove the old motor and replace it with a new one.

To do this, you can again take out the cord reel and the lid from the vacuum and use a screwdriver to unscrew all the screws that are attaching the body of the vacuum to the vacuum cleaner base.

When you can easily see the motor, lift it carefully out of the motor housing and then take all the foam padding that is surrounding the motor out of the way. Now, disconnect all the wires that are attached to the motor.

At this point, take the new motor and put it back into the motor housing and then reattach all the wires to it in the same configuration as the wires were originally attached to the old motor.

Now, put the pieces of the vacuum back together again and check to see that your Miele Vacuum is functioning normally again.

If you are still having problems with poor suction, make sure that there are no obstructions in your vacuum cleaner hose.

If there are any obstructions, it can cause a backup in the entire vacuum cleaner system that will prevent your vacuum from picking up any dirt on your floor or carpet.

If all these troubleshooting steps have failed to reveal the cause of these issues, you can check for any problems in the vacuum cleaner’s entire electrical path.

Circuit failure can be caused by either a problem with mechanical blockages or by very high or very low temperature fluctuations that are flowing through your vacuum cleaner.

If you suspect electrical problems, you can use a multimeter to check all the fuses and all of the electric circuits for electrical continuity.

Start with the circuits that are the ones nearest to the cord reel and branch out to then check the circuits that are closer to the motor.

If the problem turns out to be a simple issue like a fuse that has blown out, you can simply purchase a new fuse and then replace it.

Other electrical problems are usually the most difficult and expensive to fix and may require the services of an experienced Vacuum Cleaner Repair Technician.

Usually, if the Miele Cord Retract is not working, it is not necessary to replace the entire cord retract assembly.

If your Miele Vacuum Cleaner is not working and your Miele Vacuum Cord Retract is also not working, remove the vacuum cleaner bag along with the exhaust filter and then take off the rear control panel. Check to see if the cord reel is alternately moving back and forth.

Miele Vacuum Won’t Close

If you have opened your Miele vacuum to remove the bag and it won’t close, there might be a problem with the fit of the vacuum bag.

If your Miele vacuum is not working and your Miele Vacuum won’t close, remove the vacuum bag all the way out of your vacuum. Check the arrows on the bag to make sure the bag was put in correctly. Make sure the lid of the vacuum is fully seated so that the lid rests directly on the housing.
