Amazon Prime Video has a bunch of good TV series and movies that you can’t get on the other streaming services. But, I was wanting to know how to fix some various issues I was having with it. Here’s what I found.
If you’re having trouble with Prime Video on your Apple TV, there are a few things you can try. First, make sure your Apple TV and Prime Video app are up to date. If that doesn’t work, try restarting your Apple TV and router. If the issue persists, contact Amazon customer support for further assistance.
There are several reasons why Prime Video may not be working on Apple TV. Here are some common issues and their solutions:
- Internet connectivity issues: If your internet connection is weak or unstable, Prime Video may not work properly. Try resetting your Wi-Fi router or modem and reconnecting your Apple TV to the internet.

Prime Video Not on Apple TV
An Apple TV doesn’t come with Prime Video already loaded on to it. So, when you look through the list of apps on your Apple TV it isn’t there. Here’s how to install Amazon Prime Video on your Apple TV.
As a general rule, you want to look for it on the app store on your Apple TV. Search for ‘prime video’ and then click on it to install it. Once it downloads and installs it will show as one of the apps on your Apple TV. After that there are some additional steps to install it.
After you install it and click on it, it will give you a unique code. You need to go to the Prime Video website and input the code on your Prime Video account so that it can sync your Prime Video account to your Apple TV.
You need to access the Prime Video website using your smartphone, tablet, or computer. The website you go to is: Primevideo.com/mytv. Once you input the unique code that your Apple TV gives you it will sign you into your Prime Video account and you can stream TV shows and movies.
Prime Video Doesn’t Work on Apple TV
Sometimes certain apps can just stop working altogether, and you need to take a few steps to get it working again. Here’s how to get Prime Video to start working when it’s not working on your Apple TV.
As a whole, you should force close the app. To do that press the screen button on your Apple TV remote twice. This will show you the apps that you currently have open on your Apple TV. Navigate to the Prime Video app by swiping left and right on the touchpad on your Apple TV remote.
Once you locate the Prime Video app you just swipe up on your Apple TV remote to close it. After that, you can open it again by selecting it from the apps on your Apple TV home screen. If that still doesn’t work, then you should uninstall the Prime Video app and open it again.
To do that you need to hover over the Prime Video app using your Apple TV remote. Once it’s highlighted then press the play/pause button on your Apple TV remote and it will bring up a menu with additional options. The first option on the list is ‘delete’. Select this option and then the Prime Video app will be deleted.
Once it’s deleted go to the app store and download it again. This will do a fresh install of the app, and upgrade it to the latest version. If it’s still not working then you might be having an issue with your internet connection. I’ll explain how to fix that in the next section.
Amazon Prime Keeps Buffering on Apple TV
Sometimes you will select a TV show or movie to watch on the Prime Video app on your Apple TV and when it’s playing it will keep buffering. This is due to an issue with your internet connection. Here’s how to get it working again:
Generally, you want to test your internet connection to make sure it’s running properly. Access a video on Youtube with a smartphone or computer and see if it’s also buffering. If a Youtube video is buffering too, then it means your internet is running slow.
It’s important to note that you should test it using the same Wi-Fi or internet connection that your Apple TV is connected to.
If you can stream a video on Youtube on another device using the same internet connection that your Apple TV is connected to, then there’s an issue with the internet connection getting to your Apple TV.
To fix that, it’s best to restart your Apple TV, and your internet router. Use your Apple TV remote to go to the settings on your Apple TV. In the settings go to ‘system’, then choose restart,
You can also hard crash your Apple TV by unplugging it at the wall. Once it turns back on, check to see if it’s now working properly and isn’t buffering when you try to watch a TV show or movie.
After that or at the same time you can restart your internet router. To do that you can press the power button on your router, or unplug it at the wall. Wait for 5 to 10 seconds, and then turn it back on. Most modems take 2 to 5 minutes to start back up and connect to the internet.
Once your modem is back on, try to stream a TV show or movie on Prime Video and see if it plays the video uninterrupted. If you tried all of these steps and it’s still buffering you should contact your internet service provider and have then troubleshoot the issue for you.
How Do You Reset Amazon Prime on Apple TV?
Resetting an app is a bit different depending on what device you’re using. Here’s what to do to reset the Amazon Prime Video app on your Apple TV.
To reset Amazon Prime Video press the ‘screen button’ twice on your Apple TV remote. After that it will change the screen and will show a carousel with the apps that you have open. From there navigate to the Prime Video app using the touch screen on your Apple TV remote. Then swipe up to close it.
After that, you can select the Prime Video app from your Apple TV home screen to reopen it. That will reset the app and fix a wide range of issues. As an additional step you can reset the app by uninstalling and reinstalling it.
To do that you need to highlight the Prime Video app from your Apple TV home screen. With the Prime Video app highlighted press the ‘play/pause’ button. That will bring up a menu and one of the options will be ‘delete’. Select delete and wait for it to be removed.
