Sharp make many different appliances for the kitchen. The dishwashers they make are reliable and high quality, but like all appliances from time to time they can have issues. Today, I will explain the troubleshooting steps to do when your Sharp dishwasher is not working.

In general, either the door is not closed properly, the delay start function has been set, the child lock is on, or there is no power to your Sharp dishwasher. Verify your Sharp dishwasher is getting power by seeing if any of the lights on the control panel are lighting up, then do the steps below.

Open your dishwasher, and close it again making sure to push it closed all the way until it clicks closed. There can also be some food debris or dust in the door hinge and around the seal that can prevent the door from closing all the way. Below, I will provide step by step instructions for what the other steps to do if your Sharp dishwasher is not working.

If you select a cycle and then press the start button a Sharp dishwasher will begin working. In some cases the control panel won’t display any lights, or when you press the start button nothing happens. This is why a Sharp dishwasher doesn’t work, and how to get it to work.

Overall, the delay start function is set, the child lock is enabled, the fuse on your home’s circuit breaker has been triggered and no power is getting to your Sharp dishwasher, or the door is not closed all the way.

To turn the child lock off differs based on which Sharp dishwasher model you have. For example, on the SDW6757ES, you press and hold the HI TEMP WASH button, and the POWER WASH button at the same time. But, on another model you press and hold the LIGHT and EXPRESS WASH buttons at the same time.

Typically the buttons to hold down to turn the child lock off have a label with a padlock icon. The two buttons to press go from the button to the padlock icon. If yours doesn’t have this, or you can’t see it you should refer to the owners manual for your specific Sharp dishwasher model.

An online version of the owner’s manual can be found on this page of the official Sharp website. On most models there is a light for the child lock, and it will be lit up to indicate that it’s on. When you turn it off the light will go off.

The door can not be closed all the way. When this happens the onboard computer will register that the door is not closed, and it won’t start. You should check the door is closed all the way by opening it and closing it again.

Making sure that it clicks closed. There can also be debris stuck to the seal on the door which can stop the door from closing all the way. Inspect the outer edge of the door, and the outer edge on the dishwasher that the door closes on to.

It can need a wipe with a damp cloth. Or, if there’s a lot of debris and dust you may need to scrub it with a soft plastic brush and warm soapy water. Be careful not to get any water into any holes or let it run too much, as it can get into the electrical wiring which should be avoided.

As a general rule, use the least amount of water possible. Your Sharp dishwasher may not be getting power at all. You will be able to tell because no lights are lit up on the control panel.

The main cause is typically that there has been a power surge which has turned the circuit breaker at the main power board off. If you’re familiar with the mains power board you can inspect it and turn the circuit breaker back on. Or, replace a fuse that has blown.

Sharp Dishwasher Not Draining

One of the main functions a dishwasher needs to do is drain itself after it has cleaned the dishes. At the end of a cycle there is a lot of water pooled at the bottom of the dishwasher. Here is what causes this to happen, and the troubleshooting steps you should take if your Sharp dishwasher is not draining.

As a general rule, there is a blockage at the base of your Sharp dishwasher that needs to be cleared, or there is a kink in the drain hose. If neither of these are the issue the drain pump may be faulty. Start by inspecting the base of your dishwasher for a blockage by doing the steps below.

The drain hose is a little bit difficult to check because it’s normally located at the rear of a Sharp dishwasher. Therefore, it requires you to pull the dishwasher out. So, it’s best to start by inspecting the base of the dishwasher.

There is a plastic screen that sits over a large hole at the bottom of your dishwasher. This screen can have food debris caught in and water can’t drain through. The large hole at the base of your dishwasher can also have food, or a broken piece of a cup of plate stuck in it.

It needs to be inspected, and cleared if there’s a blockage. It’s very easy to do by yourself.

Sharp Dishwasher Not Starting

To start a Sharp dishwasher you first select a cycle and then press the start button. However, if nothing happens when you press the start button it can be something minor like one of the settings or an issue with one of the components. This is how to troubleshoot your Sharp dishwasher when it isn’t working.

Generally, the child lock is on, the door is not closed completely, or the delay start has been selected. The child lock prevents any buttons from being pressed, and the delayed start can have been set accidentally and needs to be cleared. Below are troubleshooting steps to fix these issues.

Some models will show a countdown timer if the delayed start is selected. However, you can clear the delayed start by pressing the ‘start/cancel’ button. After that select a new cycle and press start to see if that has fixed it.

Sharp Dishwasher Not Drying

One of the big advantages of a dishwasher is it both washes and dries dishes. The dry function is controlled by a heating element that turns the water on the dishes to steam. If your Sharp dishwasher is not drying this is what causes this to happen.

Overall, the dishwasher has been loaded incorrectly, or the cycle selected did not include drying. When loading the dishes ensure they aren’t touching each other, and bowls and cups are loaded upside down to allow water to drain out. To check the cycle includes drying see the steps below.

Many Sharp dishwashers have buttons for each of the cycles. It’s possible the RINSE cycle was selected instead of a normal wash cycle. Select a regular cycle like heavy duty, normal, or express wash and see if the issue persists.

Provided, you’ve loaded your Sharp dishwasher correctly so that water doesn’t pool in the dishes, then it’s most likely the heating element has blown. You should contact Sharp support to have a technician take a look at it.

The other thing is the onboard computer could be malfunctioning. A technician will be able to diagnose exactly what the issue is.

Sharp Dishwasher Not Cleaning Properly

If a Sharp dishwasher is functioning properly the dishes should be perfectly clean after a cycle. There are a range of issues that can cause it not to clean properly. Here’s what they are.

In general, the water pressure was temporarily low, the dishes were loaded too close together, not enough detergent or rinse aid was used, the cycle was not set high enough for how dirty the dishes are, or the spray arms were obstructed.

As you may know, rinse aid is a special detergent that reduces the surface tension of water. This causes a dishwasher to provide a much better clean. It’s so good in fact that virtually all new dishwashers have a rinse aid compartment.

If the rinse aid is completely empty or no rinse aid was used it can cause decreased cleaning performance. Check the rinse aid level in the rinse aid compartment. Many Sharp dishwashers have a rinse aid light that will illuminate to tell you that the rinse aid levels are low.

In other cases you may have selected the wrong cycle. For example, the delicate cycle could have been set when the dishes were heavily soiled. Lastly one or both of the spray arms could be obstructed.

There are two spray arms, one at the top and one at the bottom. These spin and spray water over the dishes when the dishwasher is operating. It’s common for a utensil to have fallen through the tray and is blocking the spray arm from spinning.

Or a plate or cup is too large on the top rack and is blocking the spray arm from spinning. This won’t allow the spray arm to rotate and spray water over all of the dishes. Typically, if you stack your dishwasher correctly making sure that nothing is blocking the spray arms it won’t be an issue.

But, from time to time they can get obstructed. Try spinning the spray arms manually with both drawers closed before another wash cycle and see if the issue occurs again.

Sharp Dishwasher Keeps Beeping

A Sharp dishwasher will only beep a few times at the end of a cycle to let you know it’s finished. If there’s a problem with your Sharp dishwasher it will continue to beep. This is why this happens, and how to get it to stop beeping.

As a general rule, there is an error with one of the components, or the on board computer. Typically, your Sharp dishwasher needs to be reset. This is done by disconnecting it from the power, and then connecting it again. If that doesn’t fix it, contact Sharp support.

When it’s beeping it can display an error code on the control panel. You can see what this error code means by referencing it in your owner’s manual. In that case, you can apply the fix if possible.

But, in some cases it will require a repair technician. An issue can happen with most dishwasher brands where it will continue beeping and won’t stop until you disconnect the power. Until you get it repaired it’s a good idea to disconnect it from the power.

If the wall outlet it’s plugged into is easily accessible, unplug it or turn it off there. Whereas, if it’s inaccessible without pulling out the whole dishwasher it can be easier to turn off the circuit breaker at the switchboard.

Sharp Dishwasher Light Flashing F2/F5

There are a range of different error codes that a Sharp dishwasher will display. These indicate which component is faulty, or another issue such as the drain being clogged. Below, is how to troubleshoot a Sharp dishwasher that has flashing lights and displays error code F2 or F5.

Overall, this is an error code to your specific Sharp dishwasher. Error codes are unique to each Sharp dishwasher make and model. Therefore, refer to the specific owners manual for your Sharp dishwasher, it will explain what the error is on the last few pages.

From there you can apply the fix yourself if possible. Or, it can require a repair technician to repair it.

How to Hard Reset Sharp Dishwasher

Confused man standing

When there’s an issue with an appliance hard resetting it is a great way to fix many issues. Not all appliances can be factory or hard reset. This is whether it’s possible to hard reset a sharp dishwasher, and how to do it.

Overall, there is no known way to hard reset a Sharp dishwasher. There is no information in the owner’s manual or on the official Sharp website for how to do a hard reset. A soft reset can be performed by disconnecting it from the power, and then reconnecting the power again.

This article and its contents are owned by Ready To DIY and was first published on 08/03/2022.

At the very end of the owner’s manual for a Sharp dishwasher it lists all the fixes for the most common issues with a Sharp dishwasher. In general, a hard reset shouldn’t be required for a Sharp dishwasher. There are no programmable settings that are saved on a Sharp dishwasher.

Therefore, doing a soft reset is enough to fix any issues. And if that doesn’t work then it’s best to contact Sharp support.

As a general rule, check that your Sharp dishwasher is getting power by verifying that some lights are showing on the control panel for your dishwasher. If it is getting power then either the child lock is on, delayed start is selected, and/or the door is not closed all the way.
