Xbox Netflix Not Loading/Opening/Playing

When using Netflix on your Xbox, you can quickly switch between gaming and viewing in a matter of seconds by having the streaming service right on your console. However, if Netflix is not loading, opening, or playing for you, what can you do to get the app functioning again?

If Netflix on your Xbox is not loading, opening, or playing, try restarting the app, restarting your console, resetting your modem or router, moving your modem or router closer to the console, and check to make sure you have the proper bandwidth to accommodate Netflix.

Netflix allows subscribers to have access to thousands of different titles from the comfort of wherever their devices can take them, with one of those devices being an Xbox. Whether you simply want to bypass having to change devices to access this app or simply don’t have another device that is capable of supporting Netflix, the app should work without problem on your console. If Netflix is not loading, opening, or playing on your Xbox, continue reading below.

To download any application on your Xbox, you will simply go to the apps section within your console, search or select the app you are looking to install, allow it to download and install, then move forward with either logging into the app or using it immediately if no login is required. This same exact process is no different for Netflix, and if you are able to download and install it, you may be quite surprised when you see that it will not load, open, or play as it should.

If Netflix on your Xbox is not loading, opening, or playing, restart the app from within your console. To do this, have the app visible on your screen and highlight the app. You will then press ‘Menu’ and select ‘Quit’ and then relaunch the app by finding Netflix and opening it again.

If you have restarted the app but go to open it and it is still not loading, opening, or playing, try another approach of restarting your Xbox console. To do this, press the Xbox button on your controller and go to ‘Settings’ > ‘Restart’ > then select ‘Yes’ to confirm you want the restart process to begin. Allow the device to completely shut down and start back up, then go back to Netflix and see if you are able to open the app without any issue.

When you select Netflix from your Xbox console, you will usually go through a brief period where the app takes time to load and then opens. When Netflix is loading on your Xbox before opening, a screen will appear with the Netflix title and within a few seconds, you will then be guided to the home screen of the app. However, if you are using an Xbox to play Netflix and you cannot get past the loading screen so the app can open, what can you do to fix the problem?

If Netflix is not loading or opening, check to make sure that your internet connection is working properly. To troubleshoot this, try resetting your modem or router but unplugging both (if separate from one another) directly from their power source for 60 seconds.

Once the 60 seconds have passed, plug the modem or router back into the power source and allow it to reboot long enough that there are no more blinking lights. Once the lights have stopped blinking, you will know that it has completely rebooted and you can then go back to your Xbox, find Netflix, and see if there are still issues with the app loading and opening.

Netflix Not Connecting On Xbox

When using Netflix on your Xbox, you must be able to connect to a network in order to have a connection that supports this streaming app. One way to fix this problem is to restart your modem or router and the steps to complete this can be found in the previous section titled, “Xbox Netflix Not Loading/Opening.” However, if you reset your modem or router and are still experiencing connection issues with Netflix on your Xbox, take a look below to find the solution.

If Netflix is not connecting on your Xbox, it could be that the location of your router is too far away to deliver a proper signal. Try moving your router closer to your Xbox to see if this allows for the app to connect. Avoid getting too close to the device though, as this can cause similar issues.

When it comes to the placement of your router, there are a few things that you want to consider: try to keep the router near your Xbox and avoid putting it in faraway rooms that may be separated by thick walls, as this can cause tremendous interruption with your network connection. You also want to avoid placing the router right up against devices that are using the connection, as this can cause interruption as well, making the connection just as weak.

Xbox Won’t Play Netflix

Once you are able to download and install Netflix, are able to get into the app by inputting your user name and password, and can scroll through the thousands of different titles to get to watching your next pick, you may not expect to click on the title and be met with a message that the title can’t play. If you are able to get into the app and can see the content within it, you may be confused as to why the selected title won’t play when using your Xbox.

If your Xbox won’t play Netflix, it could be that you don’t have the proper bandwidth to support playing the content from within the app. You will need a connection speed of 25 Mbps or higher to be able to play Netflix from your Xbox, as lower bandwidths cannot accommodate the content.

If you don’t know your bandwidth speed, you can do a speed test from any internet-capable device in your home. Once the speed test is completed, your bandwidth speed will be revealed. If the speed is below 25 Mbps, you will need to upgrade your internet to accommodate the titles you are wanting to play within Netflix, which will not only allow you to watch what you want when you want, but make the process much faster than before.
