There are three ways you can reset your GE washer front-loader. The first way is to simply remove power from the washing machine. You can do this by either unplugging the washing machine from its power source or shutting off the circuit breaker supplying the power to the power source.

The second option is to turn the washing machine off. Remove the washing machine from its power source. Press and hold the ‘START/PAUSE’ button for 5 seconds. After 5 seconds, return power to the washing machine.

Reset a GE washer top-loader by turning the washing machine off. Remove the washing machine from its power source and allow it to rest for at least 60 seconds before returning power. Within 30 seconds of restoring power, open and close the washer lid 6 times, within a 12 second period.

Washing machines are dependent upon good communication between the control board and the door switch. If the door switch is not engaged, the control board is not signaled to start communicating any cycle, temperature, or timer commands.

When opening and closing the washer lid, it is important that the washer lid and lid switch make contact. You should hear a clicking or latching sound as the magnet is engaged. Raise the washer lid at least 4 inches when opening and closing.

These two actions will ensure the washer control board is activated and is being reset, or cleared, of any stalled commands that are preventing the washing machine from working correctly.

How To Reset GE Washer Spin Cycle/Won’t Spin

The spin cycle of the washing machine is a crucial step that should not be overlooked. If the spin cycle does not work correctly, your laundry will be holding a lot of water. Or there are times when you wash an item that consists of fabric that naturally absorbs and holds water.

In either case, you need to be able to use the spin cycle of the washing machine to remove that excess water. If these items were to be placed into the dryer without that excess water being removed, you risk overloading and overheating your dryer.

A washing machine that does not spin is a sign that the control board is experiencing a glitch. As you have already read in this article, the best way to restart the control board is by unplugging the washing machine and letting it rest for at least 60 seconds.

Once the washing machine has rested, clear any lingering glitches by opening and closing the washer lid/door 6 times. This will wake up the control board, removing any lingering glitches so it can now respond to new commands.

You can reset a GE washer spin cycle/won’t spin by selecting the ‘Final Spin’ cycle. Press and hold the ‘Spin’ option on the digital display for 3 seconds. Once the command displays on the panel, turn off the ‘Extra Rinse’ option and start the spin cycle.
