Makita Drill not Working

Makita drills are usually extremely reliable and so it is quite upsetting and frustrating to find that your Makita drill is not working properly. Most of the time, this can be caused by either a dead battery or a problem with the battery charger. Read on to learn about what troubleshooting steps you can take to analyze and solve this issue so that you can start using your Makita Drill normally once again.

If you want to know why your Makita Drill is not working and how to fix it, first, go ahead and plug the battery charger into the wall outlet. If the charger is working, you will see, and you will easily notice, that its lights will flash one time.

Then, you will see the charge displaying a Green Light next to the indication of Ready to Charge. You should also be able to see the temperature gauge flashing green, which means that the charger is not overheating.

If the temperature gauge is flashing either yellow or red, you need to transfer it to a place that is not as hot. If, despite moving it, it continues to flash red or yellow, it indicates that there is a problem with the cooling fan that is not cooling properly and probably needs to be repaired or replaced.

You can now try to plug an 18-volt battery into the Makita Drill Recharger. If the recharger is working properly, you should see a steady yellow light at first indicating that the unit is charging and then this light should then turn green, indicating that the battery is now completely recharged.

At this point, you should also be able to hear a low amplitude humming sound emanating from the Power Inverter from the Eighteen Volt Recharger.

If you see the battery recharger flashing either red or yellow, it means that the battery is malfunctioning or is faulty and you will need to replace it with a new battery.

The batteries powering a Makita Drill are Lithium-Ion Batteries and are not able to be repaired and will need to be replaced.

After this, you should take it to an appropriate battery recycling operation where it can be recycled.

Now, put the new battery back into the Makita Drill. Try to press on the Trigger to determine if the chuck of the drill is now moving.

If this is not the case and the Chuck is still not rotating, try putting the drill into Reverse Gear. Now, see if the Chuck rotates.

If you find that the chuck is only able to rotate in one direction, then the probability is that the teeth of the gears have either worn down or, for some reason, they are not in mesh with the opposing gears on the opposite side.

If the gears are misaligned, you will need to take the Makita Drill to a properly authorized Makita Service Center to have it evaluated and fixed by a Certified Makita Drill Technician.

In addition, if there has been a short circuit in the battery charger, and your Makita Drill has effectively just stopped working, the best thing to do is to check it with a Multimeter.

To do this, first look to determine the voltage of your battery charger. The voltage should be clearly marked on the charger or on the drill or on the battery itself.

Then, go ahead and be sure to set the Multimeter to a voltage that is the same as or higher than the voltage rating of the battery.

Plug the charger into the power source and then touch the positive contact, which is colored red, to either one of the metal contacts that you can find on the bottom of the charger.

Finally, take a reading with the meter and if there is no reading at all, then you will know that the charger itself is defective.

Makita Drill no Torque

Makita Drills are well known for having torque settings that are adjustable. This is crucial when you are using your Makita Drill to drive screws into wood. If your drill has no torque, follow the steps below to solve the problem.

If you want to know how to fix the problem of a Makita Drill with no torque, look for the arrow on top of the torque ring that is near the drill head. Set the torque numbers between one and four for small screws, five and eight for soft wood, and between nine and eleven for either semi-soft or semi-hard wood.

Makita Drill Brake not Working

If your Makita Drill Brake is not working, it may be due to an issue with the Armature Assembly. The Armature Assembly is the central part of your Makita Drill’s motor that controls the drill brake and may need to be replaced to solve this issue.

If you want to know how to fix your Makita Drill Brake if it is not working, remove the battery and the rear cover. Then, remove the housing. Pull the brush spring out of the way and then remove the brushes. Slide the armature off.

Now, replace the armature with a new one and then put the drill back together. Now test the drill to make sure the Drill Brake is working properly.

Makita Drill Won’t Change From Hammer

If you were drilling masonry and were using the Makita Drill Hammer Setting which disengages the rotation mode, it is beyond frustrating to have the drill stuck in the hammer setting when you are going on to another drilling process.

If you want to know how to fix your Makita Drill from not changing out of the Hammer mode, adjust the gear box so that the clutch is loosened up, which will allow you to rotate the setting back to chisel mode and out of Hammer mode.

Makita Drill Variable Speed not Working

If the variable speed trigger on your Makita Drill is not working, and is only running at full speed, it is probably because there is a problem with dirty contacts within the drill.

If your Makita Drill Variable Speed is not working and you want to know how to fix it, first, purchase some Contact Cleaner and spray it generously inside the trigger mechanism. Move the trigger back and forth for several seconds and then replace all the parts and see if the problem has been cleared.

Makita Drills are powered by rechargeable battery packs. When the battery power level runs low, the battery needs to be taken off and placed into a battery charger.  If your Makita Drill Red Light is blinking or flashing, it is indeed distressing and concerning. Read on to learn what this means and how to troubleshoot the problem so that you can fix it quickly and easily.

If you want to know how to fix your Makita Drill Red Light Blinking and/or Flashing, it is important to know that it usually indicates that the Makita Drill Battery is in a state where it is simply too heated up to receive a charge. At this point, the cooling fans will turn on.

After this, the battery will then begin charging once the temperature has dropped to a temperature of seventy degrees Fahrenheit.

You should also check the battery charger to make sure that it is not either cracked or otherwise damaged. Be sure to also evaluate the power cord of the battery charger to make sure that it has not deteriorated to such an extent that it is no longer functional.

If the battery charger is damaged or if the charger cord has deteriorated, it is most likely time to replace the entire battery charger unit.

Now, you can clean the charging terminals and the battery terminals to ensure that they are all free of any dirt, dust, or debris. You can accomplish this by using rubbing alcohol and a cotton swab and rubbing the terminals until they are clean.

At this point, go ahead and plug the battery charger into an outlet. The battery charger will show a green light which indicates that there is power going to the charger.
