Onn Tablet Won’t Turn On (How To Fix)

The Onn tablet is a convenient option that allows you to surf the Internet, do your email, and even do some light computing. It is not without its issues, and one of those issues is the fact that it can freeze and not power on at times. When you come across this problem, there are options that may work.

The first thing to try when your Onn tablet is not working is to hold the volume down and power button simultaneously. Doing so will move the tablet into safe mode and if you continue to hold the power button down, the tablet will power off.

After the power is off on the tablet, continue to hold down the volume down and power buttons for an additional two seconds. This will take you to additional boot options.

Unfortunately, the boot options are in Chinese so unless you understand how to read Chinese, you would be lost when figuring it out. Fortunately, the option you want is at the bottom of the list. Use the volume down button to scroll to that option and select it.

At this point, the unresponsive screen issue will be resolved. The power will come back on and you should be able to use your tablet normally.

Things To Try to Turn On Your Onn Tablet

We may have many tools that we use on a daily basis, including the electronic tools that we use. One of those is likely to be a tablet. It gives us the world at our fingertips but when they aren’t starting properly, it can be frustrating. What can be done to correct this issue?

If you have a problem with a tablet not starting, you can try cycling the power. This is done by opening the tablet, removing the battery, and holding the power button for several seconds. Doing so drains the residual energy. Replace the battery and hold the power button in for a few seconds while the tablet starts.

In many cases, you will be able to use a power cycle to restart a tablet quickly and easily. It is almost like hitting the reset button on an appliance.

At the same time, however, there are always going to be variations that exist from one tablet to another. It is impossible to cover every single scenario in the scope of a paragraph or two, which is why you may need to dig a little deeper.

In this article, we will consider some of the different ways that a tablet can be started when it is refusing to start up. We will also consider many specific models and manufacturers, some of which need a little extra help when the power button doesn’t seem to be working.

As an example, there are some tablets that are sealed and you won’t have access to the battery. Doing this type of hard reset will not work, but there may be other options that are available.

We will consider some of those top choices to try if you can’t get your tablet to turn on. You can then look for the model tablet you have if all else fails.

1. Power Cycle

One of the first and most important things to try when your tablet won’t start is to perform a power cycle. This is done by removing the battery from the device and pushing the power button for a few seconds to drain the power.

Make sure that you don’t have your device plugged in while you are doing a power cycle. After reinstalling the battery, the device should start normally. If not, try charging it for 15 minutes and starting it then.

2. Battery Problems

Sometimes, one of the issues that can lead to a device not starting is the battery has failed. Batteries have a limited lifespan and if you have noticed that you have had to charge the battery frequently, it may have reached the end of its life.

Batteries may sometimes also fail unexpectedly. If your device works while it is plugged in but not unplugged, it could be an issue with the battery. You can order replacement batteries online.

3. Charging Problems

If the battery is operating fine but it is still not turning on, it could be an issue with charging. Some tablets will not charge properly unless you use the appropriate charger. This would include the charger cable as well as the power brick.

Try using a different charger and if all possible, use the charger that came with the device.

4. Long Press the Power Button

When we experience problems with an app, we sometimes long-press the app and look at the options. Your tablet may have something built into it when it comes to long pressing the power button.

Press and hold the power button for up to 30 seconds to see if it starts. Sometimes, it is just that simple.

5. Boot into Safe Mode

Just like a Windows computer, Android devices also have a safe mode. It is hidden, so you will have to do some research online to find out how to access the safe mode on your specific device.

When your tablet boots into safe mode, it does so without many of the options that would bog the device down. From there, you can troubleshoot your tablet more easily.

6. Model Specific Options

Although we may be able to long-press the power button on some tablets, there may be specific options for other tablets. Some of those options are considered in the list in this article.

Some model-specific options can include pressing more than one button at a time. It may also include plugging in and unplugging the cable multiple times while pushing the power button. Check the Internet for your model and manufacturer.

7. Check for Physical Damage

Sometimes, a little bit of physical damage will go a long way toward harming your tablet and keeping it from starting. Carefully inspect the tablet for physical damage and evidence that it may have taken a fall.

8. Full Reset

At times the best option you have available is to fully restart your tablet. This is typically only done if nothing else is working. Restarting your tablet will erase the operating system as well as all of the data that has accumulated on your tablet as you are using it.

During a full reset, the operating system will be reestablished. You will likely have to update some of the settings after it is done and reestablish your logins, including your email.

Because of the possibility of having to occasionally perform a full reset, it’s a good idea to backup your important files regularly.

9. Erase New Apps

If you recently installed an app and notice that your tablet is no longer starting, you may need to erase that app. This can be done by booting into safe mode, long-pressing the app icon, and choosing delete.

10. Contact Customer Support

If all else fails, you may need to contact customer support. They may walk you through some of the options that we have already considered on this page but they may also have other options that are so product-specific that they could not be covered in a single guide.

11. Warranty

Always check the warranty to see if you can have the tablet or perhaps the battery replaced for free. Don’t expect customer service to research this for you, you have to do your own legwork.
