Proper refrigeration of food and having clean water and ice are essential for your family’s health. However, there are a number of potential common problems that can commonly arise with your amana fridge not working and your amana freezer either not cooling or not working at all.

Read on to learn more about what these problems are, how you can easily diagnose them, and then what you can do to either fix these problems yourself or when you might need to have these problems repaired by a certified Amana Service Technician.

Amana Fridge Not Cooling

One reason your Amana Fridge is not cooling may be related to having dirty condenser coils. The condenser coils can be found under the refrigerator and are responsible for helping heat to disperse quickly. If these coils are dirty your Amana Fridge will have a hard time keeping a constant temperature.

Another potential cause for your Amana Fridge to work but not cooling is a problem with the condenser fan motor. The condenser fan motor is responsible for bringing air from the condenser coils over the compressor to allow for proper cooling.

Finally, if the temperature control thermostat is malfunctioning, it will stop the system containing the refrigerant from working properly to cool the refrigerator.

If the condenser coils are dirty, you can clean off the debris and dirt. If there are no signs the condenser fan motor blades being obstructed, then the entire unit may have to be replaced. If the temperature control thermostat is just not working, you probably have no other choice than to replace it.

Amana Fridge Not Cooling but Freezer Working

If your Amana Fridge is not cooling, but the freezer is working, this could indicate that frost has accumulated on the evaporator coils which has caused the coils to become plugged up. This will obstruct the flow of air through the evaporator coils which will prevent the fridge from cooling.

Another problem causing this issue is if the Damper Control Assembly which controls the amount of cold air entering into the refrigerator is faulty and is not allowing enough cold air to be available to cool the fridge.

In addition, if the Temperature Control Board which supplies voltage to the motors of the compressor and fans is not working properly, the compressor and fans will not be functioning properly.

If the Damper Control Assembly is either broken or not working properly you will need to replace it. If the Temperature Control Board is not working adequately, you will also probably need to replace it.

Amana Fridge Not Making Ice

If your Amana Fridge is not making ice it could be for several reasons. One common reason is that the freezer temperature is set above 10 degrees Fahrenheit (-12 degrees Celsius) which is set too high for the efficient functioning of the ice maker.

Another potential cause for your fridge not making ice is that the water inlet valve is either defective or does not have enough pressure so that the water can flow through. At least 20 pounds per square inch is needed for normal ice production.

Low water pressure or a faulty door switch that turns off the water and ice dispensers when opening the door of the refrigerator can also affect normal ice production and should be fully evaluated.

Making sure your freezer is set below 10 degrees Fahrenheit can help ensure that your freezer will continue to make ice properly. If your water inlet valve is functioning at less than 20 pounds per square inch, then it probably needs to be replaced to ensure your fridge can produce ice.

Amana Freezer Not Freezing/Cooling

If your Amana Freezer is not freezing or cooling it could be due to dirty condenser coils. These coils which are situated in the walls of the freezer should be cleaned every six to twelve months.

You can reach them either from behind or underneath the condenser coil unit. If the condenser coils are indeed dirty or clogged this will stop the heat from dissipating normally and so the freezer will not be able to cool effectively.

Another potential cause for your freezer malfunctioning could be a problem with the Evaporator Fan Motor. The evaporator fan motor brings air over the evaporator coils allowing the entire freezer to cool. if it is not working properly, you probably need to replace the entire evaporator fan motor.

You should definitely periodically clean the condenser coils to avoid potential problems with your Amana Freezer not freezing or cooling. If the Evaporator Fan Motor is not working properly, you probably need to replace the entire evaporator fan motor unit.

Amana Fridge Water Dispenser Not Working

One reason for the Amana Fridge Water Dispenser not working could be that the water tube in the door has frozen.

To check if the water tube is frozen, you can easily take the tube off at the lower part of the door and attempt to pass air through it. If air does not easily pass through the tube you can try to reset the freezer temperature from 0 to 10 degrees F in order to keep it from freezing again.

Another cause for the fridge’s water dispenser not working could be a defective water inlet valve. You can use a multimeter to assess that the water pressure leading up to the valve is at least twenty pounds per square inch.

To check for a defective water inlet valve you can use a multimeter to assess if the water pressure leading up to the valve is at least twenty pounds per square inch.

If the Dispenser Control Board which controls most of the dispenser system is not working properly it can stop powering all the dispenser systems.

You should test each part of the Dispenser Control Board one by one prior to testing the functioning of the complete Dispenser Control Board.

Oftentimes the entire Dispenser Control Board may need to be replaced to ensure the proper functioning of the entire Amana Fridge Water Dispenser System.

Amana Fridge Not Defrosting

Your Amana Fridge may not be defrosting due to a defective Defrost Control Board. The Defrost Control Board is responsible for the timing of the normal defrost cycle.

If it is malfunctioning, your Amana Fridge will fail to go into its normal defrost cycle. Before you replace the entire Defrost Control Board though, be sure to individually test both the defrost heater and the defrost thermometer.

The defrost timer that controls how often the defrost heater turns on in order to melt off any frost accumulation on the evaporator coils can also become defective.

Before you replace the Defrost Control Board, test the defrost heater and the defrost thermometer. Turn the defrost cycle timer dial to the defrost cycle. The compressor will turn off and the heater will turn on. If this does not happen you probably need to replace it with a new defrost timer.
