GE Smart Switch Not Working (How to Reset)

GE Smart Switches are nifty little devices that allow you to control the device using your smartphone. Some of these switches are even compatible with Alexa and Google, which gives you the ability to use your voice to turn them on and off.

When the GE Smart Switch is not working, resetting the device may fix the problem. This is done by pressing and holding the switch button, paddle, or the toggle for about 10 to 15 seconds. This will reset the device.

When the indicator light begins to blink blue, that is a signal that the reset was successful and the Smart Switch is ready to use.

If the GE Smart Switch is still not working, you can try factory resetting the device. Factory resetting restores the device to how it was when you took it out of the box. This means that any settings that you have programmed for the switch will be lost.

GE Smart Switch Not Connecting To WiFi

GE Smart Switches using your WiFi connection so that you can use the app on your smartphone to control the switch. That is why connecting the GE Smart Switch to your WiFi is an important part of the device.

There are a few different reasons as to why your GE Smart Switch isn’t connected to WiFi. The WiFi not being strong enough or there is interference, the connection steps were not properly followed, or the WiFi is 5G Hz and not 2.4 GHz, which is what the switch needs.

The first thing to check is to ensure the WiFi is up and running. If your WiFi isn’t working, then the GE Smart Switch cannot connect and won’t work properly. If the Wifi is working, check to ensure that it is 2.4 GHz.

The next option would be to reconnect the GE Smart Switch again by following the connection steps on the GE app. This may require resetting the device to factory settings to properly complete the process.

GE Smart Switch Not Working After Power Outage

Power outages disrupt your everyday life, and can even make certain Wifi connected devices stop working properly.

When a power outage has caused your GE Smart Switch to stop working, there are a few troubleshooting steps you can take. The first is to reset your router as the issue may be with the Wifi and not the switch. The next step is to clear the application data.

Clearing the application data will require opening the app settings on your smartphone and removing the data. Once this has been completed, restart the app and try to connect the GE Smart Switch to WiFi.

GE Smart Switch Buzzing

Hearing a low buzzing sound is a frustrating experience, especially when it is coming from your GE Smart Switch.

When your GE Smart Switch is buzzing, it is actually the light bulb and not the switch itself. This buzzing occurs because of vibrations inside the light bulb that occur when the energy that the switch needs for power is not compatible with that LED bulb.

When this occurs, you will need to replace the light bulb with one that is more compatible or one that has a lower wattage.

GE Smart Switch Flickering

A flickering bulb is an extremely annoying situation that makes it hard to concentrate on your daily tasks. Furthermore, flickering lights are known to cause headaches as well. Thankfully, you don’t have to deal with this problem.

When your GE Smart Switch is flickering, the issue could be that you are trying to use a non-dimmer bulb with a dimmable smart switch. This can lead to a slew of problems, including flickering lights. The good news is that this can be easily fixed by simply using a bulb that can dim.

GE Smart Switch Keeps Clicking

GE Smart Switches are not supposed to make a clicking noise. So, if your switch keeps clicking, it’s a sure sign that something is wrong with the device.

When the GE Smart Switch keeps clicking, it could be the wiring is bad or you have a faulty switch. Unfortunately, there isn’t a simple fix for either of these issues. If the problem is with the wiring, then you should consult with an electrician who can examine your wires.

For faulty switches, reach out to GE customer service for further assistance. They may be able to connect you with a local repair technician or assist you in sending the switch back for replacement.

GE Smart Switch Won’t Turn Off

The whole purpose of a light switch is the ability to turn on and off said light. So, when your GE Smart Switch just won’t turn off, you are left scratching your head as to what to do.

When the GE Smart Switch won’t turn off, try pulling out the air gap and waiting 10 to 15 seconds before pushing it back in. The air gap is located at the bottom of the switch and looks like a little button. It doesn’t come out of the switch all the way.

The air gap helps to short the electrical connection so that you can safely change a light that is connected to the smart switch.

How To Factory Reset GE Smart Switch

To factory reset the GE Smart Switch, press the ON button on the switch 3 times, doing so quickly, and then immediately press the OFF button on the switch 3 times. This will cause the switch to factory reset.

Keep in mind that when you factory reset the GE Smart Switch it will lose any settings you have programmed, which means you will have to reprogram the switch after it has been factory reset.
