Cleaning the porcelain tile

While porcelain tiles are beautiful, they can sometimes become stained and difficult to clean.

Here are some suggestions on how you can keep your porcelain tiles looking perfectly clean and shiny.

Polished porcelain tiles and unglazed porcelain tiles can be cleaned with the same solution. Take a gallon of hot water and throw in a ¼ cup of white wine vinegar. Stir the vinegar into the water and use a sponge to wipe away any dirt or grime. Rinse the tiles with clear water and dry with a towel.

Cleaning porcelain tiles is easier than you think. There’s no need for fancy cleaning solutions.

Yes, it is possible to clean your porcelain tiles with vinegar. After using a brush or broom to sweep away any dust or dirt, mix up a solution of white wine vinegar and hot water. Apply the water and vinegar solution with a sponge, rubbing away any marks. Rinse with clean water and dry with a towel.

Unpolished porcelain tiles are a little more delicate and cleaning them is slightly more difficult. You don’t want to stain them using harsh household cleaners.

Ideally, you should use a very lightweight, gentle commercial tile cleaner and mix about a ¼ cup into a bucket of hot water.

Then use a sponge or a mop to gently rub away any marks or dirt.

Once you have completely cleaned the tiles, rinse them with clean water until all traces of the cleaning solution are gone. Then use a soft towel to dry the porcelain tiles.

It is important that you do not use anything that will damage the tile. Avoid acidic or chlorine-based cleaners. These types of cleaners will discolor the porcelain tiles and ruin any patterns.

Also, any cleaners or detergents that have color will possibly tint the tile and ruin its finish.

Avoid using hard or metallic brushes to brush away dirt or scrub marks. They will scratch the tiles and ruin the finish.

Can You Use Baking Soda to Clean Porcelain Tile?

If you are looking for an eco-friendly way to clean your porcelain tiles, then vinegar and baking soda are two of the best ingredients to use.

Combining vinegar and baking soda creates an excellent cleaning solution that is gentle on porcelain tiles. Vinegar is acidic, while baking soda is a base. The two ingredients react and produce a cleaning agent that will effectively get marks and grime. It also gets rid of odors and stains.

To use vinegar and baking soda to clean your porcelain tiles, follow these steps:

  1. Get rid of any dirt or debris by brushing it away.
  2. For finer dirt, use a vacuum cleaner to suck up the last of the dirt.
  3. Add a 1/4 cup of white wine vinegar to a gallon of hot water. Stir it thoroughly.
  4. Make a thick paste by adding a ½ cup of baking soda to a cup of water. Once the solution is mixed, dip a brush or sponge into the paste and smear it onto the areas of tile that are particularly dirty.
  5. Using only soft brushes, scrub any stubborn stains with the vinegar and water mixture. The paste will froth and lift any dirt on your tiles.
  6. Mop the entire tiled area with the vinegar solution, allowing the froth to stand a little in any particularly dirty areas.
  7. Then rinse the porcelain tiles off with clean water.
  8. Finally, dry the tiles with a soft towel or cloth.
  9. If you want your tiles to shine, you can buff them once the floor is totally dry using cheesecloth.
