Tools to cut blinds

Blinds can be successfully cut using a hacksaw. You will need a measuring tape, a pencil or black marker and a hacksaw.

If you want to know how to cut blinds with a Hacksaw, first measure the inside dimensions of the window. Measure the width of the top of the windowsill and the middle of the windowsill and then measure the width of the bottom of the windowsill,

Now, be sure to mark down the smallest of these measurements. Subtract a quarter of one inch from the width of the blind to account for an eighth inch leeway on each side of the blind. Mark the spot on the headrail where you will cut through with the Hacksaw.

Also, be sure to measure the width of the headrail. Be sure to remove the stiffener, which is a piece of metal that is on each of the ends of the headrail. Cut the headrail following your cut mark and if you find that the metal is bending be sure to just bend it back into place and then put the metal stiffeners back into their places on both ends of the headrail.

When you cut the blind slats, make sure that you use a fine-toothed blade that is often used for cutting finished wood. If you need to cut any metal, be sure to use a carbide blade.

When you cut the blinds, be sure to use a steady back and forth motion, moving the hacksaw slowly and surely. You will also need to use the same procedure when cutting the bottom rail.

Since the bottom rail is thicker, it will take longer to saw directly through it. Be sure to sand any residual rough edges using one hundred fifty fine grit sandpaper.

Always be extra careful when you are cutting the metal of the headrail, which can be quite sharp. Be sure to wear goggles and to keep your fingers well away from the Hacksaw cutting saw.
