If the DIRECTV remote is not responding, make sure the batteries are working. Replace the batteries with fresh alkaline batteries. Gently clean the battery terminals with a Q-tip and rubbing alcohol, removing any dirt that could affect the connection.
Restart both your TV and DirecTV device by unplugging or turning them off at the wall outlet and wait for 1 minute before plugging them back in or turning them back on at the wall outlet. If that doesn’t fix the sound not working, next turn off Dolby digital audio in the settings, explained below.
If your DIRECTV remote won’t pair with your Samsung TV, it may be helpful to reset your DIRECTV receiver and restart the pairing process. To do this, find the red button that is located on the side of the DIRECTV cable box or within the card door and hold it down until the restart begins.
