Fisher And Paykel Washer Lid Lock Not Working (Reset/Bypass)

Fisher and Paykel make great washers, but as with other manufacturers, the lid lock can be a cause of constant frustration.

Despite the build quality of these appliances, it is common for the lid lock to cause problems. So we found the best ways to troubleshoot the problems and give you the quickest reset and bypass advice available.

To reset or bypass your Fisher and Paykel washer lid lock when it is not working, you can either pull the manual release inside the front panel or you can factory reset the washer. The lid lock stops the lid from opening when the washer is operating, but it also prevents the washer from starting.

The lid lock prevents the washer from starting a cycle if it detects that the lid is open. This can happen if the lid or lock is out of alignment or broken.

Damaged wiring as well as a faulty control board can also prevent the lid lock from activating.

Bypassing the lid lock is possible by resetting the washer by unplugging it for a few minutes, then switching it on and opening and closing the door 6 times within 12 seconds. This sends a signal to the control board to reset the washer.

To factory reset your washer, select the Spin cycle, and hold the Delay Start and More buttons for 3 seconds, the washer will beep and reset to its default settings.

Fisher And Paykel Washer Lid Lock Clicking

One of the most frustrating faults with a Fisher and Paykel washer occurs when the lid lock starts clicking in the middle of a cycle.

If a Fisher and Paykel lid lock is clicking and the lights come on, then there is a fault with the lid lock. Check the switches for continuity with a multimeter. You want an ohm reading within the specifications for your washer. If the reading is outside the specs, then you must replace the switch.

To access the switches on the door, you’ll need to remove the screws holding the top of the washer in place. These are located underneath plastic caps that you must lever off with a small screwdriver.

Once the top is loose, remove the screws from the rear of the washer and lift the cover off the machine. Be careful not to damage the wire running to the lock mechanism. Unplug the connector and then remove the lock.

Replace the broken lock and reconnect the wire. Fit the top back into the washer and plug it in. The lid lock should then work properly.

Fisher And Paykel Washer Lid Lock Error

When you get a lid lock error on your Fisher and Paykel washer, it means that the control board thinks that the lid is open and it will not allow a cycle to run.

If you see a lid lock error on your Fish and Paykel washer, then the solution is to replace the lid lock. The lid lock will make a clicking sound and the lights will flash on the control panel. A warning message will appear on the display, saying “lid open”. Check that the lid is closed first.

If the lid is closed, then the lid lock is broken or the lock assembly is misaligned. Check for any damage to the locking mechanism. Reposition the lock or the striker plate if they are not in the correct position.

If the lid lock is broken, you can bypass the lock by disconnecting the wiring and putting a jumper across the two outer plug connectors.

Alternatively, you can place a magnet next to the lid lock and fool the machine into thinking that the lid is closed. You can also remove the lid lock mechanism, which will ensure that the lid can always be opened and the control board will receive a “lid closed” signal.

Fisher And Paykel Washer Lid Stuck Locked

If your washer lid is stuck in the closed position, then the lock is either broken or has become jammed.

If a Fisher and Paykel washer lid is stuck closed, you can release it by switching off the washer and waiting a few minutes. The control board will sometimes not recognize that the cycle is finished and will fail to release the lock. By switching off, the lock will release after 2 minutes.

If the lock remains closed, try banging on the locking mechanism with your hand. A few short sharp blows over the locking mechanism can often release the lock if it is gummed up with dirt or if a piece of linty is stuck in the mechanism.

Another method you can try is to push down on the lid and rattle the lock up and down a few times. This can sometimes activate the lock if it is just stuck and not actually broken.

When your washing is stuck in a washer that won’t open, it can be extremely irritating and inconvenient. It is when this happens that bypassing the lid lock seems like a clever thing to do.

While bypassing the lid lock is a quick shortcut to getting inside your washer, it is not a long-term solution. The lid lock is there as a safety device and without it, one can get seriously hurt.

You can bypass the Fisher and Paykel washer lid lock by placing a magnet on top of the switch or by unplugging the connector and placing a wire across the outside connections. To access the connector, you have to unscrew the top of the washer and then remove the lid.

You must be careful not to damage the wiring that goes from the control panel to the lid lock. Follow the wire from the lid lock to the point where it connects to the control board. Unplug the connector and locate the two outside connections on the 3-pin connector.

When you place a piece of copper wire across the two connectors, it completes the circuit and sends a signal to the control board that the lid is closed.

It is important to note that bypassing the lid lock on your washer is potentially very dangerous.

The lid lock prevents the lid from being opened while the machine is in operation and stops the cycle from starting if the lid is not closed properly.

To bypass the Fisher and Paykel lid lock, you can either place a magnet over the locking mechanism if it is the reed-type lock, or you can place a jumper between the two outer connectors in the wiring that comes from the lid lock. You can also remove the locking mechanism inside the lock.

By placing a magnet over the locking mechanism, you fool the control panel into thinking that the reed switch has been activated. The magnet will cause the switch to operate as if the lid portion of the lock is in place.

You can also remove the switch and place a small magnet permanently between the contacts in the reed switch. This will ensure that the switch is always activated.

The most popular method to bypass a lid lock is to disconnect the switch and place a piece of copper wire between the two outside connectors on the switch wire. This replicates the position that the switch is in when it is closed, by completing the circuit and sending a signal to the control panel that the lid is in the closed position.
