Is There A Maytag Dryer Reset Button?

When we hear the word ‘reset’ we automatically think ‘Start Over’. Reset or restart is great when it comes to playing video games, but does it apply to our appliances?

As a general rule, there is not a stand-alone reset button on the Maytag dryer. The dryer does have a built-in feature that enables it to clear its command center and start over. Pressing a sequence of buttons or even removing power to the dryer will activate this built-in reset feature.

We don’t often think of resetting our dryer but, in reality, it is good to know the benefits of doing this. The dryer has many working electrical components that all rely on each other in order for the dryer to work. If one component freezes, all the other working parts are affected.

Error Codes

Error codes are how your dryer communicates to you that something needs your attention. Thankfully, not all error codes require a phone call to a service technician. It is common for our dryers to display error codes when they are overworked. Resetting the dryer will clear these codes.

For example, the error code L2 means there is “no or low line voltage”. This will prevent the dryer’s heating element from turning on. This error code is common after a power surge or if the circuit breaker was tripped.

You can reset this error code by removing power from the dryer for at least 30 seconds. Once you restore power, run a timed dry cycle and the code will clear out.

Power Failure

The error code PF means a power failure has interrupted the drying cycle, resulting in the dryer shutting off. You can reset this error code by pressing and holding the ‘Start’ button. Once the error code clears, select the desired dry cycle and press ‘Start’.

Diagnostic Mode

Running the diagnostic mode will let you know if there is anything more serious with the dryer. The following steps will walk you through how to do this.

Step 1: Select any three buttons on the control panel, except for the Power or Start buttons. Remember the buttons selected and the order in which you press them.

Step 2: Press and release each button within 8 seconds of starting.

Step 3: The display panel will be illuminated for 5 seconds. Any error codes will be displayed in the ‘Remaining Time’ panel.

Step 4: If you do receive an error code, you can press the third button to display the next error code, if there is one.

Step 5: If no other error codes are displayed, press and hold the first button for 5 seconds to exit the diagnostic mode.

If you continue to receive an error code after running the diagnostic test and resetting the dryer, it is important to call a qualified Maytag technician to service your dryer. There could be an electrical or another hardware issue.

To reset a Maytag dryer that won’t run/no power, unplug the dryer from its power source for 30 seconds. Removing power will allow all of the electrical components within the dryer to rest, clear any glitches or stored miscommunications, and start fresh.

If the Maytag dryer continues to not run or have power after resetting it, the most common culprit is a weak power supply. Make sure the dryer power cord is securely connected to the outlet. If the dryer is hardwired, make sure the circuit breaker is fully open.

Another common reason why a Maytag dryer will not work is due to a faulty door switch. As a safety feature, if the dryer door is not securely shut and latched, the dryer will not start. You can test the switch by opening the dryer door and pressing the switch. If the light inside of the drum stays on, the door switch is faulty.
