Samsung Fridge (Fridge/Light/Buttons/Etc) Won’t Work

Samsung Fridge (Fridge/Light/Buttons/Etc) Won’t Work

Samsung refrigerators are considered to be the top of the line in their field. Despite being extremely smart technologically wise, they are unfortunately not excluded from the sporadic error.

If your Samsung fridge doesn’t turn on, you should check for a tripped circuit. If it won’t stop working, it is probably a broken frost timer. If the filter light won’t turn off/control panel doesn’t work, it can be reset. If the condenser/evaporator fan isn’t working, it needs to be replaced.

Dealing with any technical problem can be extremely frustrating, especially when you can’t figure out what the issue is or how to solve it. Throughout this article, you will learn the different causes of your Samsung fridge’s issues and how to fix them.

Samsung Refrigerator Control Panel Lights Not Working

A common reason for Samsung refrigerator control panel lights not working could be a power issue. Ensure the refrigerator is properly plugged in and receiving power. If the rest of the refrigerator is functioning but the control panel isn’t lit, try resetting it by unplugging the fridge for 60 seconds and then re-plugging. This simple reboot can often re-illuminate the control panel, guiding your culinary adventures once more.

In some instances, the control panel lights might be dim or unresponsive due to a malfunctioning control board. The control board governs most of the refrigerator’s electronic functions, including the control panel lights. If it’s malfunctioning, the lights may not work properly. To resolve this, it might be necessary to replace the control board. Ensure to consult your refrigerator’s manual for specific instructions or reach out to a professional technician to safely handle the replacement, ensuring that your control panel gleams informatively once more.

Moreover, the issue might stem from faulty wiring within the refrigerator. Over time, wires can become loose or damaged, disrupting the flow of electricity to the control panel. Inspecting the wiring, especially those connected to the control panel, might reveal issues that are preventing the lights from working. It’s crucial to approach this with utmost caution due to the electrical components involved. If you’re unfamiliar or uncomfortable with handling electrical wiring, seeking assistance from a professional technician is advisable to safely navigate the issue and restore light to your refrigerator’s control panel.

Samsung Fridge Won’t Turn On/Stop Working (With or Without Power Outage): Causes / How to Fix / Need Repairman

There could be several reasons why your fridge won’t turn on or won’t stop working. Not being able to turn on your fridge is very frustrating since keeping your food cold is essential. However, when it won’t stop working, it can cause a very high electricity bill which is also far from ideal. Let’s dive into what could be causing your particular issue.

Fridge Won’t Turn On

  • Unplugged power cord
  • Check breaker box to see if the circuit has tripped
  • Power outage or power surge that occurs often

Fridge Won’t Stop Working

  • It could be that this happens during summer and your fridge has to work hard to maintain the set temperature constantly
  • The fridge is being opened a lot, so it has to keep working to stay cold
  • Warm food has been added to the fridge recently, which also keeps the fridge working hard
  • Broken defrost timer

How to Fix

When it comes to the first issue I addressed (your fridge won’t turn on), you’ve probably already considered: is the power cord plugged in? Often enough, this is the reason that your electronics aren’t turning on.

Then, the next smart thing to do before any other possible problems are investigated: check if the fridge’s circuit has tripped. If this is the case, make sure that you unplug the refrigerator first before resetting the circuit. If you’re dealing with a power outage, you must take the fridge’s plug out and reset the circuit before you plug it back in and turn the refrigerator back on.

Regarding the second issue (fridge won’t stop working), make sure that your fridge is not located directly in the sunlight. It would be ideal if the fridge’s space isn’t scorching, but sometimes there is no other option. In that case, the refrigerator is just going to have to work hard to stay cold. If, however, the defrost timer is broken, you must replace it to solve the issue.

Repairman Necessary

There is always the option that you’re dealing with a bigger issue. If none of the suggestions above fixes the issue, you’re going to need assistance from a repairman/expert. Consult the internet to find one in your area.

Samsung Fridge Filter Light Won’t Turn Off/Reset: Causes / How to Fix / Need Repairman

The filter light on your fridge indicates when it’s time to change the water filter. After about five months, the water filter light goes from green or blue to yellow or orange, which means it’s time for a change. However, after you’ve replaced the water filter, the light should go back to its original color. If it doesn’t, it can be hard to determine when you need to change the filter next, so it is definitely helpful if this feature works properly.

How to Fix

The first thing you should make sure of is that the new filter has been put incorrectly. If this is the case, you can go for a reset. Find the buttons “Ice Type” and “Child Lock” and push them both at the same time for about 5 seconds. While you are pushing these buttons, the light should turn blue or green again, and the reset is finished.

Reset Control Panel

The best thing to try first is to reset the control panel. You can do this by pressing the “Power Cool” and “Power Freeze” buttons at the same time until numbers appear on display. If none of the buttons are working, this probably means that your child lock mode is turned on, which has to be deactivated first. You can do this by carrying out a hard reset of the fridge. How that works is explained later on in this article.

Reset Control Display Light

The reset button for the control display light is located inside of the fridge’s right door at the top. You can turn this on and off again, and it will reboot. If it doesn’t work, you can try leaving it off for a little while longer before turning it back on.

Repairman Necessary

If the above-explained resets are not working for you, it is time to call a repairman. It could also be a different issue that is not so easily detectable by the eye. As mentioned before, consult the internet to find a good repairman in your area.

Samsung Fridge Condenser/Evaporator Fan Won’t Run: Causes / How to Fix / Need Repairman

For the fridge to remain cold, it uses a condenser fan as well as an evaporator fan. If either of these isn’t working, for whatever reason, your fridge won’t be cold after a while.

Fridge Condenser Fan Won’t Run

The first thing you’re going to want to check is the fan blade. If this is obstructed, no cold air will be circulated. If it isn’t blocked, but it’s not spinning freely, you need to replace it. What can also be the cause for your issue is a fan that has been frosted over. In that case, you need to remove it and let it defrost.

Fridge Evaporator Fan Won’t Run

This fan is located in the freezer part of your fridge. If it doesn’t correctly work anymore, it will not cool the entire fridge well enough. It could be possible that your freezer, however, is still cold. If the evaporator fan isn’t spinning properly, it has to be replaced. Additionally, if the evaporator fan is making a lot of noise, you should replace it as well.

Hard Reset Refrigerator

Sometimes giving your electronics a hard reset can work wonders. You might want to give it a try with your fridge when all else fails or before even trying anything else because it could very well solve the issue at hand. Follow these steps to reset your Samsung fridge:

  1. Please turn off the fridge and then unplug it from the power outlet.
  2. Wait a little while. Theories on how long to wait exactly differ from 15 minutes up to 24 hours. You could try around 15 minutes first, and if that didn’t do the trick, you could always try 24 hours next.
  3. You have given the fridge a moment to reboot and reset. You can now plug the refrigerator back into the power outlet and turn it on. Hopefully, it works properly again, and you don’t need to seek any more help to figure out what’s going on with your fridge.

Final Thoughts

It’s no fun having technical issues with your essential home appliances because you use them all the time. Luckily, Samsung fridges are developed so that there are simple solutions that work most of the time for most cases.
