Smart TV Won’t Play Hulu

If you are able to download the Hulu app, install it without a problem, log in with your personal information, and see all available content from within the app, you may be surprised when you go to play a particular title and cannot move forward. When a title won’t play within Hulu on your smart TV, you are left wondering what caused such a problem as well as faced with the task of having to fix it. If your smart TV won’t play Hulu, what will help to resolve the issue quickly?

If your smart TV won’t play Hulu, first, simply try closing completely out of the app and reentering. To do this, exit out of the app completely and be certain it is no longer running. Once this is confirmed, close out of any other running apps you have on your smart TV and re-enter Hulu again.

Once you have closed out of the app and re-enter it, try playing a title to see if the function is restored. If it is not and you were playing the same title that you were previously playing, go out of this title and attempt to play another title within the app. If you are able to play another title, the problem exists within the first title you were attempting to play. If this is the case, report the issue with that specific title to Hulu and play something else until the issue is resolved.

If the issue is not limited to only one title and you are not able to play any other shows or movies within Hulu, check to make sure that the app is not in need of any firmware updates. This process will differ depending on the smart TV make and model that you have, but the general steps typically include exiting out of the app, highlighting or hovering over the app, then waiting for a drop-down box to appear that will reveal the option to update Hulu if an update is available.

Smart TV Hulu Not Loading/Opening

If you own a smart TV, the process of getting into Hulu should be relatively simple and should only take a few seconds when all is working as it should. When you go to open the Hulu app, there will likely be a loading process that takes a few seconds as the content on the app is made available to you. If you go to open Hulu on your smart TV and notice that the app will not load and thus, not open, take a look below to see what you can do to restore proper function.

If Hulu is not loading or opening on your smart TV, one of the most common problems lies within the function of your network. Such issues are typically resolved by resetting the network by unplugging your router from its power outlet, allowing it to sit for 60 seconds, then plugging it back in.

Once you have plugged the router back in, allow it to completely reboot before attempting to open the Hulu app again on your smart TV. After the network has been reset, if Hulu is still not loading or opening, try uninstalling and reinstalling the app on your TV. Simply delete the app from your smart TV, find Hulu once again from within your apps, then reinstall the app. You will then be prompted to enter your login information if the app loads and opens accordingly.

If you have reset your network as well as uninstalled and reinstalled the app, but the app is still not loading or opening, try performing a power cycle on your smart TV. To do this, unplug your TV directly from its power source and allow it to sit without power for at least one minute. While you do this, hold down the power button on the TV itself for 5 seconds to drain it completely of power and once the minute has passed, plug your device back in to see if Hulu is working.

Hulu Not Connecting On Smart TV

If you are able to download and install Hulu on your smart TV, can enter your user information and can open the app without any problems during the loading and opening stages, you may be surprised to find that the app is not connecting once you enter into the application. Smart TVs afford users the ability to run apps off of a network and Hulu is one of those apps that needs a reliable connection to function. If Hulu is not connecting on your smart TV, read below.

If Hulu is not connecting on your smart TV, it could be that your network speed is not sufficient. To stream content from Hulu on a smart TV, you must have sufficient internet speed. This can be tested by performing a speed test online with a separate device.

The recommended speed for Hulu’s streaming library is 3.0 Mbps, is 8.0 for any live-streamed events, and is 16.0 Mbps for all 4K content. Once you see your network speed and know the type of smart TV and content you are trying to stream, you can move forward with changing your network specifications to fit the exact needs of the app and content within it.

If you see that you have the appropriate network speed but are still not able to get the app to connect to your network, check to make sure that your smart TV is, in fact, connected to a network. Through your settings, confirm that a network connection is present. If you see that your smart TV is connected, try resetting your network, which can be found in the previous section titled “Smart TV Hulu Not Loading/Opening.”
