Viewsonic Monitor Not Working

There are many issues that could lead to a Viewsonic monitor not working. Diagnosing the problem will often lead to the easiest solution.

The most common reasons that a Viewsonic monitor is not working include power problems, using damaged or outdated cables, or a problem with the graphics card. Try plugging in the monitor directly to the wall receptacle and inspect the cables. Doing so will yield the best results.

Many of the issues associated with this problem may be easy to fix, but you will need to check carefully through the various potential problems. Consider the following when trying to get the monitor working properly.

Viewsonic Monitor Not Working

Viewsonic Power Problems – One of the most common (and often overlooked) problems with a monitor that doesn’t work is an issue with the power. After all, we may have many items plugged in and the monitor may be the only one that is experiencing problems.

Check for power problems by taking the following steps:

  • Tripped Breaker – If the breaker has tripped, nothing will get power. There may also be smaller breakers other than the one that is in the breaker panel, such as on the UPS or on the power strip. Reset any tripped breakers.
  • Power Strip – Like everyone else, you probably feel that a power strip is the most convenient device in the home. It is also one that is prone to problems. Skip the power strip and try plugging the monitor directly into the wall receptacle.
  • Wall Receptacle – If the wall receptacle has failed, then power will not be supplied to whatever is plugged into it. It is also possible for half of the receptacle to be off and the other half to be on. Test the receptacle with a lamp or another device.
  • Power Cable – Inspect the power cable that is used by the Viewsonic monitor. Make sure it is free of defects and it properly inserted, both into the monitor and into the receptacle.

Try Booting into BIOS – There may be a driver issue or another problem that is causing your Viewsonic monitor to stop working. These issues can be diagnosed in the settings menu in BIOS.

Boot into Safe Mode – When you boot your computer in safe mode, you are skipping many of the unnecessary drivers and background apps that can cause problems.

Update Drivers – There may be drivers to both the video card and the monitor that could use updated. You can check in the settings of the computer or on the website associated with the components.

Try Win Key + P – If you are using the Viewsonic monitor as a second monitor, try pressing the Windows Key + P. Doing so brings up the display settings for a second monitor.

Check the Cables – Unplug the cables the connect the Viewsonic monitor with the computer. If they are damaged or if they haven’t been replaced in years, get some new cables. HDMI has been updated numerous times to keep up with advancing technology.

Hard Restart – Sometimes, doing a hard restart of our computer along with a restart of the monitor can help. Restart the monitor by turning it off (press the power button) and unplugging it for a few minutes.

You can restart your computer properly by following these steps:

  1. Remove the battery (if using a laptop)
  2. Fully shut down the computer
  3. Unplug the power cable (both ends)
  4. Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds to drain power
  5. Wait 5 minutes
  6. Reinsert the battery and plug in the computer
  7. Plug in the monitor
  8. Restart the computer

Viewsonic Monitor No Signal

When there is no signal to the Viewsonic monitor, nothing will happen. Take these steps to get it working again.

The most common reason why a Viewsonic monitor has no signal is that it is ignoring the PC output from the graphics card. This can be due to a faulty graphics card or because the cable used to connect the monitor is damaged or outdated.

Visually inspect the cables for any damage, especially where they attach to the ends. If wires are showing or if the cable is cracked or cut, it should be replaced.

Older cables should not be used for newer monitors. The technologies do not always line up and the monitor may not receive a signal.

Make sure you are connecting the monitor to the appropriate port on the computer. DVI is preferred and, in some cases, you will need a DVI to HDMI converter.

One other thing to try is booting the computer in safe mode. When the computer is starting up, repeatedly hit the F8 key when the windows screen appears. Choose boot in safe mode from the menu.

When you boot in safe mode, you are not loading many of the unnecessary background programs and drivers that could cause a conflict with the monitor signal.

Viewsonic Monitor Not Turning On

You might be surprised with how easy it is to fix a Viewsonic monitor that stubbornly refuses to turn on.

Common reasons why a Viewsonic monitor will not turn on include damaged or outdated cables, damaged power cables, and using a faulty or overloaded power strip. After giving all cables a good inspection and replacing any that are damaged, plug the monitor directly into the wall outlet.

Sometimes, problems with the computer will cause problems with the monitor. Shutting the computer down properly will help to remove the bottleneck that may be causing such issues.

Restart the computer by fully shutting it down and unplugging all cables. Remove the battery if you are using a laptop.

Some of the internal components will retain power so hold the power button for 30 seconds to drain those components. Do not restart the computer for at least 5 minutes.

Plug the computer in, reinstall the battery and connect the Viewsonic monitor. Press the power button and see if the monitor is recognized when the computer restarts.

Viewsonic Monitor No Power

Do you have no power to your Viewsonic monitor? Try the following steps to fix the problem.

Faulty or outdated cables are often at the root of power problems when a monitor is not working properly. Look the cables over carefully and inspect the ports on the monitor. Replace damaged cables. Outdated cables should also be replaced as the older cables might not be up to running newer monitors.

It is not uncommon for cables to fail, even if you don’t move them around and treat them abusively. They just tend to fail over time because of use, so inspecting them is always a good idea.

The technology has also changed, particularly when it comes to HDMI. Since the ViewSonic monitor is likely newer technology, you will need to have an HDMI cable that can pass along enough signal that it will work properly.

Most people don’t realize that the cables between the computer and the monitor can affect if the monitor turns on or not. It isn’t always a problem with the power, but it is often a problem with one of the cables.

Viewsonic Monitor Not Full Screen

We want to use every inch of our monitor. After all, that’s why we buy a big monitor rather than a small one! Here’s how to fix yours if you are not seeing things full screen.

The F11 key on the keyboard is the most common way to fix a problem with anything to do with a full screen. Holding down the F11 key will make any program full screen and sometimes, it may also force things to use more of the monitor screen.

Software conflicts can lead to problems with a monitor not showing full screen. Press ctrl + alt + del and enter into the task manager. You will be able to see all programs that are open.

You can also see any programs that are running by pressing the Alt key along with the Tab key. Close all programs one at a time to see if you can determine which is causing the problem.

Viewsonic Monitor Keeps Blinking On And Off

It can be frustrating when our monitor continually blinks on and off. There is a way to correct it that is relatively easy.

The monitor cable is the common problem that causes a monitor to blink. That is especially true of DVI cables, which have screws to hold them in place. If the cables are a little loose, they can cause vibrations that cause the monitor to flicker.

The graphics card can sometimes cause problems. You can check the graphics card in BIOS as well as through the Windows control panel.

If you are experiencing problems with your graphics card, update the drivers. You may also need to get an external graphics card.

Viewsonic Monitor Sound Not Working

If you’re trying to use sound through your ViewSonic monitor, it may fail for numerous reasons. Here are the most common.

Generally speaking, if the monitor volume is turned down or muted, there will be no sound. Check the settings on the computer in the tray next to the clock. You can also verify that you have it set to the ViewSonic sound system, rather than to your internal speakers.

An easy way to check if it is a problem with the settings is to test another speaker. Plugging in an external speaker and switching over to it will often reveal the problem.

You might also have to go into the sound settings by right-clicking on the speaker icon in the tray. After you’re in the sound settings, you can switch to the ViewSonic monitor speakers.

When a ViewSonic monitor is not working, it is often a power problem. Disconnect all cables, including the cable between the computer and the monitor. Inspect them for any damage and if they are damaged or older, they should be replaced. You may also need to restart the computer fully to get the monitor working again.
