Samsung Monitor Flashing Fixes

Our monitors are probably the most underappreciated of all of our electronics. We take for granted how much they are used. When the monitor starts flashing, it can quickly send us into a panic.

You can fix a Samsung monitor that is flashing by installing any pending software updates, updating the graphics drivers, tightening any loose cable connections to the monitor, switching from an HDMI connection to a DVI connection.

A flashing monitor does not always mean the monitor needs to be replaced but it does require some investigation work. This article will give you some suggestions to help you diagnose what the real issue is.

How To Fix Samsung Monitor Screen Flashing On And Off

A flashing monitor not only makes you nauseous but also ruins your day. Here are some ways to determine if the issue is with the monitor itself.

A Samsung monitor blinking on and off can often be attributed to a problem with the power supply. If the monitor’s power cable is loose or the power supply is unstable, it can cause intermittent flickering. Ensure the power cable is securely plugged into both the monitor and the wall outlet. If the issue persists, try a different power outlet or replace the power cable to see if it resolves the problem.

Another cause for a Samsung monitor blinking on and off could be an issue with the monitor’s settings. Sometimes, incorrect brightness or contrast settings can cause flickering. Reset the monitor settings to default. This can be done through the monitor’s on-screen menu. Navigate to the settings and look for an option to reset or restore default settings. This action can often resolve any configuration-related issues causing the blinking.

Graphics driver issues in your computer can also lead to a Samsung monitor blinking on and off. Outdated or corrupted graphics drivers might not communicate effectively with the monitor. To fix this, update your computer’s graphics drivers. You can do this through your computer’s device manager or by downloading the latest drivers from the graphics card manufacturer’s website. An update can resolve compatibility issues and stop the flickering.

Samsung Monitor Flashing Different Colors

A variety of colors is usually a beautiful and welcomed sight. But it is not pleasant or wanted when the flashing of different colors is on our monitor.

If your Samsung monitor is flashing different colors, the current graphics driver is outdated or the refresh rate is set too low. Go to the Samsung website to install the current graphics drivers. Adjust the refresh rate to match the monitor standard.

Typically Samsung monitors come with the correct settings chosen and any updates are automatically installed. Sometimes when new external devices are connected to the monitor or there was a recent power outage, these changes can affect the performance of the monitor.

Update Graphics Drivers

Graphics drivers are software that allows your computer’s operating system to function at its best, giving you the best performance in graphics-intensive tasks.

There are two ways to locate and update the graphics drivers for your computer and monitor. The first way is by rebooting the monitor.

You can boot the monitor into Safe Mode by pressing F8 or rebooting the system multiple times to force an Automatic Repair. Your monitor will notify you when the Automatic Repair is taking place and it is in self-diagnostic mode.

When prompted, follow these listed steps:

Step 1: Click on ‘Advanced Options’.

Step 2: Click on ‘Troubleshoot’.

Step 3: Click on ‘Advanced Options’.

Step 4: Click on ‘Startup Settings’.

Step 5: Click on ‘Restart’.

Step 6: Click on ‘Enable Safe Mode or Enable Safe Mode with Networking’, your choice. The monitor will automatically restart.

Step 7: Once the monitor restarts, go to ‘Device Manager’.

Step 8: Scroll down to ‘Display Adapters’.

Step 9: Select ‘Disable the listed video drivers’.

Step 10: Restart your computer.

Step 11: Once the computer restarts, go to the Samsung main page and reinstall the video/graphics drivers.

Adjust Refresh Rate

Screens today can refresh at a rate up to 100 times per second or more. The flashing you see on screen is actually of the image being erased and redisplayed so rapidly that all you can see is the flashing.

Step 1: Go to your monitors’ Display Settings.

Step 2: Select ‘Advanced Display Settings’.

Step 3: Click on ‘Display Adapter Properties’.

Step 4: Click on the ‘Monitor’ tab.

Step 5: Select ‘Adjust The Refresh Rate’. Adjust the refresh rate to the maximum setting your monitor can support.

Display Settings

Display settings are how we adjust the screen to our liking. We can change the color, brightness, and contrast of the images on the monitor. Some settings can cause the monitor to flash.

To adjust the display settings you first need to go to your computer graphics card. The graphics card can be found in the ‘Device Manager’ setting. For most computers, NVIDIA Control Panel is the graphic card being used.

Open the graphics card and select ‘Change Resolution’. Next, select the monitor you are experiencing issues with.

Make sure the refresh rate is at least 60Hz but ideally it needs to be whatever your monitor is programmed to support. For example, if you have a 100Hz monitor, that is the setting you need to select.

Here are the steps if you prefer to go through Windows 10.

Step 1: Go to ‘Settings’.

Step 2: Go to ‘System’.

Step 3: Select ‘Advanced Display Settings’.

Step 4: Select ‘Display Adapter Properties for Display 1’.

Step 5: Click on ‘Monitor’.

Step 6: Adjust the refresh rate according to your computer specs.

Samsung Monitor Flashing Red Light

Does your Samsung monitor have a flashing red light, making you feel like a cyborg is in your house? Here is the reason why the monitor has a flashing red light.

Generally speaking, Samsung monitors will have a flashing red light when there is an inconsistent power supply. Plug the monitor into another outlet to determine if the outlet is the issue. Use a UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) for a steady supply of power.

The flashing red light is typically the result of a surge in electricity to the monitor that has resulted in a component within the monitor shorting out.

The affected component could be the result of damage to the power cord, the power board inside the monitor that converts electricity from the wall outlet into a voltage the monitor can support, or the LED backlight strip behind the monitor.

These issues can be repaired at home if you have the tools and soldering skills needed. Otherwise, it might be best to take the monitor to a repair shop or replace it altogether.

Samsung Monitor Blue Light Flashing

Blue is typically a calming color but when it is coming from your monitor, there is nothing calming about that. There are two reasons why your monitor has a flashing blue light.

If your Samsung monitor has a blue light flashing, the monitor is in Protection Mode. An issue within the internal circuits or voltage error will cause the monitor to run a self-diagnostic, putting the monitor in protection mode.

When a monitor is in self-diagnostic mode, it is because we gave it the command to run a scan. When the monitor is doing the test on its own, this means something requires our immediate attention.

Other possible reasons for your monitor to go into protection mode include a faulty LCD Digital Controller board, a faulty inverter board, a blown capacitor on the power board, or a faulty input board.

All of these possibilities will require a qualified technician to do the repairs or it may be time to replace the monitor all together. Oftentimes these repairs cost more than a new monitor.

Samsung Monitor Flashing Red Blue Green

Even though the Samsung monitor is an electronic device, it is definitely a smart device. The hardware inside the monitor enables it to communicate to use when there is an issue.

The main way the monitor notifies us of an issue is by flashing different colors. Whether the monitor is in protection mode, has a low refresh rate, or is not getting enough power, the different colors let us know where to start troubleshooting the issue.

For example, if the monitor is flashing red, blue, and green, the issue could be with the DVI cable. If your Samsung monitor requires a dual-link DVI but you are using a regular DVI cable, the monitor will not receive any signals from the cable and it will go into diagnostic mode.

If your Samsung monitor is flashing red, blue, green, the monitor’s graphics drivers need to be updated. Adjust the refresh rate. Turn off Energy Saving mode. Inspect HDMI and DVI cables for any signs of damage. Make sure the cables are securely inserted into the correct ports.
