Samsung Monitor No Sound/Audio Not Working

You have your setup just right. You turn on the Samsung monitor. The picture is crisp but there is no audio. Before you throw the monitor across the room, here are some reasons why your Samsung monitor has no sound/audio.

If your Samsung monitor has no sound/audio, do a sound test by going to ‘Support’ > ‘ Self Diagnosis’ > ‘Sound Test’. Check the volume setting on the monitor. If using external speakers, make sure the correct default audio setting has been selected.

A monitor without audio can be frustrating. This article will help you determine what the issue is for your specific setup and how you can resolve the issue.

Samsung Monitor No Sound HDMI

HDMI cables are commonly used when connecting monitors and TVs to external speakers. HDMI cables are designed to support large quantities of digital audio and video signals. What does it mean when there is no sound with the HDMI cable?

If your Samsung monitor has no sound using an HDMI connection, check to see if the HDMI device has been disabled. If the device has been disabled, click ‘Enable’ and then run a sound test. If the device is not listed, unplug the HDMI cable and then reconnect.

Restarting the device after enabling the HDMI connection will refresh everything. It is also important to look for any pending Samsung updates. Outdated software data can affect the audio setting and quality.

Select the Output Device

Oftentimes, when connecting multiple devices together, the main audio output device needs to be selected and set as the default device. Check the settings with the Samsung monitor or other device to see which device is set to default.

When connecting external speakers, the audio settings within the monitor need to be adjusted. If the monitor and external speakers are not isolated, the audio will have nowhere to go, resulting in no sound.

Samsung Monitor No Sound DisplayPort

Displayport for the monitor

When using DisplayPort to connect your Samsung monitor to another device, you get more bandwidth than with an HDMI cable for transmitting audio and video signals. What does it mean when there is no audio?

If your Samsung monitor has no sound with DisplayPort, make sure the device you are connected to is not defaulting to another audio source. Make sure the DisplayPort cable is connected to the correct port on the monitor.

Depending on the number of external devices you are connecting and where you want the audio to come from, you may need an adapter cable to bridge the gap between your Samsung monitor and the DisplayPort cable.

Samsung Monitor No Sound Xbox

Playing video games using remote control

Xbox is your one-stop-shop for gaming and online streaming services. If you have no sound, though, it doesn’t do you much good.

If your Samsung monitor has no sound using the Xbox, bypass the monitor all together with an external cable. Connect the monitor to the Xbox with an optical cable. Use the HDMI output on the Xbox to connect to an A/V receiver. Connect headphones directly to the controller.

There are a variety of reasons why there is no sound coming from the Samsung monitor when using the Xbox. The most common reason is that the monitor itself does not have speakers. Consult your User’s Manual to see if this is the case.

Software Glitches

Software glitches are common when connecting more than one device together. The best solution for this is to power cycle the Xbox. Power cycling will clear the memory cache and refresh the entire system. Most software glitches are removed with a simple restart.

HDMI Cable or Port

Another possibility is either the HDMI cable or port is defective. HDMI cables are typically very sturdy and last a long time but they are not impervious to wear and tear.

The tiny wires inside the cable can break. Even the pins at the end of the cable can become bent, rendering the cable ineffective. Inspect cable for any signs of damage.

Inspect the HDMI port as well. Dust and dirt can get into the port, making the cable connection unstable.

Check Xbox Sound Settings

Settings are typically what the word implies – set. But sometimes they revert back to previous settings. This commonly happens after a power outage, after an update, or simply after connecting new devices.

The reason your Samsung monitor has no sound could be due to the audio settings within the Xbox, and not the monitor. You can adjust the audio settings in Xbox by following the steps outlined below.

Step 1: Open the Xbox guide.

Step 2: Go to ‘Settings’.

Step 3: Go to ‘All Settings’.

Step 4: Go to ‘Display and Sound’.

Step 5: Go to ‘Audio Output’.

Step 6: Depending on how your Samsung monitor is connected, select either ‘HDMI Audio’ or ‘Optical Audio’.

Step 7: Select the audio format for your setup. If you are unsure of what to select, select ‘Stereo Uncompressed’.

Samsung Monitor No Sound PlayStation

Playing video games using remote control

When you are using your Samsung monitor to connect to a gaming console such as PlayStation, you expect crisp video and clear audio. What can you do if your audio is non-existent?

If your Samsung monitor has no sound when connected to a PlayStation, use an external audio source that connects via HDMI. Make sure your external audio source is the selected default audio source. Stream games using remote play.

Because of the high digital output when connecting a gaming console to a Samsung monitor, make sure the HDMI cable you are using is not old. Older cables do not have the needed bandwidth for new gaming consoles and they are not able to support the amount of data being transmitted.

Samsung Monitor No Sound Windows PC/Computer

Samsung monitors make a great second screen for Windows/PC Computer. If there is no sound coming from the monitor, here is how you can troubleshoot the issue.

If your Samsung monitor has no sound when connected to a Windows/PC Computer, the monitor may be defaulting to the wrong speakers. Right-click on the Sound icon and select ‘Playback Devices’. Select your Samsung monitor and set it as the default speaker.

When troubleshooting audio issues, it’s always a good idea to check the basics. For example, make sure you did not accidentally press the ‘Mute’ button on your keyboard.

If your keyboard does not have a ‘Mute’ button, right-click the speaker icon on the taskbar. Open ‘Volume Mixer’ to unmute the computer here.

Also, make sure the computer speakers are turned off. Audio may be trying to come through the Computer and if it is not recognizing the Samsung monitor, the sound will go nowhere.

Another possibility is if the master sound is too low. Right-click on the speaker icon. Open ‘Volume Mixer’. Adjust the volume setting.

Audio Troubleshoot

After adjusting the device volume, if you continue to have no audio, run the Audio Troubleshooter.

Step 1: Click on the Sound icon again.

Step 2: Go to ‘Settings’.

Step 3: Click on ‘Troubleshoot’.

Step 4: Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the process.

Video Driver

A driver is comprised of files of communication between your PC/Computer operating system that tell your PC/Computer how to function. Each piece of hardware inside your computer requires a driver.

Without a driver, your PC/Computer would not be able to communicate with the devices you connect to it such as the printer, the mouse, and especially not to a second monitor.

Drivers are typically installed automatically. When a new device is connected to your PC/Computer, the operating system goes to work trying to locate the appropriate driver. If you do not receive a notification that the new device is ready for use, you will need to manually install the driver.

You can search your PC/Computer library for a driver for the Samsung monitor but the best place is to go to the Samsung official website and search for your monitor. Samsung offers a feature called Driver Easy that will automatically search for and install the driver you need.

Step 1: Download and install Driver Easy from the Samsung website.

Step 2: Run Driver Easy.

Samsung Monitor Speakers Not Working

Samsung electronics have a reputation for providing enjoyable entertainment. Part of the enjoyment is the clear audio its speakers produce.

Some Samsung monitors do not have speakers. The monitor is designed to function as a video display only but it does come with cables that allow the monitor to have sound pass through to an external speaker source.

To ensure there is quality sound, Samsung monitors come with a stereo cable that needs to be connected along with an HDMI cable. Depending on the port you use, the HDMI cable will only transmit audio or video.
