When it comes to using a Firestick, there are certain apps that come automatically downloaded to the device and some that will need to be searched for, downloaded, and installed on their own, one of these apps being YouTube. This process should only take a few minutes at the most and the app should be easily found by searching for the app from the home screen of Firestick. However, what can you do if YouTube won’t download or install?

If YouTube won’t download or install on your Firestick, check to make sure that your network connection is not the issue. If you think this may be the problem, consider resetting your network by unplugging the router, allowing it to sit for 60 seconds, then plugging it back in.

Once you have unplugged your router directly from the power source, have allowed it to sit for long enough, and have plugged it back in, you will then need to give it plenty of time to completely reboot before navigating back to the Firestick. Once you are at the home screen of Firestick, search for YouTube, select the app, and try once more to download it. If the download progresses, you should be able to move forward with installation as well.

Firestick is a streaming device and thus, the items which you use within this device are streamed as well, which means that you have to have some type of network connection in order to render such apps useful. Once you are able to get to the network settings within your TV and can see if your TV is connected to the internet, you can then move forward with other troubleshooting steps. If there is a network connection but you still aren’t able to play YouTube, try resetting your router (this can be found in the previous section titled “Firestick YouTube Won’t Download or Install.”

If you reset your network and find that YouTube still will not play, you need to check and see if the problem is limited to one particular video. Find another video to play within the app and tap the play button to see if the content starts. If it does, this means that there was an issue with the title you were previously trying to play, which should be reported to YouTube. Once reported, watch other videos until the problem is resolved.

YouTube App Not Showing Up/Available On Firestick

Angry man while watching tv

When purchasing a Firestick, many are under the impression that they should be able to access any application that is in existence. Although this would be great in theory, the Firestick is still limited when it comes to the applications that are available through its services, although the app list is still quite prolific. With one very common application being YouTube, what might be the issue if the app isn’t showing up or isn’t available on your Firestick?

If the YouTube app isn’t showing up or isn’t available on your Firestick, you may need to actively search for the app to find it within the available options. To do this, go to ‘Apps’ from the Firesticks home screen, go to ‘Social Media,’ then select YouTube.’

You can also try searching for YouTube by voice searching for the app if you have Alexa within your Firestick remote. To do this, simply press the “Alexa” button on the remote control and say “YouTube” so the app appears on your screen. Once you see the app, select it and follow the on-screen instructions to download and install the app. YouTube was removed from Firesticks in 2018, but was made available again in 2021, giving all Firestick owners the ability to download.

When you are in the middle of using YouTube on your Firestick, the most basic expectation is that the video should play without interruption. Although this is typically the case for most users, some Firestick owners have found that when they are in the middle of using YouTube, it either crashes or freezes continually. If you are still experiencing problems with the app freezing and crashing, make sure you are using the official app to watch. If you are using a third-party app or have multiple generic apps downloaded to your Firestick, this can cause apps to slow, freeze, and crash, which means they should be deleted.

Knowing that YouTube is a streamed application, you then know that you have to have the app connected to the internet. Internet connection is essential, as without it, you cannot access the different operations of a Firestick and even more, the operations of YouTube. Therefore, if YouTube is not connecting to your Firestick, what are a few things you can do to get the app up and running on your device?

To do this, navigate to the ‘Settings’ and click on ‘Network’ where you will be able to choose the network of your choice. If you are not connected, enter your network login information to connect.

If you have the option to choose from two different networks such as a 5G or 2G network, be sure to connect to the 5G network, as this is often a more stable option. Once you have connected to the proper network, allow some time for the connection to establish and then try again to open YouTube. If the connection is successful, you should either be met with the login screen of YouTube or you will be taken to the home screen of the app you’ve already logged into.

Firestick YouTube Sound Not Working

Confused couple while watching tv

You may not be experiencing issues with YouTube not connecting or loading, as you might be able to get into the app and start playing content. However, some users have found that once they start playing videos with the app, sound doesn’t work as it should. Of course, the picture of YouTube videos is an essential part of the viewing experience, but what do you do when the sound suddenly stops working?

If you have a Firestick and the sound is not working on YouTube, first, be sure to check that you have all devices unmuted with any remote controls that have access to the volume. Once you have confirmed this, check that the video itself has not been muted from within the app.

If you can confirm that neither the TV nor video has been accidentally muted, try playing another video from within the app. If you hear any sound coming from another video, then the problem is likely limited to the previous video you were trying to play. If this is the case, report the issue to YouTube and find another video to watch while YouTube resolves the issue.

If YouTube isn’t working on your Firestick, try clearing the cache of the app, update the app by enabling the option of automatic updates within your Firestick, confirm that the Firestick is connected to a network, and connect to a 5G network if available.
