Most of us consider our Frigidaire dishwasher to be the most convenient item we have in our home. Anytime it is on the fritz, we want to repair it as quickly as possible.
In most cases, A clogged or broken spray arm is to blame when a Frigidaire dishwasher is not working. The spray arm can be operated manually to check if it is blocked. It can be removed, cleaned, and visually inspected. Replace the spray arm if necessary.
Although a dishwasher is a relatively common appliance, it is one that deserves our respect when we work on it. Always keep safety in mind when you are working with anything with moving parts or electricity.
Generally speaking, you will be able to repair your Frigidaire dishwasher on your own. If you run into a situation where you are uncomfortable, you can contact a repairman.
Frigidaire Dishwasher Not Working
There is a difference between your Frigidaire dishwasher not working and it not working properly. Let’s investigate both of those problems and what may be wrong.
If your dishwasher is not receiving power, it will not work. Check the breaker box for a tripped breaker and reset if necessary. You should also make sure that the receptacle is still working and visually inspect the power cord to the dishwasher to make sure it isn’t damaged.
If you have reset the breaker and it continues to trip, there may be additional problems that need to be addressed. Unplug the dishwasher and see if the breaker stops tripping. If it trips without anything plugged into it, contact an electrician right away.
You should also be cautious about overloading the circuit. A dishwasher should ideally be on its own circuit with a 20 amp breaker.
Frigidaire Dishwasher Not Cleaning/Washing
If your dishwasher is not cleaning properly, the solution is often easy to fix.
A problem with your door latch or switch may sometimes stop the dishwasher from cleaning or washing the dishes. The door switch signals the control board that the door is closed and the dishwasher can run. If it is faulty, the dishwasher will stop operating.
Sometimes, you need to clean the dishwasher. In fact, this should be a regular part of your cleaning routine.
Although dishwashers are used to clean other items, they should be cleaned thoroughly. Look for debris that has built up on the bottom of the dishwasher and clean the filters. You can also run an empty load with some white vinegar in the water.
If your dishwasher is not draining properly, the wash cycle will also not work. It will continue to recirculate dirty water inside the dishwasher.
Check for a clogged drain hose or a problem with the garbage disposal. Make sure that the air gap has not become clogged and that the drain valve in the dishwasher is working.
At times, you may end up with an interrupted cycle. This happens when the dishwasher door is opened or if the power is interrupted.
Your dishwasher has a memory and it will want to start the cycle where it last left off. It may also get confused at times.
You can reset the dishwasher by holding down the cancel button for a few seconds. You can also disconnect the dishwasher by unplugging it or turning off the breaker, waiting 60 seconds, and turning it back on. Doing so will often correct the issue.
Frigidaire Dishwasher Does Not Complete Cycle
Unless your dishwasher works through all the cycles, your dishes are not going to be clean and dry. Here is how to fix an interrupted cycle.
When the door opens, a safety feature causes the dishwasher to stop operating. If the door switch is malfunctioning, the dishwasher will think the door is open, even when it is closed. Another issue may be the door latch that allows the door to open slightly and interrupts the cycle.
Sometimes, you need this restart the machine to start it working again properly. A dishwasher has a memory and it will want to start the cycle at the point of interruption.
Try a simple reset by pushing the cancel button and holding it in for a few seconds. The pump should start working and the dishwasher should drain.
You can also reset a dishwasher by unplugging it or turning off the breaker. Wait at least 60 seconds before you reestablish power to the dishwasher. This will allow the dishwasher to start from the beginning of the cycle.
One other thing to consider is the dishwasher settings. Get familiar with the settings and make sure that you are choosing the proper cycle selection. Your dishwasher may include a quick cycle or pre-rinse selection that was pushed accidentally.
Frigidaire Dishwasher Not Getting Any Water
There is often a simple solution when you are not getting water to your dishwasher. It could be either internal or external.
Check the water valve and make sure it is operating properly. It can be worked by hand to ensure it is not jammed. There may also be filter screens that have become clogged with debris or the area around the valve is dirty.
Another issue that may sometimes be overlooked is that the water is turned off at the source. In most homes, there is a water valve under the kitchen sink that is dedicated to the dishwasher.
Make sure that the valve is turned fully on and is not malfunctioning. It may have been turned off when you were doing other work under the sink.
The water hose is fairly rigid but it is still possible for it to get bent or pinched. This typically happens during the installation process but it may happen at any time. Make sure that the hose is flowing freely.
There is a float switch in the dishwasher that lets the dishwasher know it is full. If the float switch is stuck in the up position, it will not allow water to enter the dishwasher.
Frigidaire Dishwasher Not Getting Enough Water
A number of moving parts are associated with the water coming into the dishwasher. Check the following when you are getting some water but not enough.
There is a water valve filter screen that should be checked and cleaned on a periodic basis. If it is clogged in any way, it will stop the water from flowing into the dishwasher at full capacity. The water inlet valve may also be to blame.
A few other issues may be associated with not getting enough water into the dishwasher. Consider the following:
Water hose – If the water hose is pinched, it may let some water through but not enough.
Float Assembly – This is associated with the switch that alerts the dishwasher if it is full of water. If the float assembly is stuck in the up position, you may not get enough water.
Door Switch – If the door switch is faulty, it will stop the dishwasher from fully filling with water. Anytime the switch alerts the dishwasher that the door is open, the cycle will stop.
Water Pressure – Check the water pressure in the home. You may want to try running the dishwasher at night to see if it works better.
Frigidaire Dishwasher Not Responding
It can be frustrating when your dishwasher is not responding to any input on your end. The solution may be at your fingertips.
An issue with the touchpad ribbon cable may be to blame. If the dishwasher is not responding when you press start, you can inspect the control pad and touchpad ribbon cable. If the connection is bad or if there is any damage to the cable, it should be replaced.
Are there any lights or an error code? If it is not responding but you still have some power to the unit, it may be telling you what is wrong.
Research any error code using your user manual or check it online.
If there is no power, make sure that the breaker didn’t trip or that the receptacle doesn’t need to be replaced. Otherwise, you may need to call an electrician.
The thermal fuse is another part that could cause the dishwasher to be unresponsive. It stops the dishwasher from working if it detects the temperature is too high.
Frigidaire Dishwasher Not Spraying Water
When you don’t have any water spraying in your Frigidaire dishwasher, the dishes are not going to get clean. It may be frustrating but it is usually easy to fix.
Check the pump to see if the area is clogged. You should also clean the filter, as it may stop the water from flowing to the spray arms.
Something else that you may want to consider checking is the spray arm itself. A visual inspection may show you that it is damaged or removing it and cleaning it may allow the water to start flowing again.
If there is an issue with the spray arm gasket, it may also not allow enough pressure for the arms to spray properly.
Is there something blocking the spray arm? Try running an empty cycle or one with items that fit neatly in the basket and see if it works.
Frigidaire Dishwasher Not Spinning
The spray arms spin to ensure that all of the dishes are cleaned equally. If they are not spinning, very few of the dishes will get clean.
If you don’t have enough water in the dishwasher, it will not have enough pressure to spin the spray arms. This is often associated with the float valve. A defective float valve will not allow more water to enter the dishwasher.
Check for any dishes that may be blocking the spray arm. Spin it manually to make sure it isn’t seized.
Frigidaire Dishwasher Bottom Arm Not Spinning
In order to get your dishes as clean as possible, the bottom arm must spin. Not only does it clean the dishes on the bottom rack but it can also help clean the dishes on the top rack.
If the bottom arm has become clogged with debris or is damaged, it may no longer span. Remove the arm from the dishwasher and inspect it. Take it apart and clean it thoroughly. If, after replacing it, it still does not work it may be a seal.
One of the other issues that can result in the bottom arm not spinning is for dishes to be in the way. It is important to put the dishes in the dishwasher properly. If something falls to the bottom rack it may block the arm from spinning.
In order to check this, try running an empty load. You could also try manually spinning the arm to see if it is a water pressure issue or a mechanical issue.
Frigidaire Dishwasher Top Spray Arm Not Spinning
The top spray arm in your Frigidaire dishwasher works to clean the dishes on the top rack. The rinsing action of the water will also help with the lower rack.
If any debris is clogging the spray arm, it will not spin properly. It must have an appropriate in and out water pressure for it to work. Remove the spray arm, take it apart and clean it thoroughly.
If dishes are in the way, this could stop your upper spray arm from spinning. It’s a common problem with the top rack.
Try manually turning the spray arm while the dishes are in place. Keep in mind that some dishes may shift when the dishes are being washed.
If the seal to the spray arm is not working, it will not have the proper pressure to cause the spray arm to spin. Check the seal for damage and repair if possible.
Finally, if water is not getting to the spray arm, it will not spin. Make sure that you have not disconnected the water. If the pump is not working properly, it can also reduce the spinning action of the upper spray arm.
Frigidaire Dishwasher Not Turning Off
It’s always nice when our dishwasher turns on. We know that our dishes are getting clean but it can be stressful if the dishwasher is not turning off.
The reason why a dishwasher is not turning off is because of a bad timer. If the timer motor is faulty, it will continually run. It may even run with the door open. Unplug the dishwasher, turn off the circuit breaker, and test the motor for continuity.
If the heating element is not working, the dishwasher may be stuck in the heating cycle. To check the heating element, visually inspect it for burnt spots or cracks. Replace if needed.
One other thing to consider is if the control board has become damaged. This may happen for a variety of reasons, including a power surge. You can’t test the control board but you can inspect it for visual signs of damage.
Frigidaire Dishwasher Not Stopping
A dishwasher has a memory and it will remember the cycle that was last being used if it is interrupted. This may be a problem if your dishwasher is not stopping.
When a dishwasher is stuck between cycles, it may not switch from cycle to cycle. It will continue to run until the unit is unplugged or the door is opened. Reset the unit by turning off the power at the source and reconnecting 60 seconds later.
Another issue that could result in a Frigidaire dishwasher not stopping is the float valve. The float valve sends information to the control board about the water level. If it is sending faulty information, the dishwasher may continue to run.
Frigidaire Dishwasher Not Washing Top Rack Dishes
We want all of the dishes in the dishwasher to get clean. That includes the top rack dishes.
A defective or clogged valve is a likely problem if a dishwasher is not cleaning the dishes on the top rack. If the valve is clogged, it can be cleaned but if it is faulty, it must be replaced. Cleaning the inlet valve may damage it so it may need to be replaced in either case.
Take a close look at the upper spray arm. The spray arm may be clogged with debris or it could be damaged.
If some of the dishes are blocking the operation of the upper spray arm, it will not allow the top rack dishes to get clean. Remove the spray arm, inspect it, and give it a thorough cleaning.
The spray arm relies on appropriate water pressure to operate. If you don’t have enough water pressure at your home, you may need to wash your dishes in the middle of the night when no other water is being used.
When the spray arm seal goes bad, it can stop the pressure from building up enough to spin the spray arm. There may also not be enough pressure to properly wash and rinse the dishes.
Frigidaire Dishwasher Not Staying On
There is usually a simple fix to a problem with a dishwasher not staying on. Consider the following possibilities.
If you have power to the dishwasher but it is shutting off early, the door latch or switch needs replaced. If the door is opened or if the switch is bad and the machine thinks the door is open, it will interrupt the cycle periodically.
The thermal fuse may also be a problem that can cause the dishwasher to shut off. It shuts the dishwasher off by design but if it is failing, it may continually break the cycle.
Check the float valve and make sure it is not stuck or clogged with debris. If the float valve is stuck in position, the dishwasher will stop running.
Finally, restart the machine if nothing else works. Turn off the power and wait 60 seconds before turning it back on again.
A Frigidaire washer will stop working if debris has built up in the spray arm or filter. Clean the dishwasher on a periodic basis and look for any debris that may be stopping it from working properly.
