How to Reset JBL Soundbar

JBL makes a wide range of speakers for different purposes such as for a home theater system. They make high quality soundbars, however, from time to time you may need to reset them to fix a particular issue you’re having. In this article, I will explain how to reset a JBL soundbar as well as virtually all of the different JBL soundbars.

Generally, you need to hold down two or three of the buttons on the top of the soundbar until it says reset on the LCD display or the lights blinks different colors depending on the model. Each model has different buttons you need to hold down.

Usually, it’s the last 3 buttons, or the last two buttons. Today, I’ll explain how to reset each of the common JBL soundbars, or where to find the owners manual for each in case your soundbar isn’t listed here.

This article is also a comprehensive guide for how to reset the different audio devices that JBL sells, so if you have other JBL audio devices it’s worth bookmarking this page to come back to later.

How to Reset JBL Soundbar

Although there are many different JBL soundbars there are some common themes for how to reset them. Here’s a good way to start with resetting your JBL soundbar and the most common way to reset one.

First start by powering it down and powering it back up. This is done by pressing and holding the power button. After that’s done try to see if that has fixed the issue you were having. If not, press and hold the power button and the ‘source’ button together for 10 seconds.

Pressing those two buttons is a common way to reset a JBL soundbar but there are other ways, and it varies based on the soundbar. Here’s a table I put together that shows the method to reset each of the different JBL soundbar models:

Important info about the below methods for the remaining soundbars

For the below models and methods, very little info is available for how to reset them. For some the method is clearly described on the JBL website. But, for others various methods have been found from 3rd party sources.

For this reason, some of these methods have the possibility of returning your JBL soundbar to factory settings. If you do not want to return it to factory settings then for the below models contact JBL support and ask them for the specific method for your soundbar.

With that said the below methods have a very good chance of working and have been reported to work. But, because they don’t come from JBL officially they have the chance to factory reset your JBL soundbar or not work at all.

For these methods it’s written in the method next to the soundbar about the need to contact JBL support if it doesn’t work. As is the nature with electronics, new models come out all the time, and older models are no longer supported or only are partially supported so it’s extremely difficult to keep all of the info for all of the soundbars in one place.

When researching how to reset each of the JBL soundbar models I noticed that a lot of the owners manuals for them didn’t state a way to reset them. So, I provided a way that is most likely to work based on my research. But, JBL has live chat support which in my opinion is the fastest way to get in touch with them.

Therefore, if you try a few of the methods and still can’t get it to work you should access the JBL live chat support, here’s a link to access it. The chat window opens on the right of the screen.

How to Reset JBL Soundbar Subwoofer

Mounted TV with soundbar speaker

JBL sells both soundbars on their own and soundbar subwoofer combinations. From time to time you may need to reset your JBL soundbar and subwoofer to try to fix an issue it’s having. Here’s how to do that.

First begin by turning it on and off again to see if this has fixed the issue. If it’s still having the same problem for most models you press and hold the ‘source’, ‘vol+’ and ‘vol-’ buttons on the top of the soundbar until you see “RESET” on the LED display. This resets the soundbar and subwoofer.

I’ve created a table at the top of this article that shows how to reset each of the different soundbar models. This includes some of the soundbar subwoofers. Scroll to the top and use the instructions in the first 2 tables.

If your soundbar isn’t listed there or the above method didn’t work for your soundbar subwoofer combo, then get in touch with JBL support via their official website.

How to Reset JBL Link Soundbar

Mounted TV and soundbar speaker

Link soundbars are a little bit different and have more functionality than other JBL soundbars. When they have connectivity issues or they’re not working as they should, resetting them is a good first step. Here’s how to do that:

JBL only explains how to factory reset JBL link soundbars. So before doing a factory reset try turning your JBL Link soundbar on and off again to see if that solves the issue. If not, the factory reset it on the settings menu. Select ‘device preferences’ and then select ‘reset’.

JBL also makes what are called link portable speakers. These are slightly different to a link soundbar. To reset these you hold down the microphone mute button for 13 seconds.

How to Reset My JBL Soundbar Remote

The remote that comes with JBL soundbars can have a glitch and not be working properly. For these reasons you can need to reset the remote, this is what you want to do:

Take the batteries out and put them back in. Also, if it’s still having an issue then unpair and re-pair it to the bluetooth connection. The exact method for how to do this does vary based on the soundbar model you have so refer to the owners manual for how to unpair and repair the remote.

How to Reset JBL Bar Studio

Remote to soundbar speaker

The JBL Bar studio is one of the soundbars that JBL sells. The way to reset it is a bit different to the other JBL soundbars. Here’s how to do that according to the owner’s manual.

To do a factory reset press and hold the volume down, volume up, and source buttons on the top of the soundbar. Depending on the model the lights will either change color, or it will say ‘Restart’ on the screen at the front of your JBL Bar studio soundbar.

Generally, it will take a short while to restart. It will return to soundbar mode once it has fully reset itself.

How to Reset JBL Bar Surround

Modern clean living room

The JBL Bar surround is a soundbar and subwoofer combo. If it’s not working properly, and needs to be reset, the owner’s manual says here’s how to reset the JBL Bar surround.

To do a normal reset turn it on and off again. To do a factory reset press and hold the power and source button for 10 seconds. The screen will say ‘RESET’, then ‘LOAD’, then ‘READY’. After this has happened it will go into standby mode.

A factory reset will remove all the settings, and paired remotes. So, if you’re having an issue with it, it’s best to do a normal reset first. Then do a factory reset if the normal reset didn’t fix the problem.

How to Reset JBL Bar Deep Bass

The JBL Bar Deep Bass provides deep bass through the subwoofer that comes with it. This soundbar and subwoofer combo can not be connecting to your TV or AV receiver. Or it’s not playing sound. A good first step when you have an issue is to reset it, this is how to do it on a JBL bar deep bass.

To do a ‘soft reset’ that won’t delete any of the settings turn the soundbar on and off again. To do a factory reset that deletes all the settings hold the power and source button on the top of the soundbar. It will show ‘RESET’ on the display to let you know it’s resetting itself.

It will take a minute or two to reset and then return to standby mode. Once it’s done that if the issue you’re having persists generally you need to contact JBL support to see if it needs to be repaired, and whether it’s under warranty. The owner’s manual for it can have some additional steps based on what the specific issue is that you’re having.
