A blank screen on a Trane thermostat is a common issue that occurs. Its causes can range from something easily fixable to an issue that requires an experienced technician to repair. You can do some troubleshooting to get to the heart of the problem.

Remove your Trane thermostat from the wall and check the batteries if you see a blank screen on it. Weak or dead batteries can easily cause the screen to flicker or fail to come on. Replace the batteries and then turn the device on to see if what you did worked.

Another common reason for blank screens on Trane thermostats is a tripped circuit breaker. Thus, the next step is to go where your fuses and circuits are and flip the thermostat’s breaker box to the “Off” position for at least 30 seconds. Put the switch back into the “On” position and see if that resolves your problem.

Another thing to check if you still see a blank screen is the drain pan to the HVAC system itself. Your unit may have a switch that kicks out when an overflow occurs. Take a few minutes to inspect the unit to see if you find a leak. Contact a technician if none of those tactics resolves the issue you’re having. You may need a professional to perform more extensive testing to pinpoint the issue. In some cases, the screens go blank because of dirty components or broken items that only a technician can replace.
