Maytag dishwashers typically work without us even realizing it. But if the dishwasher is now beeping, it could be alerting you to an issue that needs attention.
If your Maytag dishwasher beeping problems, the last cycle memory could be stuck, the dish detergent or rinse aid dispenser needs to be refilled, the water pressure needs to be adjusted, or the door is not tightly closed.
There are a variety of reasons why your Maytag dishwasher is experiencing beeping problems. Whether it is beeping too much or not at all, this article will help you troubleshoot the issue. Let’s get started.
Maytag Dishwasher Keeps Beeping Won’t Start
Is your Maytag dishwasher beeping but not starting? Before you kick the dishwasher to the curb, here is why this is happening.
If your Maytag dishwasher keeps beeping won’t start, the dish detergent or rinse aid dispenser could be empty, the door may not be tightly closed, or the dishwasher is stuck on the last cycle selected. Restart the dishwasher to clear out any errors or old commands.
Maytag dishwashers are designed to run self-diagnostics. If the dishwasher is beeping and not starting, it is alerting you to an issue.
Power Surge
A recent power outage or surge can cause the dishwasher to become stuck on the last cycle. The best way to clear out this error within the control board is to reset the dishwasher.
There are two options to do this. One way is by unplugging the dishwasher for 5 minutes to drain the remaining electricity in the dishwasher.
The second way is by pressing and holding the Start/Reset button for 10 seconds. After 10 seconds, release the button and then let the dishwasher rest for 5 minutes before trying to use it.
Ribbon Cable
The ribbon cable is located inside the display panel and is what connects the touchpad controls to the electronic control board. If the ribbon becomes wet or gets corroded, it will cause the control panel to not work correctly and the dishwasher will beep.
Unfortunately, the ribbon cable itself is not replaceable but you can easily replace the control panel yourself. Consult your User’s Manual to identify the correct panel for your model of Maytag dishwasher.
Broken Timer
The timer in the dishwasher does more than let you know how long you have to wait for clean dishes. It is also part of each cycle programmed within the dishwasher.
Each cycle has a set amount of time. If the timer is broken, the dishwasher will beep because the next cycle cannot start.
You can use a multimeter tool to test the control board to see if this is the case or you can call a Maytag professional to check it out.
Maytag Dishwasher Beeps 3 Times
Do you feel like your dishwasher is communicating to you by morse code? Here is what it is trying to tell you.
If your Maytag dishwasher beeps 3 times, the anti-flood sensor has been activated. The sensor has detected water leaking into the water basin beneath the dishwasher. Check the inlet water valve or drain pump for leaks.
This issue will require some investigative work and possibly the assistance of a qualified plumber. The leak could be something simple such as a loose hose or it is a symptom of a much larger issue such as leaking pipes or water pressure that is too high.
Before calling the plumber though, you can inspect the dishwasher hoses yourself. Another important part to closely inspect is the dishwasher door.
Open Door
The dishwasher door is one of the more crucial components with a dishwasher and for obvious reasons. But it is also the most abused component.
We close it with our hip or foot. The dishwasher door can easily become damaged or misaligned from all that force. If the door cannot close properly, the sensor will not detect that it is closed and the dishwasher will beep.
If the door was opened during the last cycle, the last cycle will be stuck in the dishwasher memory and it will not start a new cycle. To clear out the last cycle, restart the dishwasher.
Door Seal
The door may be closed, but if it does not have a tight seal, the dishwasher will not start and will beep until the issue is resolved. After cleaning the seal around the door, inspect the door hinge. If it is broken or bent, the door will not shut securely.
Also, inspect the screws around the inside of the door. If a screw head is unlevel, the door will not sense it is tightly closed.
Maytag Dishwasher Not Beeping
The dishwasher will typically beep when it has finished a cycle or if something needs our attention. What does it mean when the dishwasher never beeps?
If your Maytag dishwasher is not beeping, the volume setting for notification beeps has been silenced. Pressing the right sequence of buttons will allow you to adjust the volume for the notification beeps.
The first place to start troubleshooting this issue is with the notification volume. You can easily adjust the notification volume yourself.
Step 1: Simultaneously press and hold the Cancel button and the On/Off button together.
Step 2: Continue holding the buttons until the Cancel button illuminates and you hear a beeping sound.
Step 3: After releasing the buttons, press the Cancel button repeatedly until the beeping sound level is the desired volume.
Step 4: Press the On/Off button to save the new setting.
Maytag Dishwasher Quick Wash Beeping
The quick wash setting is great for smaller loads. If the dishwasher keeps beeping during this cycle, here is the reason why.
If your Maytag dishwasher quick wash light is beeping, the spray arm could be obstructed. Rearrange the dishes, moving taller objects to the lower rack, making sure the spray arm can fully rotate unobstructed.
The dishwasher will also beep if excess water is detected in the bottom of the dishwasher. Quick wash cycles use less water than the regular wash cycle so it could signal a deeper problem if excess water is used.
The first place to start troubleshooting is with the water pressure and the inlet valve. If the valve is open too much or the water pressure is too high, too much water will be coming into the dishwasher.
If you are unsure where to start when it comes to checking the water, a qualified plumber can safely diagnose the issue.
Control Board
The control board is what sends your commands to the rest of the dishwasher. If the control board has shorted out or the wires inside have become loose, the Quick Wash setting will beep.
The Control Board can easily be inspected by yourself but if your dishwasher is still under warranty, it is best to call a Maytag professional to diagnose the issue.
Door
The majority of dishwasher issues can be traced back to the door. If the dishwasher is beeping during a cycle, such as the Quick Wash setting, it could also mean the door is not tightly sealed.
The door may be shut but if it was opened once the cycle started or was not locked, the sensor is detecting that the door is still open. Pause the cycle and securely shut the door.
Water Level
Maytag dishwashers have a float valve on the bottom of the dishwasher. The float valve monitors the water level inside the dishwasher. When the float valve is defective the dishwasher will beep.
You can test the float valve by trying to gently lift it up and down. If you hear a slight clicking sound, the float valve is working. No clicking sound means the relay switch is not working and the valve needs to be replaced.
The dishwasher will also beep if the water level is too low. This can happen if the hose becomes kinked or if the water pressure is too low.
If you live in an area with hard water, the build-up of calcium and other minerals can affect the water pressure. Use a water softener or the recommended rinse aid to remove the build-up.
If you suspect the water pressure is the issue, a qualified plumber can safely diagnose the issue.

Maytag Dishwasher Beep When Done
Not all beeping sounds coming from the dishwasher are bad news. One common reason for beeping is if the dishwasher is turning off.
Depending on the model of the Maytag dishwasher you have, the Start or Reset buttons may also flash when it beeps. The beeping should eventually stop and the dishwasher will reset so it can receive any new commands.
Another reason why the dishwasher is beeping when it is done is to let you know it is time for some regular maintenance, such as cleaning the drain pump and the seal around the door.
If your Maytag dishwasher beeps when done, the wash cycle is complete. Opening the door will silence the alert. It will also beep if the pump drain filter is dirty or clogged. Cleaning the filter before starting a new cycle will silence the beeping.
