Miele Vacuum Keeps Clogging (How to Fix)

Vacuuming is a fast and easy way to get your house clean. But over time, it may incur damage from the usual wear and tear. They’re not necessarily cheap too, so immediately replacing it is not always possible. How do you fix a vacuum that keeps clogging?

Keep the hose free of any obstructions. Large pieces of debris can get stuck when suctioned, causing a clog. Instead of forcing them with the vacuum cleaner, pick them out and throw them away. Putting a net over the tip of the hose can help filter out the large pieces of debris.

Keep in mind that vacuum cleaners are intended to suction clean dirty and dusty surfaces. They are not really meant for clearing debris and other small items that may be on the floor.

How to Unclog Miele Vacuum Keeps Clogging

Cleaning the floor using Vacuum

The Miele Upright Vacuum is one of the most popular brands in the market. Known for its powerful cleaning performance, many households prefer this brand for its smooth, efficient work. Keeping your Miele vacuum well-maintained will let you enjoy using it for many years to come.

You’re going to need a pair of bone nose pliers, regular flat-head screwdriver, and a nickel to open up your Miele vacuum. Check the dust bag for any debris or objects that could be causing the clog. It’s also possible that the bag has been punctured, and so the vacuum isn’t suctioning as well.

Check the Dust Bag

The first thing you need to do in case your Miele vacuum gets clogged is to check the dust bag. If it’s not loaded properly inside the housing, the vacuum will not be able to suction efficiently. If it’s been punctured by a sharp object or item from inside, it will not work too.

In case of an obstruction, it’s as simple as taking it out of the way. But if there’s a tear in the dust bag, then this needs to be addressed first before your vacuum can go back to functioning at all.

It’s ideal to clean out the dust bag first before using it. An easy way would be to empty it completely after every use. This way, it’s good and ready to go the next time you need to use it. Take not that the dust and debris particles will tend to form a mass inside the dust bag. Clear any formed dust balls to prevent any blockages inside the system.

Clear the Hose and Wand

The next part you need to check with your Miele vacuum is the hose and wand. These components are located at the back of the vacuum cleaner.

Take them out carefully and look inside to see if there are any visible obstructions. You should be able to see right through the wand, so if you don’t, then it means there’s something blocking the way.

Also check the connectors. At the base of the vacuum, you’ll find a cuff. Turn this counterclockwise and twist to open. Clear out any buildup you might find that could cause clogging.

Here’s where you’ll need the nickel. Check that its part of the vacuum is debris-free by dropping the nickel in it. It should fall all the way through if it’s all clear. Otherwise, it means there’s more buildup to be cleaned out.

Once that’s clear, check the hose, and make sure to do a thorough sweep of it inside. When that’s clear, you can put the hose back on, and then followed by the wand.

Check the Power Brush

There should be a rear port with an access panel that you can open. Use the tools you have if it may be difficult to get loose. The ports may have buildup in them as well, so make sure to clear them out too.

Checking all of these sections is important because a clog in one part can easily turn into a backup throughout the rest of the system.

Clear the Vacuum Brush

Last but not least, you need to check the vacuum brush. You’ll need to turn the vacuum over to access this part, so it’s very important you make sure to unplug the unit first. Tilt the vacuum at an angle to recline it until you can turn it over fully.

Check all sides and every nook and cranny in the brush. There might be debris clogging even the tiniest sections not visible to you. These can cause problems not only with the suction but with the brush itself.

When there’s undue pressure on the brush, it’s going to have to work with double the effort. This can lead to a component breaking, apart from getting an inefficient surface clean.

Once you’ve removed everything as best you could, plug the vacuum back in and turn it on full power mode. Tilt it while holding so you can see that the brush really is moving smoothly and with no hindrance.

Four Reasons Why Your Miele Vacuum Keeps Clogging

Cleaning the floor using Vacuum

Vacuums don’t simply get clogged on their own. In order to prevent it from constantly getting clogged, you need to know what’s causing the problem.

The most common reason your vacuum keeps getting clogged is that it suctions large pieces of debris that don’t fit well in the hose. You can usually hear it when this happens because the hose makes a gurgling sound. It could also be that the bag is full because it’s not cleaned.

Suctioned Large or Irregular-Sized Objects

It’s ideal to pick up the large items first off the surface you’re cleaning before starting the vacuum. This way, you minimize the risk of catching large or irregular-sized objects that may cause the vacuum to clog.

In some cases, the item may have sharp edges that can tear the inside of the hose as it’s being forced into the vacuum, causing more problems.

Vacuum Hose or Bag is Full

Obstructions or large debris are not the only things that can cause clogs. Sometimes, it’s a simple matter of leaving the bag or hose full. Even dust particles can lead to a buildup if not regularly disposed of.

Hair is also a usual cause of clogs, much like they tend to do in the drains. To be safe, make sure to empty the vacuum of its contents as soon as you’re done using it. This way, you’re always sure that the vacuum is empty, and so minimizes the risk of clogging.

The Vacuum Suctioned Liquid

Sometimes, it can’t be helped that the vacuum rolls over wet surface. While this shouldn’t cause a problem with the equipment directly, it could cause the dust and particles inside the bag to get wet. Once they dry up, they can turn into a hardened mass, which is what’s going to cause the clog.

The damage can get worse over time, especially if it is left unattended. The hardened mass of dust can become stuck on the equipment and can be difficult to remove. If this leads to more buildup, then the inside of the vacuum itself will start causing problems.

Other Components are Dirty

The filter and rollers are the other essential components of a vacuum. If this is the case, then the dirt from these parts will simply be sent back into the hose, which only adds up to the debris, thus causing the clog.

Again, the simple solution to this is to make sure these parts are clean and cleared of dust particles and hair strands.
