Chromecast Disney Plus Not Working

With the introduction of Chromecast with Google TV, Chromecast devices can finally run independently to other devices like your phone or tablet. But, with this new technology comes many bugs to fix. If you are like many users and have been struggling with Disney Plus on your Chromecast devices, this article should provide you with the information you need to get it up and running again.

Disney Plus may not work on Chromecast if your network is too slow or not connected, the device or Disney Plus app is outdated, the Disney Plus server is down, the app cache is full, there are too many apps open, the audio settings are incompatible or the HDMI connection is loose or unsuitable.

As you can see, there are many things that could cause the Disney Plus app to stop working on your Chromecast, and I will explain each of these in more detail below. You may also like to check if Disney Plus is supported where you are. This has also been provided below.

Chromecast Disney Plus Not Working

Unless you are casting your screen from a phone or tablet, Chromecast uses the Android/ Google TV interface, similar to what you would see on an Android Smart TV. Therefore, much of the support for Chromecast can be found in Android/Google TV support. When an app such as Disney Plus has stopped working, the troubleshooting tips below are usually very effective.

Restart the Chromecast Device

Restarting your Chromecast is quick and easy and might be all you need to get Disney Plus working. Follow the steps below to do this.

Step 1: Select ‘Settings’ under your profile.

Step 2: Navigate to ‘System > Restart’.

Step 3: Select ‘Restart’ again to confirm the restart process.

Reinstall the app

Reinstalling the app will delete its data, including any small errors that have occurred. This will also clear the cache, which I will explain in more detail at the end of this article, and install the latest Disney Plus firmware. You can reinstall the app following the steps below.

Step 1: Navigate to ‘Settings > Applications > Manage Applications > All’.

Step 2: Find the Disney Plus app.

Step 3: Select ‘Uninstall’.

Step 4: Restart the Chromecast device (as above)

Step 5: Ensure you are on the home page by pressing ‘Home’.

Step 6: Navigate to ‘App Categories > Search for Apps’.

Step 7: Search for and select Disney Plus.

Step 8: Select ‘Install’.

Hard Reset of the Chromecast

A hard reset allows all the power to drain from the Chromecast device to clear away any small errors that may have occurred. This does not delete any data from Chromecast, and it will be exactly the same as when you last used it. Hopefully, the only difference is that Disney Plus will be working.

Step 1: Unplug your Chromecast from its power source.

Step 2: Wait for at least one minute for the power to discharge.

Step 3: Plug the Power back in.

Factory Reset the Chromecast

A factory reset will return the Chromecast to the condition you bought it in, in regards to firmware and downloaded content. You will lose all new content and saved preferences on the Chromecast when you do this, but it is one of the most effective troubleshooting methods. If you would like to proceed, follow the steps below.

Step 1: Select ‘Settings’ under your profile.

Step 2: Navigate to ‘System > About’.

Step 3: Select ‘Factory Reset’.

Step 4: Wait for the Chromecast to fully reboot.

Step 5: Follow the on-screen instructions to set up your Chromecast.

Disney Plus Casting Unavailable

If you’re experiencing issues with casting Disney Plus content to your TV, one common problem is that casting may be unavailable due to a variety of factors.

One common reason is that the casting device and TV are not connected to the same Wi-Fi network. Ensure that both devices are connected to the same network and try again.

Another possible reason is that there is an issue with the Disney Plus app itself. Check for any available updates and install them if necessary. It’s also possible that there is an issue with your casting device or TV. Restart both devices and the Wi-Fi router to see if that resolves the issue.

Here is a list of troubleshooting areas you can look into:

  1. Check Device Compatibility:
    • Ensure that both your casting device (e.g., smartphone, tablet) and the TV/ streaming device support casting and are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
  2. Update Disney Plus App:
    • Confirm that your Disney Plus app is up-to-date on your casting device.
    • Visit the app store (Google Play Store or Apple App Store) to check for any available updates.
  3. Restart Casting Device and TV:
    • Power cycle your casting device and the TV by turning them off and then back on.
    • This simple step can resolve temporary glitches that may be causing casting issues.
  4. Restart Wi-Fi Router:
    • Reboot your Wi-Fi router by unplugging it from the power source, waiting for a few seconds, and then plugging it back in.
    • This can help resolve potential connectivity issues.
  5. Disable VPN or Proxy:
    • If you are using a Virtual Private Network (VPN) or proxy service, try disabling it before casting.
    • VPNs and proxies can sometimes interfere with casting functionality.
  6. Clear Disney Plus Cache (Mobile Devices):
    • On your casting device, go to the device’s settings and navigate to the application manager or apps.
    • Find Disney Plus in the list of apps, then clear its cache and data.
    • Re-launch the app and try casting again.
  7. Check for Casting Updates:
    • Ensure that your casting device and the TV or streaming device have the latest firmware and software updates.
    • Manufacturers often release updates that improve casting functionality.
  8. Try Another Casting Method:
    • If you are using built-in casting (e.g., Chromecast, AirPlay), try an alternative casting method, such as using a physical HDMI cable or a compatible casting device (e.g., Roku, Amazon Fire TV Stick).
  9. Test with Other Apps:
    • Check if casting works with other apps on your casting device to determine if the issue is specific to Disney Plus or a broader casting problem.
  10. Contact Disney Plus Support:
    • If the “Disney Plus Casting Unavailable” problem persists despite trying the above steps, contact Disney Plus customer support for further assistance.
    • Provide them with detailed information about the issue and the steps you’ve taken to troubleshoot it.

Remember, technology-related issues can be unique to individual setups. Consider following the manufacturer’s guidelines for your casting device, TV, or streaming device, and stay updated with Disney Plus support resources for any specific casting-related announcements.

Chromecast on Disney Plus Not Showing Up/Available/Found

Woman switching the channels on the TV

Often when you cannot find an app on a Chromecast device, it is because the app is incompatible. This may be due to the firmware on your Chromecast, but it may also relate to your location.

Check you Region is Supported

Disney Plus is supported in the US and many other countries. Although this list continues to grow, there are still countries where Disney Plus is not available. If you are in one of these countries, whether you are living there or travelling, you will not have access to Disney Plus.

For an updated list of the supported regions, click here (link to Disney Plus website). If you are in a region/country that is not listed, you can still access Disney Plus through a VPN service. This is a great way to access your content while on holidays overseas.

Update Chromecast OS

You may need to consider updating the firmware on your Chromecast. As Disney Plus advances, older systems may not be compatible with your Disney Plus app.

Keeping your Chromecast up to date will help prevent this, but keep in mind that all devices get to a point where they no longer receive updates. As your Chromecast device ages, it will support fewer and fewer apps. If your OS is in need of an update, follow the steps below to do so.

Step 1: Press the ‘Home’ button on your remote.

Step 2: Navigate to ‘Settings > About > System Update’.

Step 3: Wait for the update to complete (if available).

Disney Plus Not Connecting on Chromecast

Check the Disney Plus Server

If you cannot connect to Disney Plus, the first thing to check is that the Disney Plus servers are still up and running. Sometimes there may be scheduled maintenance that prevents people connecting.

Other times, there may be too many users at once. This is common when a new TV show has been released. Either way, there is nothing you can do when the Disney Plus servers are down. To check their status, try websites such as Down Detector.

Restart your Modem

Restarting the modem and router (if you have one) will re-establish a connection with your Chromecast, and fix any small errors that may have occurred with the wireless signal. To restart these correctly, follow the steps below.

Step 1: Unplug your modem and router from the power.

Step 2: Wait at least one minute.

Step 3: Plug the modem back into the power and wait for it to fully reboot.

Step 4: Once the modem is rebooted, plug the router back in.

Step 5: Once the router is fully rebooted, check your network connection again.

You should be able to tell if your WiFi is not working by checking other apps on the Chromecast or by checking other devices. If none of them are connecting, you know that your network is not connected.

Move the Modem/Router

Make sure your modem/router is in the same room as your Chromecast device. However, if they must be in separate rooms, there should be no more than 30 feet between them. If they are in the same room, make sure they are more than one foot apart.

If your modem/router is in a fixed position and you can’t move your Chromecast/TV, you might need to consider a WiFi booster. This is a device that sits between the modem/router and Chromecast, boosting the WiFi signal further than it could reach beforehand.

Check for Interference

You should make sure there is nothing nearby in your home that is disrupting your WiFi signal. If this is the case, you will not be able to fix the issue by simply restarting the modem and router.

Interference can be caused by either physical objects or by other wireless signals in close range. You should minimise these things to get the most out of your WiFi. Below are a number of transmitting devices that you should consider.

· Radios (such as a baby monitor or walkie-talkie)

· Microwaves

· Other nearby networks

· Bluetooth devices (such as headphones)

Physical objects are usually harder to control, but you can reposition the setup of your devices to avoid them. These physical barriers include the following.

· Solid timber or concrete walls

· Metal

· Floor heating systems

· Water (aquariums or hydronic systems)

· The TV

As you can see, even the TV can act as a barrier disrupting your WiFi. Because the Chromecast needs to be connected to your TVs HDMI port, you could use a HDMI extender cable to position it slightly further away from the TV. You should experiment with the position of your Chromecast, modem and router to get the best signal.

Chromecast Won’t Play Disney Plus

Disney Plus may not play if you have issues with your internet. Troubleshooting issues for this can be found above. However, you may also need to update the Disney Plus app.

Update Disney Plus App

Updating the Disney Plus app will clear any firmware bugs that are affecting the performance of the app. As the developers are made aware of different bugs that prevent Disney Plus from playing, they work on creating a fix.

This fix is then released in a new firmware update. You can Update the Disney Plus app on your Chromecast through the steps below.

Step 1: Press the ‘Home’ button on your remote.

Step 2: Highlight the Disney Plus app.

Step 3: Press and hold the centre button until more options appear.

Step 4: select ‘View Details’.

Step 5: Select ‘Update’ if an update is available.

You can also update an app through the Google Play Store by finding the app within it.

Chromecast Disney Plus Not Loading

Disney Plus will not load properly if you have a slow network or if you do not have any connection at all. Both of these issues can be improved using the methods mentioned above. Below I will outline how you can check your internet speed and what you can do to help Disney to load.

Check and Improve Internet Speed

To check your internet speed, you will need to download a speed testing app or go to their website on a computer that uses the same network. One popular app is known as speedtest.net. Once you have tested the download speed of your network, you need to compare it to the minimum requirements for Disney Plus.

Disney Plus requires a minimum of 5MB/s for its High Definition content. However, if you are watching any videos in 4K/Ultra HD, you will need at least 25MB/s.

If you are not reaching these speeds, you could try using an Ethernet cable. This will need to be connected to your Chromecast with the use of an Ethernet adaptor. Ethernet is the fastest and most reliable internet connection available, which is why online gamers will often choose this option.

Alternatively, you could also stream at a lower video quality. You can lower the quality through the ‘Video Playback’ and ‘Video Quality’ settings, which are found in your profile under ‘App Settings’. Lower quality content will load faster and put less demand on your download speeds.

Chromecast Disney Plus Sound Not Working/Audio Lag

Disappointed man while watching TV

When the sound is not working in the Disney Plus app, it is most likely the audio settings on your Chromecast. Follow the steps below to adjust the Dolby Digital settings, which should hopefully get the sound back.

Step 1: Press the ‘Home’ button on the remote.

Step 2: Navigate to ‘Settings > Display and Sound > Advanced Sound Settings > Format’.

Step 3: Select ‘Manual’ and then choose ‘Dolby Digital’.

If this doesn’t work, make sure your TV or speaker is not on mute or that the volume is not too low. You may also need to adjust the audio settings on your TV. Changing these settings to ‘Stereo’ usually returns the sound to normal.

If your sound is lagging, this may be a different issue. To fix this issue, you should try the following troubleshooting tips, which have been described previously.

· Restart Chromecast

· Reinstall the app

· Check your internet speed

· Update the Disney Plus app and Chromecast

Many users have experienced the same issue and this seems to be a known bug to the Chromecast developers. Until a firmware update is released to fix this bug, you could try turning off ‘Surround Sound’ in the ‘Display and Sound’ settings.

Chromecast Disney Plus Black Screen

Little boy watching glitch Tv

If Disney Plus is producing a black screen on your Chromecast, you should try the general troubleshooting methods mentioned at the beginning of this article. In particular, you should try a hard reset on the Chromecast and reinstall the Disney Plus app.

Alternatively, make sure you have the Chromecast plugged into a wall outlet for its power. Some people plug it into the USB port in the back of the TV, but this can cause it to malfunction at times if it is not receiving enough power. If these fixes do not work, you may need to consider the HDMI connection.

Check the HDMI Connection

A black screen usually means there is a connection issue between the Chromecast and the TV. For this reason, you should unplug and reinsert the Chromecast device from your TV.

However, make sure the device is plugged into a 4K HDMI port. On some TVs this is labelled with ‘4K’, but on others, it may just be labelled ‘best’. Using the best HDMI port will enable fast transfer of data across from the Chromecast to your TV, preventing any issues with your video.

Once you have plugged your Chromecast into a desirable HDMI port, make sure you have selected this HDMI channel through the ‘Input’ menu on your TV. You may simply have a black screen because you are on the wrong channel.

Disney Plus Keeps Freezing on Chromecast

Mad woman while watching Tv

Internet Connection

Poor internet connection is one of the main reasons why Disney Plus will continue to freeze. This is known as ‘buffering’ and occurs when the playback speed is faster than your download speed.

Normally, Disney Plus will download a show while you watch it so that you always have a constant stream. When the downloading is too slow, you will watch the downloaded portion, but then have to wait for more content to download. You can help improve this by troubleshooting your internet connection, which has been detailed above.

Clear the Cache

Sometimes an app will save too many temporary data files, causing the app to freeze and crash. These data files are kept in the app’s cache and normally will contribute to loading content, such as menus and icons, faster. Clearing the cache occurs when you reinstall the app, as I mentioned earlier, but you can also do this manually.

Step 1: Press the ‘Home’ button on the remote.

Step 2: Navigate to ‘Settings > Apps > Disney Plus’.

Step 3: Select ‘Clear Cache and Clear Data’

Close Background Apps

Background apps can also use up too much memory on your Chromecast. If too much memory is used at any given time, the apps may be susceptible to freezing or crashing. You can close background apps using the method below.

Step 1: Press the ‘Home’ button on your remote.

Step 2: Navigate to ‘Settings > Apps’.

Step 3: Select an app you wish to close.

Step 4: Select ‘Force Stop’.

Step 5: Repeat this for all apps you are not currently using.
