How to Reset Dyson Vacuum

Dyson Vacuums do not have a specific reset button, but you can easily reset various aspects of the vacuum like the brush bar on models that are upright. The brush bar is responsible for picking up dirt and dust and can develop jams which then translate into limited suction power and decreased mobility of the vacuum. If you want to reset your Dyson Vacuum, first turn off the vacuum cleaner and remove the power cord from the electrical outlet. Then, turn the Dyson vacuum over so that you can easily see the head of the vacuum cleaner.

Now, go ahead and use a flathead screwdriver to push down on the tabs that connect the vacuum cleaner head to the rest of the body of the vacuum cleaner.  

Then, pry off the vacuum cleaner head. Remove the screws that are holding down the sole plate cover. This will provide ready access to the brush bar on all upright vacuum models.

If you have a Dyson Vacuum Cleaner model that has a moveable head, once you unscrew all of the screws it will separate the vacuum brush bar from the brush bar housing unit.

Now, examine the brush bar to determine if there are any areas of blockage due to an accumulation of dust, dirt, or other debris.

Try to see if you can easily spin the brush bar manually within its housing unit. If you encounter significant tangles of hair or clumps of fibers, try using scissors to cut away any foreign body constrictions until you can rotate the brush bar easily.

If you have completely removed the brush bar from its housing, you can try using your hands to directly pull off any areas of dirt or debris or clumped fibers. Now, go ahead and reassemble the brush head and screw the soleplate back into place.

Next, find the power switch for the brush bar, which you can usually locate on the Dyson Vacuum Cleaner Handle that is just on top of the vacuum cleaner body or it may be in a location that is on the side of the vacuum cleaner body.

Go ahead and press this button one time, which will reset the brush bar. Now, place the Dyson Vacuum Cleaner back in its upright position and plug it back in and then turn the power back on.

At this point, check to see if your Dyson Vacuum Cleaner is working again and functioning normally.

How to Reset Dyson Vacuum Battery

Examine the filter to see if it can be salvaged, but if it contains too much dirt or it is falling apart, you will need to replace it.

Now, plug your Dyson Vacuum back into the electrical outlet to see if it is working normally again.

Make sure to avoid this problem by unlocking the vacuum cleaner handle by using your foot to push down on the handle locking button that you can find right around the cleaning head.

Also, if the cleaner head is at too low an angle, it may cause the brush bar not to spin. Make sure that you set the cleaner head at an appropriate angle to clean either hard wood floors or low-level carpets.

In addition, on certain models of Dyson vacuums, the cleaner heads are free to rotate and are not locked in a fixed position. If this occurs, the brush bar’s motor will shut down.

If the rubber drive belt that connects the motor to the brush bar is broken or has become worn out, it can cause slipping and disengagement of the brush bar mechanism.

To replace the rubber drive belt, unplug it again and lie it back on the floor. Check the brush bar to see if it has either one or two bars that are connected to the rubber drive belt.

Use a special lifting tool to pry up the cover from the brush bar. Go ahead and replace the belt if it is indeed broken or worn out.

How to Reset Dyson Stick Vacuum

Go ahead and take off the screws which fasten the sole plate cover to the vacuum cleaner head. You can use a coin put into the screw slot to unscrew each screw.

Now you should be able to see the brush head and so now you can remove the brush bar from the brush bar housing.

Closely examine the brush head and use scissors to remove any clogged up debris consisting of hair fibers and other debris.

Now reassemble the brush head and then go ahead and put the sole head back on and attach it with the screws.

Find the on/off switch that controls the brush bar which is on the handle of the vacuum. Press the button one time which will reset the brush bar.

Now, put the vacuum back in an upright position and go ahead and turn it back on.

How to Reset Dyson Ball Vacuum
