Is There A Reset Button On A Frigidaire Washer?

Reset buttons are a wonderful thing, much like the backspace button on a computer keypad. But reset buttons have evolved over the years. We still have the option to ‘start over’ but it’s not at the push of one button.

Generally speaking, Frigidaire washers do not have an actual reset button. There is, however, a sequence of buttons or control knob turns that will clear the washer commands, resetting the washing machine’s control board so that it will respond to new commands.

It is important to know how to reset your Frigidaire washer. The washing machine is not a complicated machine but being an electronic machine, it does not take much to cause a glitch within the machine’s control board.

Any interruption in power can cause the Frigidaire washer control board to freeze and become unresponsive. A power surge or power failure can pause a command mid-cycle, causing the washer to become unresponsive.

Sometimes there are even things we do that cause the washer to stop working. An unbalanced or uneven load is one way. When large items, such as towels, are washed with smaller items, like socks, the weight of the wet items will become unevenly distributed in the washer drum.

The washer will rock back and forth in an attempt to redistribute the load. If it is unsuccessful, the washer will shut itself off. This not only saves the washer from unnecessary damage but also prevents it from overheating, which poses a potential fire hazard.

Even though the washer shuts off as a safety feature, this action can cause the washing machine to become stuck in the ‘Spin’ cycle, and it will not respond to any new commands.

Whether you are reading this article because your Frigidaire washer is currently not responding to commands or you are simply educating yourself, this article will outline how to correctly reset a Frigidaire washer.

The following steps are successful for any model of Frigidaire washer. If the steps outlined in this article do not resolve the issue you are experiencing, the problem could be due to an electrical issue or other faulty hardware.

Frigidaire Washer Reset Computer/Control Board

man fixing the washing machine

Our appliances rely on a computer/control board to work. The control board is the brain of the appliance. It controls everything from starting the selected wash cycle to the temperature settings and the final spin cycle. Without a working control board, the washing machine is useless.

To reset a Frigidaire washer computer/control board, remove power from the washing machine by either unplugging the washer from the wall outlet or turning off the circuit breaker supplying power to the wall outlet. Leave the power disconnected for 30 seconds.

With so much continual use, the washing machine can become stuck. A glitch in communication between the control board and the other working components of the washer can cause the washer to become stuck in the last cycle chosen. It can also prevent the washer from responding to any commands.

Removing the washer’s power supply breaks the control board’s electronic connection to the rest of the machine. By breaking this connection you are, in a sense, trying to wake up the machine. If resetting the control board did not work the first time, you can repeat the steps again.

Seeing an error code displayed on any appliance can quickly cause you to develop a migraine. But these codes are a good thing. It is how your appliance lets you know what is wrong. It also saves you from having to do a lot of time-consuming troubleshooting.

Depending on the error code, your Frigidaire washer could be alerting you to an issue with the water pump, the heating element, or even the amount of electricity it is receiving. Your Frigidaire User’s Manual will address the error codes and what they mean.

Some error codes can be easily remedied without the assistance of a professional. Here are some examples.

E43-46, E95 Error Codes

These error codes mean there is an issue with the control board. As was mentioned earlier in this article, the control board is the brain of the washing machine. If the control board does not work, your washing machine will not work.

To reset these error codes, unplug the washing machine from its power source for 5 minutes. After restoring power, wait 30 seconds before turning the washing machine on. The disruption in the power supply will clear these error codes.

E21 Error Code

This error code means there is a problem with the motor circuit. This error affects the washer’s ability to drain efficiently and in a timely manner. If you notice it takes longer than usual for the washer barrel to drain, this could be one of the reasons.

Before resetting the washing machine, first check the drain hose for any clogs or kinks that could prevent the washer from draining. If the problem persists, the following steps will reset the washing machine and clear the above-mentioned error codes.

Step 1: Choose any wash cycle and press ‘Start’.

Step 2: Press the ‘Cancel’ button to stop the cycle.

Step 3: Press the ‘Cancel’ button again. The display panel lights should turn off.

Step 4: Press the ‘Cancel’ button again to turn the display lights on.

Step 6: Unplug the washer from its power source for 20 seconds.
