Samsung Phone Restarting

While smartphones are convenient, they can have more difficulties than a basic phone when the software or hardware is compromised. Sometimes, those problems can be hard to distinguish from the phone’s normal operation. For phones that are restarting in peculiar ways, these troubleshooting tips can help pinpoint the problem.

Samsung Phone Restarting on Its Own after Update

Phone updates are important because they provide bug fixes and security updates. Unfortunately, sometimes these updates can cause problems, such as compatibility issues with apps and outdated hardware.

In general, if a Samsung phone is restarting after an update, first try restarting the phone. This will usually fix the problem, as some features of the update may not become active until after a restart.

The occasional unexpected restart is something that happens when technology has an automatic updated feature, and updates will usually prompt the user to do it on their own if they don’t do it automatically. Anyone with a Windows computer should be familiar with the constant reminders to restart when an update needs to be installed. Unless the problem persists, a single restart after an update is not a major concern.

Samsung Phone Restarting Repeatedly

Phone problems are frustrating when experienced, and having a phone that restarts itself repeatedly is one of them. It can feel hopeless if you can’t even launch your phone.

In general, when a Samsung phone is restarting itself repeatedly, start the phone in Safe Mode. Once inside the phone, remove any recently installed third-party applications. The last resort when all else fails is to perform a factory reset.

A phone that is repeatedly restarting is more likely to have an underlying issue than one that restarts after an update. Some third-party applications can be poorly made or intentionally malicious. This causes the phone to run more slowly and potentially crash if it encounters a serious error. As long as the restart is giving you a bit of time, it’s possible to remove the apps directly from the phone. It may be possible to manipulate the files if the phone is connected to a computer, but that can put the connected computer at risk from malicious files on the phone. The reverse is also true, so be mindful when charging your phone with a USB cord connected to a computer.

A phone that is fully updated and started in Safe Mode will stick to the core functions of the phone. To get into Safe Mode, turn the phone off, then be sure to hold the volume decreasing button on the side. This can stop a third-party app from restarting the phone until you remove it. If the restarting stops once the phone is in Safe Mode, you’ll have the time to finish removing the problematic app. When a phone in Safe Mode is still regularly restarting, the problem is likely deeper in the software or is a hardware issue.

To completely reset the phone so that all software problems are removed as potential problems, restart the phone and hold the volume increase and power buttons. You may have to hold the home button on some models, as well. The system recovery menu should appear, giving the option to wipe the cache and restore factory defaults.

Before you go through with a factory reset, remember to save any important files on your phone onto another device. Forgetting to do so may lose valuable pictures, videos, messages, and other information that will be difficult – if not impossible – to replace or recover. If there are files of serious importance on the phone and there is no way to quickly get them off

Samsung Phone Restarting Every Few Minutes

It’s good to manually restart your phone every once in a while to reset your device’s resources. But if your phone is restarting itself every few minutes, then you have a big issue in hand.

When you find your Samsung phone restarting every few minutes, make sure the phone’s operating system is up to date and the battery has sufficient charge. Then, remove any recently installed third-party applications, followed by restarting the phone again. Use Safe Mode to test the phone if restarts continue.

Like ones with repeated restarts, phones that have an occasional restart that occurs every few minutes point to a third-party application as the culprit. Remove the most recent third-party applications, using Safe Mode if necessary. As a reminder: restart the phone, then hold the volume down button as the Samsung logo is displayed. Holding it down early is fine, too.

Another quirky issue is having a battery that does not hold a charge well while using the phone as it’s attached to a charger. The charging symbol may obfuscate the low battery, so the restarts may happen when the cord stops transferring power for a moment.

If the battery is sufficiently charged and all third-party applications have been removed, a factory reset may solve the issue. As above, always be sure to save any important pictures, videos, and other files onto another device before a factory reset.

Phones and other technology have startup routines that govern much of their operation. Updates will usually force or strongly suggest a restart to apply the changes to those startup configurations. A phone that restarts itself one time may have updated itself, and one-off restarts do not offer much to diagnose if there is an underlying issue. If the phone is continuously restarting, try looking for an answer with more details, such as troubleshooting for a phone that is restarting quickly after startup or one that is having battery charging issues as well. The more details that are added, the better the troubleshooting will be.

Samsung Phone Restarting and Draining Battery

A phone should not be constantly restarting itself. This is an obvious sign that there is something wrong. It could be a software issue or a battery problem.

When a Samsung phone keeps restarting and draining the battery, check your battery for signs of obvious damage. Start the phone in Safe Mode, and remove third-party applications, starting with the most recently installed. . If problems persist, attempt a battery replacement followed by a factory reset.

If the phone is both restarting and quickly losing battery, there are more symptoms that can be used to diagnose the problem. In addition to causing restarts, third-party apps can drain the battery at an excessive rate. Batteries also degrade over time, especially when put under strenuous use, continuously charged, or operating under high temperatures.

Turn the phone off, unplug it from any charger, and remove the cover. Find the battery housing and remove its cover. This may require a screwdriver, depending on the model. Find the battery, and give it a visual inspection. If there are any signs of bulging, corrosion, or other damage, then there is a risk that the battery will cause further damage. Do not use a phone with a swollen battery, and immediately seek help and more information related to the disposal of damaged batteries.

If the battery is in proper condition, then return the cover and turn the phone back on, entering Safe Mode by holding down the volume down button as the Samsung logo is displayed. Remove third-party applications, and give the phone a minute in Safe Mode to see if the battery draining and restarting continues. If that doesn’t solve the problem, you can attempt a factory reset or seek professional troubleshooting help.
