If you are currently experiencing issues with the Sling TV app, you’ve come to the right place. This article will address everything from Sling TV not loading to audio issues. The remedy to all of these issues is simple and quick.

Sling Not Loading On Roku

The beauty of Roku is that you can have all of your streaming apps in one place. If you have recently subscribed to Sling TV you expect it to work on Roku. What do you do if the app is not loading?

If Sling is not loading on Roku, Roku may need to be refreshed. Restart Roku to clear out any bugs in the software and also to force any pending updates that could be affecting how Roku works. Unplug Roku and allow it to rest for at least 30 seconds.

Restarting Roku will also clear the memory cache. The memory cache is similar to a bank. Each time you use Roku, data is stored in the ‘bank’ so the information is readily available next time it is needed.

Over time, this ‘bank’ gets too full and no new data can be entered. Cleaning out the memory cache frees up memory space so the app can work smoothly again.

Roku Not Compatible

It is a sad reality when it comes to our electronic devices. As technology advances, our older devices eventually become obsolete. You can visit Sling.com to see if your Roku device is listed among the ones that are no longer compatible with the Sling TV app.

Unfortunately, if your Roku device is listed here, the only way to remedy the problem is to upgrade. The advantage to upgrading is that your new device will be ready to receive new updates for a long time to come.

Sling Not Opening On Roku

If your Roku device is compatible with the Sling TV app but it is not opening, there are a couple of reasons why you are experiencing this problem.

If Sling is not opening on Roku there could be an issue with Sling TV’s server. Go to Downdetector.com to see if there are any other reported outages from your neighbors. If no outages are reported, you can report the issues you are having on this site.

Once you are able to confirm that the issue is something only you are experiencing, here are two suggestions to help troubleshoot the issue.

Remote

The problem could lie with the remote, and not the Sling TV app. If the remote batteries are too low, or dead, the remote will not work. Replace the batteries with alkaline batteries only. Rechargeable batteries are not strong enough and certainly do not last long enough.

You may also need to re-pair the remote and TV. A power surge or internet outage could have caused the remote to lose its connection with the TV. Re-pairing the remote is easy and only takes a few seconds.

Step 1: Remove the batteries from the remote.

Step 2: Let the remote rest without the batteries for 20 seconds.

Step 3: After 20 seconds, replace the batteries.

Step 4: Next the battery compartment is the pairing button. Press and hold this button for 3 seconds or until the pairing light starts flashing.

Step 5: Once the light starts flashing, a notification box will appear on the TV screen once the remote and TV have been successfully re-paired.

Another possibility is the buttons on the remote are stuck. We take for granted the abuse our remote gets. We eat over them. We sit on them. Dogs and babies drool on them.

It’s very easy for the buttons to get stuck. One stuck button will render the entire remote useless.

Step 1: Remove the batteries from the remote.

Step 2: Press button on the remote, individually, two times.

Step 3: Repeat this process two times.

Step 4: Replace the batteries and use the remote.

Credentials

Credentials are how we verify we are the account owner and user. If an app has not been used in a long time or, conversely, has been open for an extended period of time, you will need to verify your credentials for security purposes.

Simpy log out of the Sling TV app and then reenter your credentials to log back in. Logging out of the app will refresh it and will install any pending updates that could be affecting the app’s performance.

Sling Not Playing On Roku

Roku is like a cookie jar and all of the downloaded apps are the cookes. If there is a problem with one of the cookes, the jar is rarely the reason why. Similarly, if the Sling TV app is not working, the issue is often with the app itself.

If Sling is not playing on Roku the reason could be due to a weak internet connection. Restarting the router will help strengthen the signal. Unplug the router and let it rest for 60 seconds before plugging it back in. You can also move the router closer to the Roku device.

Opening another app on Roku will help determine if the issue is with the Sling TV app only or other apps are not working as well.

Power Cycle TV

Power cycling the TV will help clear out any bugs that could be affecting the communication between Roku and the downloaded apps.

Step 1: Turn off the TV.

Step 2: Unplug the TV from its power source.

Step 3: Let the TV rest without any electricity for at least 5 minutes.

Step 4: After 5 minutes, plug the TV back in and turn it on.

Step 5: Once the updates are installed, restart your TV to refresh everything.

Sling Keeps Cutting Out On Roku

You are finally able to watch the movie you have been waiting all week to see. You are on the couch with drink and snacks in hand, ready to start watching. The movie starts and then cuts out. Again and again.

If Sling keeps cutting out on Roku, the internet connection may not be stable enough to support the Sling TV app. Restart the router to increase the signal strength. Reduce the number of devices on the same network as Roku. Use a hardwired connection to reduce the amount of interference.

It is normal for the internet to drop every now and then but if you live in an area where this happens frequently, it would be good to invest in a mesh network or extender. This will help to boost your Wi-Fi signal and broadcast the signal farther.

You can also visit Sling.com to see if there are any reported server issues under the section Known Issues. If you continue to experience issues with the Sling TV app, the sling website allows you to chat with a live technician who can provide more in-depth support.

Sling Keeps Freezing/Crashing On Roku

Freezing and crashing are never good, even in the make-believe world. But when you are trying to relax and be entertained it is extremely frustrating when your show keeps dropping out.

If Sling keeps freezing/crashing on Roku, the app may not have enough internet bandwidth. Reduce the number of devices connected to the same network. If possible, use a hard-wired internet connection for better stability. If using an HDMI or ethernet cable, make sure it is tightly connected.

A pending Roku update will also affect how the apps downloaded to Roku function. The following steps will walk you through how to update Roku.

Step 1: Use the Roku remote to go to the home screen.

Step 2: Scroll down to ‘Settings’.

Step 3: Select ‘System’.

Step 4: Select ‘System Update’.

Step 5:Select ‘Check Now’.

Sling Slow On Roku

Holding a remote while pointing in the TV

Oftentimes when an app is slow, there is an issue with the internet and it is causing the app to continually buffer. If you have tried the above suggestions for increasing and stabilizing your internet and the Sling TV app is still slow, here are two more reasons why this is happening.

If Sling is slow on Roku, adjust the amount of data being used by the app. Adjusting the amount of data will affect the quality of the video display. You can adjust this setting within the Sling app, selecting ‘Sling Connection’ for more information.

Granted, this may not be the preferred method of viewing Sling TV but at least you can still view it. This is a great option if you are streaming live content during peak internet use hours, such as Friday and Saturday night.

Roku Sling Audio Sync Problem

Audio problems are often the result of a loose cable or wrong audio setting. If you have checked these items and continue to have audio sync problems, here is the last resort to solving the problem.

If Roku Sling has audio sync problems, performing a factory reset of Roku will return everything to the original factory default settings. All saved apps and settings will be deleted, wiping everything clean. In Roku settings, select ‘Advanced System Settings’ > Factory Reset’.
