Roku Paramount Plus Not Working

Paramount Plus has taken over CBS All Access. Paramount Plus is now the streaming channel that features CBS content, Comedy Central, original Paramount Pictures, live television shows and so much more. Of course, all this content is useless if the app doesn’t work.

Roku Paramount Plus will not work if there are bugs within the Paramount app itself, if the app did not install correctly, or if there are any pending updates. A decrease in Wi-Fi signal and strength will also affect the app’s ability to work correctly.

There are a variety of reasons why you are experiencing issues with Paramount Plus on Roku. Uncovering the culprit will take some troubleshooting but this article will help you to do that. The steps outlined in this article are applicable whether you are using a Roku TV or streaming device.

Roku Paramount Plus Crashing

It is frustrating enough when you are in the middle of a movie or television show and it crashes. But when it keeps happening, that can quickly shift our emotions from annoyed to seriously stressed out.

If the Roku Paramount Plus keeps crashing, the app may not be receiving sufficient internet to run. Paramount Plus requires an internet speed of at least 4 Mbps. Go to the website fast.com to perform a speed test of your internet.

Before investigating the issue much further, make sure the issue you are having is indeed with Paramount Plus itself and not something else. Launch other apps on Roku to see if they are working. If there are no issues with those apps, continue reading for some more suggestions.

Restart Roku

Whether you are using a Roku TV or Roku streaming device, sometimes the continuous use of these electronics will cause them to freeze. Restarting Roku will help refresh Roku and will also resolve a host of temporary, albeit frustrating, issues with any downloaded channels such as Paramount Plus.

The simplest and quickest way to restart Roku is to disconnect the TV or streaming device from its power source for at least 60 seconds. This break in electrical power will clear out any bugs in the software. After 60 seconds, plug Roku back in and launch the Paramount Plus app.

Memory Cache

The memory cache saves information for quick use later. When this memory bank becomes full, it will affect how Roku performs. Restarting Roku will clear up some memory space and improve how the downloaded apps work.

Step 1: Using the Roku remote, press the ‘Home’ button.

Step 2: Go to ‘Settings’.

Step 3: Scroll down to ‘System’.

Step 4: Select ‘System Restart’.

Step 5: Once the restart is complete, restart your TV and then launch the Paramount Plus app.

Paramount Plus Won’t Launch On Roku

Having an app on Roku that will not open is like looking at a cake through the bakery window. It’s right there. You can see it. But you can’t get to it.

If Paramount Plus won’t launch on Roku, the problem may not lie with Paramount Plus. The first place to start troubleshooting is with your remote. If the batteries are dead or a button is stuck, the remote will not be able to communicate with Roku and the Paramount Plus app will not open.

Replacing the remote batteries is simple enough but you also want to make sure the buttons on the remote are not stuck. Before you replace the batteries, press each button on the remote individually, two times.

You will repeat this process two times. This process may seem silly and redundant but it is crucial to ensure each button can be pressed and then fully released. One stuck button will render the entire remote useless.

After the second time of pressing each button two times, replace the batteries and use the remote. Once you have determined the remote is not the problem, the next step is to determine if the issue is with Roku or Paramount Plus.

Change Devices

One way to determine if the culprit is within the Paramount Plus app is to open the app on another device. If the app opens and runs without a problem, the issue is not with the app. If the app does not open, the next subheading will walk you through what to do next.

Reinstall Paramount Plus App

If the Paramount Plus app was recently updated, old remnants of the previous and now outdated update could be lingering and are preventing the more recent update from taking full effect. Uninstalling and reinstalling the app will remove those glitches so the new update can take full effect.

Use your remote to select the Paramount Plus app. Do not open the app. Press the star (*) button on the remote and then select ‘Remove Channel’. After the channel is removed, wait 20 seconds and then reinstall the channel.

Restart Roku

Since Roku is host to thousands of streaming platforms, it can get overwhelmed. If you are not able to open any streaming channels on Roku, it may be time to perform a factory reset. This should only be done as a last resort because it will cause Roku to return to factory settings.

Step 1: Go to the Roku settings then select ‘System’.

Step 2: Navigate to ‘Advanced System Settings’.

Step 3: Select ‘Factory Reset’.

Step 4: Once the reset is complete, reinstall previously installed channels and reenter your credentials.

If you are met with the dreaded black screen and words, “Content Not Available”, do not panic. There is a simple reason why you are seeing this message and it is easy to fix.

If the Roku Paramount Plus content is not available, there may be a pending update that is preventing the app from working. Performing a system update will automatically install these updates. Go to Settings > System > System Update > Check Now.

The Paramount Plus app communicates with the Paramount Plus server, not Roku. If the Paramount Plus app is outdated, it will not be able to communicate with the Paramount Plus server which means no content will be available.

Go to the Paramount Plus app to see if there are any pending updates. If any updates are available, click on the Update button.

It is important to refresh your TV after any updates are installed. This will ensure there is a fresh line of communication between the TV and the newly updated app.

Paramount Plus App Not On Roku

We often take for granted how easy it is to download apps. We automatically assume the app is available and we can download it.

The Paramount Plus app will not be on Roku if your Roku TV or Roku streaming device is not compatible with the app. Recent updates may have changed the app’s requirements in order to be supported by a Roku TV or streaming device.

  • Roku LT Model # 2400 X and 2450 X
  • Roku HD Model # 2500 X
  • Roku 2 HD Model # 3000 X
  • Roku 2 XD Model # 3050 X
  • Roku 2 XS Model # 3100 X
  • Roku stick model # 3400 X and 3420 X

If you have one of these Roku devices, they no longer support the Paramount Plus channel. Unfortunately, the only way to remedy this issue is to update your TV or streaming device.

Paramount Plus Roku Black Screen

Are you trying to stream live content but only get a black screen? Here are a few reasons why this is happening.

Paramount Plus Roku will display a black screen if AD blocking software is activated. AD blocking software allows for sponsored messages to play. If the software is detected, the Paramount Plus app will disable video playback and only display a black screen.

Streaming live content from any app requires more of our network and streaming device than simply watching a pre-recorded movie or television show.

Bandwidth

One reason you are seeing a black screen while running Paramount Plus could be due to insufficient bandwidth. You may have internet speed but not enough bandwidth to support the digital output.

You can increase your network bandwidth by reducing the number of devices on the network. Restarting the router and even moving it closer to your streaming device will also increase the bandwidth.

Another way to increase bandwidth is by making sure you have a stable internet connection. If you are connected wirelessly to your Wi-Fi network, switching to a hardwire connection will ensure a more stable and stronger internet connection.

Paramount Plus Buffering Issues On Roku

Paramount Plus buffering issues on Roku are due to network issues. Restarting the router will clear out any communication bugs between Roku and the Paramount Plus network. Refreshing the network connection will also increase the signal strength so any pending updates can be installed.
