Asus monitors can have issues with the screen and some steps need to be taken to get them to display correctly, or to fix an issue that just started happening. Today, I will explain how to troubleshoot issues with an Asus monitor.

In general, many issues are caused by the cable being slightly loose or damaged. Unplug the video cable such as the VGA, or HDMI cable, and plug it back in again. Also, inspect the video cable to see if there is any cosmetic damage on the port. After that, do the following.

A reset can be performed by unplugging your Asus monitor from the wall outlet, and plugging it back in again. This is very effective for a wide range of issues. Below are step by step instructions to fix the most common issues that occur with an Asus monitor.

If a monitor is too dark it’s difficult to look at, and ideally it should be a comfortable brightness. When your Asus monitor is too dark, here’s how to change it so that it’s brighter.

As a general rule, you should adjust the brightness up, and/or the contrast up on the on screen display (OSD). These are the settings on the monitor itself which you access using buttons or a joystick on the monitor. You may also need to adjust the brightness and contrast in Windows.

First, try adjusting the brightness and contrast on the monitor. There are buttons on Asus monitors that are located either on the back of the right hand side of the monitor, on the underside on the bottom of the monitor, or there’s joystick type controls at the center of the bottom of the monitor. They should be easy to locate.

The owner’s manual for your Asus monitor will state what each of the buttons do, and how to navigate around the menu. A downloadable version of the owner’s manual can be found on this page on the official Asus website.

The hue of an Asus monitor can be adjusted to make it more red, blue, or green, these are referred to as the R/G/B settings. When these have been set incorrectly, or there is another issue with your Asus monitor the screen can be too yellow. Here’s how to troubleshoot when your Asus monitor is too yellow.

Overall, the signal cable such as an HDMI, or VGA cable is loose on either end. Or, one of the pins on the signal cable can be bent or has broken off. Inspect the cable, and unplug it, and plug it in again, ensuring it’s plugged in all the way. If it’s not that, do the steps below.

Next, adjust the R/G/B settings to the default. This is done by using the on screen display (OSD) on your Asus monitor. It’s controlled by buttons on your monitor. Exactly, where these buttons are located varies by model.

Check your owners manual to see how to adjust the RGB settings for your specific model. There is also another setting called ‘temperature’, which can be causing your Asus monitor to be too yellow. Adjust this as well on the OSD.

Which causes your Asus monitor to temporarily use power, or it can’t draw enough power and turns on and off again. Make sure the power cable is plugged in all the way on both ends.

Also, if you’re using a multi-port adapter at the wall outlet, it can be faulty. Try plugging it into a different wall outlet, or plugging it directly into the wall outlet to isolate whether it’s the wall outlet or a multi-port adapter that is causing the issues.

Black Monitor on the desk

Horizontal lines, or screen flickering can occur with monitors in general. To isolate what is causing the issue with an Asus monitor, and stop it from happening, here’s what you should do.

In general, first check that the video cable is plugged in correctly on both ends. Do this by unplugging both ends and plugging them back in again. If your video cable has pins, check that the pins aren’t bent or missing. Next, remove any nearby devices that can be causing an interference.

An Asus monitor can be connected over HDMI or a video cable like VGA. HDMI cables don’t have pins but can be slightly damaged. Inspect both ends, to see if there is any cosmetic damage.

If you have a spare HDMI or VGA cable try that instead. If the issue persists then contact Asus support to have your monitor repaired or replaced.

As a general rule, the cable is not plugged in correctly, is damaged, or has failed. There can also be nearby devices that are causing interference. Move nearby devices such as Bluetooth speakers away from your monitor to see if they’re the cause.

Reseat the video cable by unplugging it on the end that plugs into your monitor and the end that plugs into your computer. While it’s unplugged inspect both ends of the cable for any visible damage. If there isn’t any visible damage, plug the cable back in on both ends.

And see if that has solved the issue. Use a different video cable instead of the one you’re using. If the cable isn’t the issue, or there are no nearby devices that could be causing an interference contact Asus support.

Asus Monitor Brightness Keeps Changing (Cause and How to Fix)

Black Monitor on the desk

There are a few settings that can cause an Asus monitor to change in brightness randomly, or when the room where it’s located gets brighter or darker. Here’s why this happens, and the settings you need to change to turn it off.

As a general rule, dynamic contrast is set in Windows. This is turned off in the ‘power settings’ in Windows. Some Asus monitors also have HDCR which is another dynamic contrast, refer to your owners manual to see if your specific monitor has this.

Asus also states that it could be caused by the cable between your monitor and your computer being slightly loose. There are a few other fixes which are worth trying in Windows.

Changing the brightness using the onscreen display (OCD) menu on your monitor works fine. But, if you need to change the brightness from your computer, there is an issue that will cause it not to change from the default Windows settings. Below is how to change the brightness on your Asus monitor when it’s not working.

Overall, the brightness is only configured through the software for your graphics card if it’s not working from the Windows settings. Open the software for your graphics card such as Intel or NVidia, and adjust the brightness through that.

If you don’t know what brand of graphics card you have then open the Device Manager. You can open it by typing in ‘device manager’ into the search box in the start menu. The Device Manager will show near the top, then click on it with your mouse.

For example, if you have an Intel graphics card. Type in ‘intel’, the software for your graphics card will show at the top of the menu. Open it and adjust the brightness and contrast on that.

Asus Monitor Flashing Colors (Cause and How to Fix)

Black Monitor on the desk

When using your Asus monitor it can randomly display a solid color on the screen that comes and goes. For example, it can be solid blue, or solid yellow, and change between the different colors every few seconds. Here’s why this happens, and how to fix this issue.

In general, it indicates a defect with one of the hardware components on your Asus monitor. However, first try restarting your monitor, and check that the video cable is not loose on either end. The cable can also be defective, so try a different video cable.

Many Asus monitors have a color calibration mode that will test each of the different colors. This can have been enabled by accident. Restarting your Asus monitor can take it out of color test mode.

To restart your monitor unplug it from the power, wait for about 10 seconds, then plug it back in again, and turn it on. If you have a spare VGA or HDMI cable lying around try that instead. Otherwise, if it keeps flashing colors contact Asus support to enquire about what they suggest.

In my opinion, they will organize to have it repaired or replaced. They can also let you know if it’s covered under warranty.

Asus Monitor Blurry (Cause and How to Fix)

Overall, the resolution setting is set incorrectly in Windows. Adjust the resolution to a higher setting. For certain Asus models, Asus recommends adjusting the ‘Phase’ and ‘Clock’ settings, as well as, pressing the ‘A’ button on your monitor for 2 to 4 seconds.

The details for how to adjust the phase and clock settings are explained in the owner’s manual. However, if you’re familiar with using the onscreen display (OSD), the settings should be easy to find. The position of the ‘A’ button differs by model, so also refer to your owners manual to see what button this is on your Asus monitor.

As a general rule, first restart your monitor by disconnecting it from the wall outlet, wait for about 10 seconds, then plug back in again. Next, inspect the power cable, and video cable to ensure they’re plugged in all the way and there is no cosmetic damage to the ports, then do the steps below.
