Blink Camera Not Working At Night

Blink cameras are a terrific choice for those interested in affordable security camera solutions. They’re easy to set up and can clearly capture videos day and night. But what if they stop working at night?

If your Blink camera is not working at night, the issue might be with its infrared (IR) night vision setting. Ensure that the night vision setting is enabled in the Blink app. Navigate to the camera settings in the app, locate the “Infrared” or “Night Vision” option, and toggle it on to activate the camera’s night vision capability.

The IR LED Illuminator lights up the area that the camera is recording. If its sensor is blocked by a tree, debris, or even the camera’s protective covering if there is one, the IR Illuminator will not work properly.

Remove any obstruction and allow for the camera’s IR emitter to have a clear view.

Inside the Blink app there is a setting to adjust the Night Vision settings. By default, the Night Vision setting should be set to Auto, but you can switch it to always stay on.

Blink Camera Goes Offline At Night

Blink cameras are supposed to be dependable, recording movement day and night. Even at night, they are equipped with infrared sensors that allow them to see what’s going on. But what if they start losing connection at night?

If a Blink camera goes offline at night, check the proximity of your sync module to your router. Check to see if your ISP is doing maintenance work. Blink servers that are temporarily down might also be the cause for your camera going offline.

When a Blink camera goes offline, the first thing you can do is check to see if the sync module is close enough to the router so that the devices can communicate with each other. The closer they are the stronger the connectivity will be.

Internet service providers are known to do periodic maintenance checks. If the Internet is down, the sync module will not be able to connect to Blink’s servers, thus rendering the cameras offline.

As a last resort when you find your Blink cameras are regularly going online, regardless of whether it’s happening during the day or at night, reset the sync module. Locate the reset button and press it. Do not just power cycle.

Blink Camera Night Vision Not Working

The great thing about Blink cameras is that they work well at night. Infrared (IR) LEDs light up a focused area to allow recording of movement in the darkest of settings. But what do you do if you find that your Blink camera’s night vision isn’t working.

If a Blink Camera’s night vision is not working, go into the Blink app and find the Camera Settings page. Click on the camera that is having issues and tweak the IR LED controls and intensity levels. Then test the configuration, making adjustments if needed.

Inside the Blink app you can configure each Blink camera’s settings. By default, the Night Vision is set to Auto. This means that the camera’s Night Vision will only turn on at night when lighting is low.

You can change the control to be on always. This would be ideal for when a Blink camera is placed in dark areas such as attics or basements.

The IR intensity can be adjusted to determine how much the IR Illumination is projected. The settings can be configured to only three choices: Low, Medium, High.

You’ve set the IR control mode to “On,” but the Blink camera is only showing a black image.

One additional thing to consider is whether or not the camera’s IR Illuminator and sensor are blocked. Some people may choose to protect their cameras with a housing unit, and that cover can block these components. Or the camera’s IR is dirty and needs to be wiped clean.

Blink Camera Night Vision Blurry or Not Clear

Blink cameras have the ability to see and record at night. They use Infrared (IR) LEDs to illuminate objects in low light settings. However, sometimes the captured videos can appear blurry. What should you do in this case?

If your Blink camera’s night vision is blurry, it may be due to a dirty or smudged lens. Dust, fingerprints, or other debris on the lens can affect the clarity of the image. Gently clean the camera lens using a soft, lint-free cloth to remove any dirt or smudges and improve night vision clarity.

Another reason for blurry night vision on a Blink camera could be interference from external light sources. Nearby lights, such as streetlights or security lights, can cause a glare or reflection, affecting the camera’s infrared capability. To fix this, try repositioning the camera or adjusting its angle to minimize the interference from these external light sources.

Consider moving objects made with shiny metal, glass and tiles away from Blink cameras.

Blink Camera Night Vision Not Detecting Motion

Blink cameras are engineered to activate upon motion detection. This movement is then captured and may be replayed. However, motion detection does not always work.

If a Blink camera’s Night Vision is not detecting motion, first make sure the motion detecting setting is turned on and activity zones are activated. Each individual camera also needs to be turned on in the Blink app.

The Blink camera system also needs to be alarmed. It does not matter if motion and notifications are enabled if the system is not armed to detect motion.

Night Vision can be impaired if the IR Illuminator and sensor are blocked by dirt and debris. Make sure both are clear.

Sometimes an unstable Internet connection is the cause of the Blink cameras not working. You might need to move the sync module closer to the router. A restart or a reset of the sync module may be required.

Lastly, make sure you are running the latest version of the Blink app.

The motion detection feature may not be working because battery-saving limitations are activated, a new software update is causing a glitch, the motion detection setting hasn’t been turned on, or the camera placement is off.

Blink Camera not Recording at Night

Blink cameras let you monitor the live stream as well as save video recordings. However, sometimes the camera may fail to record. If that’s the case, what should you do?

If a Blink camera is not recording at night check the Night Vision settings in the Blink app. Make sure the Control setting is set to either Auto or On and the Intensity level to High. You can test the configuration in Live Mode, and adjust accordingly.

An Infrared (IR) LED light illuminates the area where the camera is pointing and allows it to display or capture movement when it is dark.

You can adjust the sensitivity of the IR in the Blink cameras settings by going into the Blink camera and selecting the specific camera you want to troubleshoot.

Make sure the IR illuminator is clean and clear. The sensor needs to be unobstructed. If there are tree branches or building structures blocking the view of the camera, the recording will not be ideal.

While you’re in the Blink app and in the Camera settings, check to make sure the camera to Internet connection is strong. Weak connectivity between the Sync Module and the cameras can impair the systems operation.

One last option to try is to disable the battery saving option. This is done in the Blink app under the Battery section. When the battery saving option is enabled, the camera’s response time is slowed down.
