Bosch Dishwasher Not Opening Properly

If you have a Bosch dishwasher, of course, you expect it to be able to clean and dry as well as you could if you were handwashing dishes. Even more simplistic than this though, you expect the door of your dishwasher to open properly so that process can ensue.

If your Bosch dishwasher is not opening properly, a broken door lock could be the problem, check to see if the dishwasher door is flush with your cabinet face, confirm that the top mounting brackets are able to clear the door, and be sure that the side rubber strips are not pulled too tightly.

If you have a Bosch dishwasher, the entire purpose of this appliance is to be able to clean dishes as well, if not better, than you are able to when washing by hand – to be able to have a hands-off approach to keeping your dishes sparkling clean. However, some bosch dishwasher owners have encountered problems, not with washing effectively, but with the door not opening as it should. If you have a dishwasher door that isn’t opening properly, continue reading below.

Bosch Dishwasher Not Opening

If there is going to be any cleaning when it comes to using your dishwasher, the first action that has to take place is the ability of the door to open so you can actually load the dishes. This may seem like an irrelevant consideration, but if the door of your dishwasher doesn’t open, how could you possibly go forward with getting a load done? If you have a Bosch dishwasher and the door will not open, read below to see what might be causing such an inconvenient problem.

If your Bosch dishwasher isn’t opening, a twerked or broken door lock could be the cause of the problem. When you close the door, you should be able to hear a latch engage with the lock itself. Therefore, if you had not previously noticed this, the door lock may need to be repaired.

With many household repairs, even small repairs within your dishwasher, many individuals are able to repair the problem on their own with a bit of research, trial, and error. However, when it comes to the door lock of your dishwasher, this piece is an essential part of the washing process, as the door locking is what allows the signal from your dishwasher to be sent when a wash is selected. Therefore, consider hiring a professional if this piece needs to be repaired.

Bosch Dishwasher Auto Open Not Working

One of the biggest complaints of many dishwasher owners is that, although their dishes come out clean, they come out wet, forcing them to hand dry the items or leave them in the dishwasher for an unnecessarily long amount of time to finish drying. However, many Bosch dishwashers have an Auto Open feature that, once the cycle has finished, opens the door so condensation is able to escape from the open area the door automatically provides.

If your Bosch dishwasher auto open feature is not working, it could be that the door is experiencing negative contact with the cabinet face. To see if this is the problem, open the door and check if it is flush with the cabinet or set back from the cabinet, which could cause interference.

If the door is set back from the cabinet, this may be the issue causing the auto open feature to not engage. Pull the dishwasher out and be sure that the door is flush with the cabinet face so that there is no obstruction in the way of the door when auto open engages. If the door is flush with the cabinet face, the door lock may be the problem and as previously noted, this type of repair is encouraged to come from a professional rather than a do-it-yourself attempt.

Bosch Dishwasher Keeps Popping Open

When you are loading and unloading your Bosch dishwasher, of course, you want the door to open all the way so you are able to have complete access to all racks and contents within. However, when you are not actively managing your dishwasher, there is no need for the door to stay open, or open on its own. If you have a Bosch dishwasher and it keeps popping open without any action from you, read below to see what you can do to stop this.

If your Bosch dishwasher keeps popping open, check to make sure the top mounting brackets are not obstructing the door and confirm that the rubber strips on both sides of the dishwasher aren’t pulled too tight, as both of these can cause the door to come open on its own.

First, look at the top mounting brackets that sit right on the top frame of your dishwasher. These brackets should be able to easily clear the door, but if they do not, can cause pushback, which will thus, cause the door to open on its own. Next, check to see if the rubber strips on the side of the dishwasher are pulled too tightly. If they are, either find a way to loosen them or install a longer strip that will give more room for the material to relax.

Bosch Dishwasher Door Won’t Stay Open

A Bosch dishwasher door that won’t stay open typically results from worn or damaged door springs. These springs counterbalance the door’s weight, ensuring it remains in place when opened. To address this issue, safely remove the dishwasher’s kick plate, inspect the door springs, and replace them if they appear stretched or broken.

Maladjusted or misaligned door hinges can also be the culprit behind a Bosch dishwasher door that refuses to remain open. Over time, these hinges can become misaligned due to regular use. To resolve, ensure the dishwasher is turned off and unloaded, then adjust the door hinges to ensure they are correctly aligned and seated.

A faulty door latch or catch can contribute to the door’s inability to stay open on a Bosch dishwasher. The latch mechanism may wear out or become misaligned, affecting the door’s balance. Inspect the latch and catch for visible signs of wear. If they seem damaged, replacing the parts can help restore the door’s functionality.

Bosch Dishwasher Soap Dispenser Does Not Open

Outside of the essential function of the door of your Bosch dishwasher, is the proper function of the soap dispenser within it. Although your dishes need a door that closes, water that runs, and water pressure that has enough force to remove grime, the soap dispenser must be able to open so that the cleaning system can work to not only clean, but sanitize your dishes as well. If the soap dispenser on your dishwasher doesn’t open, how can you fix it?

If your Bosch dishwasher soap dispenser doesn’t open, inspect around and within the dispenser to see if there is any built-up soap residue. Over time, soap can easily build up, seep out, and harden, which can cause the soap dispenser to stick when it should be opening.

If you see that the soap dispenser is clean or you clean the area out and it is still not opening, pay attention to how the dishwasher was loaded when this problem occurred. If you load the bottom rack with tall items or stack multiple items on top of one another, they can either be jostled and pushed up against the dispenser or can be so crowded that the dispenser is blocked from the beginning. If this is the case, the soap dispenser will not open until the items have moved.

Bosch Dishwasher Keeps Running With Door Open

If you have the door of your Bosch dishwasher open, it can be assumed that you are either loading or unloading dishes from the appliance, which means that it should not be running. Strangely enough, some Bosch dishwasher owners have encountered a problem with their dishwasher continuing to run even when the door is ajar. If this is something you are experiencing, take a look below to see what can be done to stop this problem.

If your Bosch dishwasher keeps running with the door open, it is likely that the flood switch has been tripped. If this happens, it is likely caused by a small amount of standing water within the pan of your dishwasher, which results in the dishwasher running continuously even when open.

To fix a tripped flood switch, cut power to your dishwasher and remove the bottom rack. Once you have the rack removed, you can then remove the kick plate which is under the door to which you will see the pan of the dishwasher. At this point, you will take absorptive towels and place them within the pan so that any remaining water will be absorbed. Once all the water is out, the float switch will deactivate and the dishwasher should stop running.

Bosch Dishwasher Door Doesn’t Stay Open

You may not be having problems with your dishwasher running while the door is open, but might be experiencing quite the opposite issue when it comes to door malfunctions: a door that will not stay open. When loading and unloading a dishwasher, you need to be able to keep the door open so that dishes will remain level, no sliding occurs, and easy access is given especially to the bottom rack. If your dishwasher door won’t stay open, what might be the cause?

If your Bosch dishwasher door doesn’t stay open, it could be that the tension in the springs used to open and close the door is too tight. This can be fixed by loosening the screws that hold the springs, as this allows for a bit more stretch when the door opens.

A door that won’t stay open can also be caused by simply not pulling the bottom rack all the way out. For newer models, the door itself can be relatively light, which means that there may need to be a bit of weight on the door to keep it from coming up. This doesn’t mean that you need to have a full load on the bottom rack of the dishwasher at all times, but simply pull the rack all the way out, even when it is empty, to give a bit of weight to the door itself.

Bosch Dishwasher Inlet Valve Not Opening

dishwasher with plates and utensils

The inlet valve on a dishwasher is what is used to bring water into the appliance to be heated before the washing process begins. The inlet valve is a small piece, but the function of this item is essential when it comes to having cleaned and sanitized dishes. If you have a Bosch dishwasher and the inlet valve is not working, what might be causing the problem and what can you do to get this piece up and running again?

If the inlet valve on your Bosch dishwasher isn’t opening, it could be that the opening is obstructed by debris build up. Locate the inlet valve and check the opening on it to see if there are any obstructions. If so and they can be easily removed, carefully attempt to lightly clean the area.

It is important to note that inlet valves are incredibly sensitive when it comes to tampering, which is why it can be such a problem when they are obstructed by even the smallest amount of debris. If you have to do more than gently brush away any obstructions, the valve will likely need to be replaced by a professional. This item cannot be repaired, therefore, a replacement must take place if a brief and gentle clearing doesn’t allow it to reopen.

Bosch Dishwasher Door Won’t Open All the Way

If you are trying to get a load of dishes into the bottom rack and you have a sink full of plates, silverware, dirty flower vases, and a slew of different pots and pans, you need to be able to access every single inch of that rack. For most, this is not usually an issue, but for some Bosch dishwasher owners, they have found that their door simply will not open all the way. If you are finding yourself in this predicament, read on to see what you can do.

If your Bosch dishwasher door won’t open all the way, the problem is likely caused by door springs that are too tight. If there is too much tension in the springs, the door will continue to stay only partially opened until the screws on the springs are loosened to allow for more slack.

If your Bosch dishwasher isn’t opening properly, be sure there is no damage to the door lock, confirm that nothing is obstructing the soap dispenser once the cycle has started, check to see if the flood switch is tripped, and see if the spring tension is wound too tight on the door.
