Chromecast YouTube Not Working

If you do not have a smart TV that is capable of accessing YouTube directly within its own settings, you still have the option to gain access to those applications through the use of Chromecast. If YouTube is not working on Chromecast, what can you do to fix the issue?

If Chromecast Youtube is not working, be sure that Chromecast has been enabled properly on your television, that it is securely inserted into an HDMI port, that both devices are connected to the same internet, and that Chromecast is not being used on another device, among other solutions.

Chromecast affords users the ability to have access to smart device applications, without actually having a smart TV. Not only does this allow them to keep older electronics, it also allows them to take their content with them wherever there is an HDMI port and smartphone available. With more than one billion hours watched per day on YouTube, this app can be sorely missed when it is no longer working on Chromecast, therefore, what is the solution?

Chromecast YouTube Not Working

By purchasing Chromecast, owners are able to have access to a digital world that their current TV does not provide. This means you can cast a variety of different applications directly from your phone to your TV screen, while also still having access to any other features that your current TV hosts. One of the most used apps within Chromecast is YouTube, making it rather difficult when it suddenly stops working.

If Chromecast Youtube is not working, be sure that you have enabled Chromecast on your TV. To do this, plug in Chromecast to an HDMI port on your TV and visit chromecast.com/setup. You will then connect Chromecast to your WiFi network and tap the Cast button in a Cast-enabled app.

If you have confirmed that you have gone through the proper setup steps but are still experiencing problems with the device not working, check to make sure that it is securely inserted into the HDMI port on your TV. If it is even slightly pulled from this port, it can cause the connection to fail which will result in Chromecast refusing to work properly or work at all.

Chromecast Icon Not Showing Up/Available/Found On YouTube

Once you have Chromecast set up on your TV, you should be able to open just about any application and cast it straight to your screen by simply pressing the Chromecast Icon within it. This icon is small, but it is the most necessary step to connecting your phone directly to your TV. If you open the YouTube app, you should see the Chromecast icon right at the bottom of your screen, but what do you do if it is not showing up or not available?

If the Chromecast icon is not showing up, is not available, or cannot be found on YouTube, be sure that both your smartphone and Chromecast are connected to the same WiFi network. If your devices are on different networks, it will prevent the icon from appearing.

If you have connected both devices to the same network or know that both devices are currently on the same network but are still not seeing the Chromecast icon, be sure that Chromecast is not being used by another device. If another separate device is already connected to Chromecast, it will prevent your current device from showing the icon. Check to make sure that all of your devices have been disconnected, then try YouTube again.

YouTube Not Connecting To Chromecast

When using Chromecast with YouTube, there must be a connection that allows the app to go from the screen of your smartphone to the screen of your TV. This connection should only take a few seconds, but without it, you will not be able to access the content within YouTube through the use of Chromecast. Therefore, if you find that YouTube shows the Chromecast icon but is not connecting, what do you need to do to resolve the issue?

If YouTube is not connecting to Chromecast, disconnect your phone from WiFi and close completely out of the Chromecast app. Once it is no longer running, open the Chromecast app back up and reconnect your phone to WiFi to allow for a sort of reset, which should cause a connection to come back.

If you complete these steps and YouTube is still not connecting to Chromecast, you may need to reset your modem or router. To do this, unplug either directly from their power source and allow it to sit for at least 60 seconds. Once this time has passed, plug your modem or router back into the wall and allow it to reset, then try once again to see if YouTube will connect to Chromecast without issue.

Chromecast Won’t Play YouTube

If you are able to open YouTube within the Chromecast app, can click on the casting icon within YouTube, and are then able to see the same screen on your smartphone mirrored directly to your TV, you would think it would be just as easy to play a video within this application. However, if you go through each of these steps perfectly but are then met with a video that will not play, is there a way to get things back into working order quickly?

If Chromecast won’t play YouTube, check to make sure that both of your devices are up to date with the latest software. For a phone, updates can be checked and installed manually. With Chromecast, the updates come automatically, therefore, if your Chromecast has not received the update yet, this could be causing your YouTube play issues.

If both devices have been updated and you are still having trouble playing YouTube on Chromecast, check to make sure that your TV has been updated with the latest firmware as well. This is going to vary from model to model, therefore, check your owner’s manual to see how to go about initiating and installing a firmware update without having to complete any sort of factory reset to get the application running smoothly.

Chromecast YouTube Sound/Audio/Volume Not Working – No Sound or Lag

The beauty of being able to cast content from YouTube through Chromecast directly to your TV is that the picture and audio align perfectly and in real-time. This allows users to have the same video or audio experience from their TV that they get directly on their smart device. However, if you are casting a video from YouTube through Chromecast and notice that the sound is not working, is not there, or is lagging, take a look below to find the fix.

If Chromecast YouTube sound, audio, or volume is not working or there is no sound or lagged sound, Chromecast may need to be rebooted. To do this, open the Google Home app on your device > select your device > ‘Settings’ > ‘More’ > ‘Reboot’ and this will reboot Chromecast for you.

If you are still having issues with the audio of YouTube while using Chromecast, be sure that you have the volume on your phone turned on and up. If your phone is turned to a silent setting or the volume has been turned completely down, it can cause the volume to appear as if it is not working. Simply use the volume rocker on your smartphone to increase the volume as you normally would when using that device.
