Keyboards are an essential part of computers, both desktops and laptops. Without them, you wouldn’t be able to search for the lyrics of that new song you heard on the radio, type out a heart-felt birthday message to post on your best friend’s Facebook wall, or start that vampire love story novel that you’ve been putting on the backburner for sometime. So, when your Dell desktop keyboard stops working, it’s only natural to feel a little bit angry.

When your Dell desktop keyboard isn’t working, the issue is usually caused by a connectivity problem with either the wireless USB receiver or USB cable. Unplug the USB cord or USB receiver from your computer and turn off Dell desktop.

Before disconnecting the keyboard, make sure to save anything you are currently working on and then close all open programs. Once these steps have been completed, you can restart the computer. If you have a wireless keyboard, you may also want to install new batteries as low or dead batteries can cause the keyboard not to work properly.

When the Dell desktop keyboard letters aren’t working, it pretty much turns this once useful device into a waste of space. Before you toss the keyboard into the trash and shell out money for a new one, consider checking the keyboard driver.

If your Dell desktop keyboard letters are not working, the issue may be with a corrupted driver. This will require uninstalling the keyboard driver from your Dell desktop and then having Windows automatically reinstall the driver.

To uninstall the driver, open your Control Panel located in the Start menu. Click on Device Manager and scroll down until you see the Keyboard section. Click on Keyboard and then right mouse click on the offending keyboard. A pop-up box will appear. Select Uninstall device to uninstall the driver.

Once the driver has been completely uninstalled, restart your computer. Windows will automatically reinstall the driver.

Dell Desktop Keyboard Locked

There are several reasons as to why your Dell desktop keyboard is locked. It could be a glitch that is freezing the keyboard making it appear as if it is locked, or you may have accidentally hit a combination of keys that resulted in the device becoming locked. No matter what the cause, you will need to unlock the keyboard before you can use it again.

A Dell desktop keyboard that is locked can usually be fixed by restarting the computer. Once the computer is back up and running, the keyboard will no longer be locked. This works even if a program that is currently running on the desktop is causing the keyboard to lock up.

If you’re still having issues unlocking the keyboard, try uninstalling and reinstalling the keyboard driver. It is not uncommon for outdated drivers to cause the keyboard to not work properly.

Another option if the keyboard still won’t unlock is to reach out to Dell customer service. They can assist with other potential troubleshooting steps that may fix the problem. If the issue with the keyboard is one that cannot be fixed, you will need to replace it with a new device.

The PrintScreen key gives you the ability to quickly take a screenshot of your computer screen. This function comes in handy for people of all ages, including for work or school reasons.

When the Dell desktop keyboard print screen isn’t working, the issue is usually caused by accidentally disabling the option. If the Dell computer has an F lock key or F mode on its keyboard, simply press the button to unlock and enable the PrintScreen key.

You can also try shutting down the Dell desktop and waiting a few minutes before turning the computer back on. Let the desktop boot up completely and then try the Print Screen button. In most cases, a simple restart will clear glitches that can cause the Print Screen key to lock up.

You’re in a time crunch because you have a paper for your philosophy class due tomorrow that is worth half of your grade in that class. You turn on your Dell desktop and load your writing software, but your keyboard refuses to type!

If the Dell desktop keyboard isn’t typing, the keyboard driver is probably out-of-date. This will require you to visit the official Dell website and check for the latest keyboard driver for your computer. Once you find it, it will need to be downloaded and installed.

In order to get the latest driver, you will need to know the model of Dell desktop you have. If you’re unsure of this information, check on the back of your computer tower or refer to your Dell desktop owner’s manual.

When the Dell desktop has a keyboard initialization failure, it is typically because a key was pressed during the computer’s startup process. While seeing this message can be nerve-wrecking, in most cases, the keyboard will work just fine after the operating system has booted up.

In order for the keyboard to function as intended, you will not only have to connect it to the Dell desktop, but the computer will also need to recognize the keyboard. So, what are you to do if your Dell computer cannot recognize your wireless or wired keyboard?

When the Dell desktop isn’t recognizing the keyboard, the driver will need to be uninstalled from the computer and then reinstalled. Once you have the driver uninstalled, simply restart the Dell desktop and your computer will install the missing driver automatically.

Dell Desktop Wireless Keyboard Not Working

Wireless keyboards can be a blessing and a curse. After all, you don’t have to deal with unnecessary cords and cables, like their wired counterparts. However, you can be left without a working keyboard when the batteries die.

When your Dell desktop wireless keyboard isn’t working, the first thing to check is to ensure the batteries are not low or dead. Replace the batteries if needed and then test the keyboard. If it is still not working, unplug the USB receiver from the computer.

Allow the wireless keyboard to stay disconnected from the Dell desktop for several minutes before inserting the USB receiver back into the computer. If your wireless keyboard connects to the Dell desktop via Bluetooth, manually disconnect the keyboard from your computer and wait several minutes before reconnecting.

Dell Desktop Wired Keyboard Not Working

Black keyboard monitor

The entire purpose of a keyboard is to give the user the ability to type, whether it is in a search bar or a word document. So, when your wired keyboard stops working, it can leave you frustrated trying to figure out what the problem is.

When your Dell desktop wired keyboard isn’t working, check to ensure all cables running from the keyboard to the computer are connected and secured. Just one of these cables not completely inserted into the keyboard or computer can cause the wired keyboard not to work.

If your still having issues with the wired keyboard not working, your next step is to check to ensure the keyboard drivers are up-to-date. Visit the official Dell website to check for any updates for the keyboard driver. If updates are available, download and install the drivers.

Another potential option that could cause the wired keyboard to stop working is an internal issue with the device itself. Unfortunately, keyboards are not designed to last a lifetime and it isn’t uncommon for them to give out even if they are less than a year old. In this instance, the wired keyboard will need to be replaced.
