Dell Monitors come equipped with a series of buttons that are designed to make using and adjusting the setting on your monitor easier. There are multiple buttons and each is designed to carry out a different task. Like with all technology though, you may occasionally run into issues with your Dell Monitor buttons not working the way that they should.

If your Dell Monitor buttons are not working, there are a few issues that you may be facing. This can be related to electronic issues, such as loose cables or a burned-out fuse in your monitor’s hard drive. You can also experience issues with your buttons due to debris or dust being stuck in them.

Depending on what issues your Dell Monitor is facing when it comes to the buttons on the screen, there are a few ways that you can troubleshoot the issue. The good news is that many of these are easy to troubleshoot on your own. So let’s look at some of the common issues that are facing your Dell Monitor and how to fix them.

When it comes to troubleshooting the power button on your Dell Monitor, it can seem like a big task. The good news is that the internal circuit board of your monitor is relatively easy to navigate. If your power button is not working, you need to look deeper than just the buttons on your monitor.

If your Dell Monitor power button is not working when you press it, it is troubleshooting if you have to access the electronics inside of your Dell Monitor. You can remove the back of your monitor by carefully pulling up all of the edges. Once you do so, you will see a control panel that is connected by many different wires.

Unplug these wires and unscrew that back panel. Inside you will find the motherboard that controls your Dell Monitor’s power button. The first step is to check and see that there is power running to your monitor’s circuit board. You can test it using an electronic meter.

If there is no power, then you are facing an issue most likely related to one of the cable connectors. You can easily replace those if they are damaged. If there is no damage, clean out the area where your monitor’s circuit board connects to the panel that houses your Dell Monitor’s buttons.

If dust and debris get into these connectors, it can cause them to fail. You can clean these out with compressed air, be sure to hold them at least ten inches away to prevent damage to your monitor.

If you go to press your power button on your Dell Monitor and it doesn’t work, the first thing that you should do is to make sure that your monitor is plugged in. You should not only check to make sure that the cables are connected securely but also check to see if the outlet that you are using has power. If your monitor has power, there are a few other issues that you may be facing.

If your Dell Monitor power button is not working, you should reset your monitor. Unplug your monitor from all cables and power sources. Press and hold the ‘Menu’ button on your monitor. This should bring up a settings menu. Once on this menu, scroll down to where you see ‘Reset to Factory Defaults’. Select this option and press ‘Okay’.

What this does is it will erase any of the adjustments that you have made to the monitor and will restore it to the same setting that you had when you first took it out of the box. Oftentimes, the power button will stop working because of a cross-in signal, but running a factory reset can solve that issue.

If this solution does not work, you will have to access the electronics inside of your Dell Monitor to make sure that all of the connections from your monitor are a circuit board to your button panel. To remove the back panel, first, remove the four screws. Make sure that the monitor is unplugged first.

Once the screws are off, you can carefully pry through the edges of the monitor to lift them. Inside you will find a box that holds the monitor circuit board. There is a ribbon cable that is connected to the circuit board and the button panel. If that ribbon cord is damaged, it will need to be replaced. Make sure that the cable is securely attached. It is a good idea to clean both the cable and the ports for any dust or debris. You can use compressed air to clean it out, just be sure to hold it at least ten inches away to prevent any damage from the pressure.

When it comes to your Dell Monitor, you may notice that one of a few of the buttons isn’t working. The menu button is a common button to run into issues. The good news is that you typically do not have to take apart your monitor to fix this issue.

If your Dell Monitor menu button is not working, your first step should be to run a reset. You want to first disconnect the cables that attach your monitor to your computer. Be sure to leave the power cord plugged in. Press and hold the menu button, and a screen should come up, letting you access the menu. You want to look for the section marked ‘reset’.

Select this. Your Dell Monitor should go dark for a few seconds before restarting. You can reconnect all of your cables. Test the menu button to see if it is working correctly again.

If this does not solve the issue, you may want to access the area behind your buttons on the inside of your monitor. If your menu button is loose or displaced, the button won’t work for you.

Your Dell Monitor buttons can become locked. This prevents you from not only using your menu button but also from changing the settings on your Dell Monitor. If your Dell Monitor menu button is locked, there are a few simple tricks that you can do to unlock the button.

If your Dell Monitor button is locked, your settings will be locked into their current setup. To unlock it, press and hold the menu button for at least 15 seconds until you see an image of an open lock. Once this image comes up you will be able to change your setting and access your menu.

If you make changes and save them, this will lock your menu settings again. If you need to access your monitor’s settings again, you can repeat this process.

If you go to turn on your Dell Monitor and your power button doesn’t work, first make sure that your Dell Monitor is connected to a working power source. Check to see that all cables are properly secured and the outlet that you are using has power. You can test this by plugging another electronic into the outlet to see if this works if you do not have an electronic meter. If the power is working properly there are a couple of other steps that you can take.

If your Dell Monitor button is stuck, you will notice that when you press it, it won’t allow you to, unlike all of the other buttons on your Dell Monitor. What you want to do is place your monitor flat and start from the opposite corner of your monitor’s buttons. From there, you want to use your fingers to pry up the half-inch of plastic that surrounds your monitor.

You want to continue pulling up the part that is opposite from the buttons on your monitor first. This plastic is thick, so while you should be careful, you are unlikely to cause any damage to it. Pull up the entire piece until you reach the buttons. Here is where you need to be a little more careful. The buttons have a ribbon cable that is attached to the monitor’s circuit board.

Slowly lift the plastic, being sure to not pull out the ribbon cable. You’ll find four screws. Remove those to reach the circuit board for your Dell Monitor’s buttons. You want to be sure to do this as gently as possible as you don’t want to damage the ribbon cable. Once the screws are off, you can disconnect the ribbon cable and remove the plastic completely.

With this off, you can access the back of the button circuit board. You can see if there is any damage to the power button from that point. The power button is connected by a couple of small hinges. If these are broken they need to be replaced.

The hinges work with a small flap, which allows you to press the power button and have it pressed in. If it is too damaged, you can remove the power button altogether and use a small object to turn on your monitor.
