How To Use KitchenAid Refrigerator Ice Maker

KitchenAid is a well-known brand in the home appliance industry. Their refrigerators are available in a wide array of styles and models, with various features, such as a water dispenser and an ice maker.

To use a KitchenAid refrigerator ice maker, the fridge will first need to be hooked up to the water supply. Once the fridge is connected to the water line, turn on the ice maker to start the ice-making process. It can take about 24 hours before the fridge has made enough ice to use.

Since each model of KitchenAid refrigerator ice makers has their own usage instructions, it’s always best to reference the owner’s manual that came with the appliance. This manual is designed specifically for that model and will provide you with the exact information you need to use your KitchenAid refrigerator ice maker.

How To Test KitchenAid Refrigerator Ice Maker

You can test the KitchenAid refrigerator ice maker whenever an issue arises with the appliance. This simple diagnostic test can help determine what is causing the problems with the ice maker.

Some KitchenAid refrigerator ice maker models have the ability to run a diagnostic test on the appliance. Press and hold the diagnostic test or software button for about 5 seconds. After the allotted time, release the button. The display will show the results via a diagnostic code.

Not all Kichenaid refrigerators have the ability to run these tests, but you can confirm whether your model has the ability by referring to your owner’s manual. The owner’s manual will also provide you with what the diagnostic codes are if your fridge can run these tests.

How To Turn On KitchenAid Refrigerator Ice Maker

Before you can take advantage of fresh ice at your disposal, you will need to know how to turn the KitchenAid refrigerator ice maker on.

Turning on a KitchenAid refrigerator ice maker typically requires opening the freezer door, finding the on/off switch or button, and then setting the switch or button to the “ON” position. For models without this button or switch, you may have to lower the wire shutoff arm to turn the ice maker on.

Keep in mind that it can take about 24 hours after turning the ice maker back on before the appliance begins to make ice again. Some models take less than that timeframe, but most will have made a good amount of ice within the 24 hour time period.

How To Turn Off KitchenAid Refrigerator Ice Maker

Whenever it’s time to clean the ice maker, you will need to first turn the KitchenAid refrigerator ice maker off.

You can manually turn off the KitchenAid refrigerator ice maker by turning the on/off switch to the “Off” position. If your model doesn’t have an on/off button, simply lift the wire shutoff arm on the ice maker to turn it off. You should hear a click when it is in the “Off” position.

Ice makers typically have an automatic shutoff that prevents the appliance from making too much ice. As the ice maker creates the ice cubes, the ice begins to fill the ice storage bin, which also starts to raise the shutoff arm. When the wire shutoff arm reaches the off position, it will automatically turn off the ice maker. The ice maker won’t start making ice again until some of the ice cubes are removed from the ice storage bin.

How To Unlock KitchenAid Refrigerator Ice Maker

Some KitchenAid refrigerators feature a control lock feature. This prevents the ice maker and/or water dispenser from dispensing any ice or water when the buttons are pressed. This is a useful feature, especially if you have little kids that like to push buttons. But how can you unlock the KitchenAid refrigerator ice maker when the control lock feature is engaged?

You can unlock a locked KitchenAid refrigerator ice maker by pressing and holding the lock button. Keep the button held down until the display screen shows that the dispenser is unlocked. To relock the ice maker, press and hold the lock button for 3 seconds.

Remember, however, that the exact instructions for unlocking the ice maker vary from one model to the next. That is why it is important to check your owner’s manual to find the exact steps for your fridge.

How To Reset KitchenAid Refrigerator Ice Maker

Ice makers are not immune to glitches and malfunctions, which can prevent the appliance from working as it was intended. Resetting the ice maker can quickly fix some of the small problems associated with glitches.

To reset the KitchenAid refrigerator ice maker, press the tab located on the door jamb, which will turn the light inside the fridge off. Close the freezer door and wait for at least 10 minutes before opening the door. Tap the freezer door’s switch 3 times and then close the door.

Let the appliance sit for 30 seconds. The ice maker will be reset. Some models may also have blinking lights on the display. These lights will turn off when the ice maker is reset.

How To Remove KitchenAid Refrigerator Ice Maker

Whether you need to give the ice maker a good cleaning, have to repair a part of the ice maker, or just need to replace it, you will need to know how to remove the ice maker from the KitchenAid refrigerator.

Removing the KitchenAid refrigerator ice maker requires disconnecting the appliance from power, removing the ice bucket, removing the entire ice maker assembly, and then unscrewing the ground wires and wire harness.
