KitchenAid Refrigerator Ice Maker Troubleshooting (Not Working/Need A Fix)

Despite it being a well-loved brand of home appliances, KitchenAid is not immune to problems, glitches, and malfunctions that prevent the appliance from working properly. This includes KitchenAid refrigerator ice makers. Some refrigerators feature an ice maker that gives you the ability to automatically make ice right inside your own freezer. When the fridge experiences a problem, however, the ice maker may not be able to work as intended.

A few ways to troubleshoot your KitchenAid refrigerator ice maker include turning the ice maker off and then back on, resetting the ice maker, changing the filter, flushing the water supply line, cleaning the ice maker, and unjamming the ice maker’s ejector arm.

The first place to start when a problem arises with your ice maker is its owner’s manual. The owner’s manual generally has a troubleshooting guide designed specifically for your model of KitchenAid refrigerator.

KitchenAid Refrigerator Not Making Ice

A fridge ice maker not making ice is a red flag that the appliance has a problem that you should address as soon as possible. Keep reading to learn what issues could cause the ice maker to not produce ice cubes.

When the KichenAid refrigerator is not making icing, the first place to check is the water supply line. Ensure that the fridge is connected to the cold water supply. If it is properly connected, check that the shutoff valve is completely open.

Additionally, make sure that the water supply line doesn’t have any kinks in it. Kinks can reduce the water flow and prevent the ice maker from making ice.

KitchenAid Refrigerator Ice Maker Slow

Is your KitchenAid refrigerator ice maker running slower than normal? This isn’t just a sign that the maker is getting older, it is a sign that something is wrong with the appliance.

There are a few reasons as to why your KitchenAid refrigerator ice maker is slow, such as the water filter being incorrectly installed or the water supply line is clogged. Check to ensure the water filter is inserted correctly and then try the ice maker again.

If the ice maker is still slow after replacing the filter, check to ensure there are no clogs in the water supply line. If you find a clog, which will simply be a piece of ice in the line, unplug the fridge, move it from the wall, turn off the water supply at the valve, and then disconnect the water supply line from the fridge.

Hold a bucket under the line and use a hair dryer to carefully unfreeze the line. Let the water run into the bucket and then reattach the line.

Open the freezer and check to ensure there are no ice cubes jammed in the ice maker. If so, remove the stuck ice and then reset the lights.

If there is no jam, replace the water filter with a new one and then reset the ice maker. Make sure to check your owner’s manual for the exact type of water filter you need for your fridge model.

KitchenAid Refrigerator Ice Maker Frozen

When your KitchenAid refrigerator ice maker is frozen, it is usually not the actual ice maker itself, and is instead the water supply line running to the ice maker. Thankfully, this problem can be easily resolved by unthawing the line.

Avoid using too much heat as this can melt the hose. Once you have the frozen line unthawed, turn the freezer back on. You may want to increase the freezer temperature a little to help prevent the line from freezing again.
