LG Subwoofer Blinking (Good or Bad?)

Black subwoofer below the TV

Your LG Subwoofer is designed to boost the lowest frequencies of whatever audio you are listening to. Subwoofers aren’t only popular choices for listening to music, but many people have them as part of their home theater system. Your LG Subwoofer has a few LED lights that blink different colors.

If your LG Subwoofer is blinking, depending on the color, it is an indication that there is an issue with your subwoofer. Not all of the LED lights that are displayed on your subwoofer are bad, however. Some of the lights indicate that your subwoofer is working properly.

There are a few common LED light colors that you will see blink on your subwoofer. This may be a singular color or a combination of the two. To determine if your subwoofer is working properly and how to identify what the light colors mean, let’s look at what you might see displayed on your subwoofer.

LG Subwoofer Blinking Red (What is Red?)

One of the LED lights on your subwoofer is a red light. When this light is not flashing, it is an indication that your subwoofer is off. It can also mean that it is in standby mode. If the red light is not blinking, you have nothing to worry about. That is totally normal. However, if your LG Subwoofer’s red light is blinking, it is an indication that there is an issue with your subwoofer.

If your LG Subwoofer LED light is blinking red, this is a sign that your subwoofer is overheating. To prevent further damage, you want to turn off your subwoofer. After you’ve turned it off, check around your subwoofer to make sure that there are no objects that are obstructing the subwoofer vents.

Next, you want to unplug your LG Subwoofer from power. Let your subwoofer remain unplugged for a few minutes. This will give it time to cool down. Like with most electronics, when they overheat, you can often tell by feeling your subwoofer if it has cooled.

After you have given your subwoofer significant time to cool, you can plug it back into the outlet. Test your subwoofer by turning it on. The blinking red light should be gone. If it is still there, you plugged your LG Subwoofer back in too soon and it needs more time to cool down.

LG Subwoofer Won’t Stop Blinking Green (What is Green?)

The green LED light on your LG Subwoofer is an indication that your subwoofer is turned on. It also means that you have a secure link connected. When this LED light is solid, there is nothing to worry about. However, sometimes you may notice that the green light is blinking and won’t stop even after you turn off and on your LG Subwoofer.

If your LG Subwoofer’s green light won’t stop blinking it can mean two things. Either your secure link is currently on standby, due to a lack of available connections, or you may need to run a reset on your subwoofer.

To reset your subwoofer, look to the back of your subwoofer for the button marked ‘Pairing’. Press and hold that for at least 5 seconds. You want to see the green and red lights alternating with blinks. Once you see this, unplug your subwoofer, both the power cord and the wireless subwoofer cord.

Once all of your LED lights have turned off, you can connect to your subwoofer again. Turn back on your subwoofer and you should be able to connect to a secure link.

LG Subwoofer Keeps Blinking Yellow (What is Yellow?)

The yellow light on your LG Subwoofer is a sign that your LG Soundbar has been successfully paired with your LG Subwoofer. This light should be solid. If it is, then you can use your subwoofer without any issues with the signal. However, if your yellow light is blinking, you won’t be able to use your LG Subwoofer.

If your LG Subwoofer has a blinking yellow light, this means that there is a loss of signal. Your subwoofer is not paired with your LG Soundbar and you will be unable to get any signal from it. To solve this issue, you need to pair your LG Soundbar and your LG Subwoofer again.

On the back of your LG Subwoofer, press and hold the pairing button for at least five seconds. You want the LED lights to blink alternatively between red and green. After this, power down your subwoofer and disconnect it from all power sources. After a few minutes, you can reconnect your subwoofer and power it back on.

You mustn’t turn on your subwoofer until you see that all of the LED lights on your subwoofer have turned off. Once you turn it back on, this reset should have solved the issue with your pairing.

LG Subwoofer Blinking Orange (What is Orange?)

Similar to green, the orange light on your LG Subwoofer means that the subwoofer is on and a secure link has been established. If the orange LED light is solid, then your subwoofer should work just fine. If it is flashing, there are some issues that you need to address to continue using your subwoofer.

If your LG Subwoofer is blinking orange it is related to your secure link. The blinking indicates that your subwoofer is attempting to connect to the secure link, but has not been able to yet. Once your subwoofer successfully connects, the LED light will stop blinking and turn to solid orange.

LG Subwoofer Blinking Blue (What is Blue?)

The blue LED light on your subwoofer indicates that your LG Subwoofer is connected successfully. This is when you see a solid blue LED light. However, sometimes you may notice that your blue LED light is blinking, rather than remaining solid blue.

If your LG Subwoofer light is blinking, there are two issues that you may be facing. Your LG Subwoofer may not be receiving an input signal from your receiver. If that is the case, even if your subwoofer is on, you won’t hear any sound coming out of it. A blinking blue light can also be an indication that your amplifier has been damaged.

While not common, you can damage your subwoofer amplifier by giving it too much signal. This can cause your subwoofer to ‘blow’. In the case of a blinking light, you should first assume that it is related to your LG Subwoofers input, as subwoofers are designed to withstand high signal volumes.

When you are either pairing your LG Subwoofer to your LG Soundbar for the first time or if you are facing issues with your subwoofer not receiving a signal, you need to reconnect it.

If your LG Subwoofer has blinking green and red lights, this is a sign that the pairing process is underway. This is another way to pair your subwoofer, rather than using the remote. You want to press and hold the ‘Pairing’ button on the back of your subwoofer and you will see the lights blink between green and red.

Once the lights stop blinking, disconnect your subwoofer from power and let all of the LED lights turn off. Once they have, you can plug your subwoofer back into its power source and the reset should have fixed your pairing issue.

While the blue light on your LG Subwoofer means that it is connected successfully and receiving the signal, the red LED light on your subwoofer is a sign that the subwoofer is off or in standby mode. So what does it mean when both of those are blinking?

If your LG Subwoofer is blinking both blue and red lights, it is a sign that your signal is being affected. If your signal is constantly cutting in and out, you will get this combination of blinking LED lights. You should first check that your network and connection are working properly.

You can also run a reset to help your subwoofer refresh and connect to a secure signal more successfully.

When it comes to the LED lights on your subwoofer, not all of them mean that there is something wrong with your LG subwoofer. It is important to know what each of the colors means and to keep track of if they are blinking one color, or if they are alternating blinking two different colors. When it comes to your LG Subwoofer’s lights blinking, these are easy problems to fix.
