Roku TV Disney Plus Not Working

Disney Plus is a relatively new streaming platform that has been welcomed with open arms. However, as with anything new, there have been many problems that need to be fixed. If you have been struggling with Disney Plus not working on your Roku TV, this article contains several troubleshooting methods you can try to get it up and running again.

Disney Plus is not accessible on Roku in certain regions or with certain Roku devices. Also, it may not work if your WiFi connection is poor, your firmware is out of date or you have an overloaded cache. Audio/visual issues usually relate to the Roku’s ‘Audio Mode’ or ‘Display Type’ settings.

I will explain these in more detail below, including which specific regions and Roku devices are not compatible with Disney Plus. I have also listed a number of common things in the home that could interfere with your WiFi.

There are a number of general troubleshooting tips that you can try if your Disney Plus channel is not working on your Roku device. These methods, which you can find below, work for most problems. You should also consider troubleshooting your internet connection, which you can find later on in this article.

Restart Your Roku Device or Disney Plus

Restarting the Disney Plus channel or your Roku device can be all it takes for things to start working again. This is the easiest troubleshooting method and should be the first thing you try.

To restart Disney Plus, you just need to press the ‘Home’ button on your Roku remote and open the channel again. Restarting your Roku device is also very simple. Follow the pathway below and wait for the device to reboot.

Reinstall Disney Plus Channel

Reinstalling the Disney Plus channel will ensure that you are running the latest firmware and it will also clear the channel’s cache. I will talk more about the cache further down. Follow the steps below to reinstall the Disney Plus channel.

Step 1: Press the ‘Home’ button on your Roku remote.

Step 2: Find and highlight the Disney Plus channel. Do not open it.

Step 3: Press the ‘Options’ (*) button on your Roku remote.

Step 4: Select ‘Remove Channel’.

Step 5: Restart you Roku device.

Step 6: Search for Disney Plus again through ‘Streaming Channels’.

Step 7: Once you have found and selected it, choose ‘Add Channel’.

Hard Reset

A hard reset involves removing your Roku from its power source and draining all the residual charge from the device. This forces it to clear any short-term memory, including any small errors. To perform a hard reset on your Roku, follow the steps below.

Step 1: Unplug the Roku from your TV and from its power source.

Step 2: Wait 10 minutes to allow the device to fully discharge.

Step 3: Plug the Roku back into the TV and the power source.

This process is quite effective if the issue stems from your Roku device. It also does not clear any of your preferences or delete any of your downloaded channels.

Factory Reset

A factory reset is something that you should only do if you have tried all other troubleshooting methods. This is because it will return the Roku to its original settings from when you first purchased it.

This means you will lose all your downloaded content and all your preferences will be returned to their default settings. If you are happy to try a factory reset, follow the steps below.

Step 1: Press the ‘Home’ button on your Roku remote.

Step 2: Navigate to ‘Settings > System > Advanced System Settings’.

Step 3: Select ‘Factory Reset’ and follow the on-screen instructions.

Disney Plus is available on all Roku Smart TVs and therefore should show up in the channel store if it isn’t installed already. However, Disney Plus is not available on all stand-alone Roku devices. Below is a list of Roku devices that do not support Disney Plus.

· 2400

· 2450

· 2500

· 3000

· 3050

· 3100

· 3400

· 3420

Unfortunately if you have one of these models, you will not be able to download the Disney Plus channel onto your Roku. However, if you have an iOS device, you can use Airplay to mirror your Disney Plus channel from there to your Roku device.

If you cannot find Disney Plus and your Roku device should be compatible, it may be another cause. The Disney servers could be down or your internet may be slow or disconnected. You can find troubleshooting tips for this below.

Keep in mind that Disney Plus is also only available in certain regions. These regions include the United States, Canada, Latin America, Europe, Australia and New Zealand.

Roku Disney Plus Not Loading/Opening

If your Disney Plus channel is not loading, there is the possibility that the Disney servers are down. You can confirm this by checking websites such as Down Detector or by calling Disney Plus support directly. Sometimes there may be too many users accessing the servers at once, particularly if new content has just been released.

If the servers are working fine, you could try reinstalling the app with through the steps mentioned above. Otherwise, it may also be your internet connection. Below are several troubleshooting methods to fix your internet.

Restart Your Modem/Router

Restarting your modem and router is the easiest thing to do when your internet has stopped working or your WiFi signal is poor. Follow the steps below to do this in the correct order.

Step 1: Unplug your modem and router (if you have one) from their power source.

Step 2: Wait at least one minute.

Step 3: Plug your modem back into the power.

Step 4: Wait until the modem has fully rebooted.

Step 5: Plug your router back in to the power.

Step 6: Wait for the router to fully reboot before attempting to open or use the Disney Plus channel.

Check Your Internet Connection and Speed

You cannot check your internet speed through the Disney Plus channel, but you can check it through your Roku device. First, you will need to perform a network connection check. You can do this through the pathway below.

Settings > Network > Check Connection

If you are connected to your home internet, the results will read, ‘Connection check was successful’. In order to check your internet speed, you will then need to select ‘About’ from within the same network settings. These settings will outline many details about y0ur network, including the signal strength and download speed.

Both of these factors could affect the performance of the Disney Plus channel. For the best results, your signal strength should be ‘Excellent’.

In terms of download speed, you generally need at least 3MB/s to stream content in standard definition. However, Disney Plus recommends speeds of 5MB/s for high definition content or 25MB/s for 4K or ‘Ultra HD’ content.

Minimise Interference

There could be a number of reasons why your internet connection is poor or your download speed is too slow. It could be that you are being limited by the service provider. In this case, you will need to contact them for more options.

However, it could be something in the home that is disrupting the signal. First, make sure your modem or router is close enough to the Roku device. It should be no more than 30 feet away, but closer is always better.

Keep in mind that your TV can act as a barrier between the Roku and modem/router. Make sure your Roku device is sitting in an open space near the TV instead of tucked behind it. This may not be possible with a Roku Streaming stick, unless you have a HDMI extender.

There are also other things within the home that can cause this interference. Some common examples are listed below.

· Other WiFi networks or Bluetooth devices, such as headphones

· Baby monitors or other radio devices

· Microwaves

· Thick timber or concrete walls

· Large bodies of water, such as aquariums or hydronic heating systems.

Some of these things can be easy to remove form your home. However, if you suspect it is something like timber walls that is causing the issues, you can always try using a WiFi booster. This is a device that plugs into a power socket between your modem/router and Roku device to improve the signal strength.

Use an Ethernet Cable

If you are still struggling with your internet, you can try using an Ethernet cable instead. This type of internet connection is the most reliable and provides the fastest download speed available on your network. Follow the steps below to connect via an Ethernet cable.

Step 1: Connect your Roku device directly to your modem or router using the Ethernet cable.

Step 2: Navigate to ‘Settings > System > Network > Set Up Connection’.

Step 3: Select ‘Wired’ to connect via your Ethernet cable.

Some Roku devices do not have an Ethernet connection available. If this is the case, you could try using a USB/Ethernet adapter.

Roku Disney Plus Login/Sign-in/Sign-out Problems

Confused female in sleepwear wondering why TV remote is not working

The most common issue with logging in to Disney Plus on Roku is that it has continually logged users out. Fortunately, there have been a number of solutions, depending on the initial problem.

Firstly, if your Roku is powered by your TV via the USB cable, it may be powering off every time your TV shuts down. This has caused Disney to sign some users out of the Disney Plus channel. To fix this, use a power adapter with the USB cable to plug your Roku directly into a wall outlet.

Another cause is having two different Roku devices logged in to Disney Plus. Sometimes, when you purchase a new Roku device, they are assigned the same name in the Roku app. This confuses Disney Plus, causing it to sign you out.

To fix this, change the name of one of the devices in your Roku app. Keep in mind that it may have an error when renaming the devices. Continue to sign in with your normal email and it should let you proceed.

If you are having trouble signing in to Disney Plus, make sure your password is case sensitive. If you are able to log into Disney Plus on another device, such as a laptop, there may be an error with the Roku channel. In that case, try reinstalling the channel, detailed above.

There may also be problems with the Disney Plus servers. Unfortunately there is nothing that can be done while you wait for Disney to fix the issue.

The main issue Roku users have with Disney Plus audio related to their Roku audio settings. Disney Plus may have defaulted to Dolby Digital sound, which seems to be causing incompatibility issues. To fix this, you will need to change the ‘Sound Mode’ from ‘Auto’ to ‘Stereo’ through the pathway below.

Settings > Audio > Sound Mode > Stereo

You should also make sure you have run through the following troubleshooting for your volume.

· The volume is turned up on TV or speaker.

· You have turned the volume up on your Roku remote.

· Mute has been turned off for the TV or external speaker.

· The speaker cables are secure and in the correct ports.

· The speaker is turned on.

Disney Plus Keeps Freezing/Crashing on Roku

The Disney Plus channel will likely crash if the cache is too full or contains outdated data. The cache is a temporary storage area for your Disney Plus channel where data is stored to help the channel load faster when you use it.

You cannot directly clear the cache on a Roku device, but you can just reinstall the channel to achieve the same thing. This process is detailed at the beginning of the article.

You may also find that Disney Plus will freeze if the firmware is out of date or you are experiencing internet problems. You can find troubleshooting information for this above.

Another way of preventing your stream from freezing is to decrease the quality of the video. Disney Plus offers ‘High’, ‘Medium’ or ‘Standard’ options for video quality. Follow the steps below to select ‘Standard’ to minimize any chance of freezing.

Step 1: Open the Disney Plus channel.

Step 2: Navigate to ‘Profile > App Settings > Video Playback > Video Quality’.

Step 3: Select ‘Standard’.

Roku Disney Plus Black/Blank Screen/No Picture

The blank screen on Disney Plus means that the channel is stuck trying to connect to the Disney Plus servers. This could either mean that your internet is not working or that the Disney Servers are down.

Calling Disney Plus support, or using a website such as Down Detector, will tell you if there are any issues with the server. Otherwise, you should try reinstalling the Disney Plus channel or troubleshooting your network with the methods mentioned above.

If you find that you still have no picture when you press the ‘Home’ button, you should check the connection between your Roku and your TV. You may even benefit from trying a different HDMI port in the back of the TV.

You should also make sure that the display resolution is the same for both Roku and your TV. This is difficult if you cannot see the Roku screen, but you should be able to adjust your TV display settings.
