There is no point paying for the Hulu streaming service if you can’t even login. Many people have experienced issues with logging into Hulu, but some of these issues can be resolved. In this article, I have listed a number of common issues with the Hulu login and how they can be fixed so you can make the most of your Hulu subscription.
The Hulu login will not work if your credentials are incorrect, your subscription has expired or the account is not activated. You also must use your home network or be within 30 days of ‘check-in’. Certain browsers, ad blockers, a full cache, outdated firmware and poor internet can also contribute.
I will explain how to fix each of these issues below. Most people don’t realise that they need to be connected to check-in to their home network for Hulu to work, but there are workarounds for this too.
Hulu Login Blocked
Check your Credentials
The most simple explanation for being unable to login to your Hulu account is invalid credentials. You need to make sure your email address is the one you used to sign up to Hulu and that you are entering your password as a case-sensitive password.
Your password may have been reset recently, so check your emails for any messages from Hulu. If you think you have forgotten your password, you can reset it and follow the instructions sent to your email address. Sometimes these emails may be sent to your junk mail.
If you have forgotten your email address and you don’t receive any emails from Hulu after resetting the password, you may need to use Hulu’s recovery tool. This will use other account information (if you have that information) to work out which email you have on Hulu’s file. Keep in mind that Hulu accounts that have been created through a third party, such as Amazon or Apple, will use the same email address you have recorded with those companies.
Renew your Subscription
When your Hulu account expires, you will not be able to log onto any of your devices to access their service. This will occur if you have missed a payment or if you have cancelled your subscription.
You can still log onto the Hulu website to reactivate your subscription. Once the subscription is reactivated, you will be able to log onto all devices again.
Activate your Account
You might not be able to log into your Hulu account if you have signed up through an entertainment bundle, such as the Disney Bundle, Hulu with Sprint Unlimited Bundle, Spotify Student Bundle with Hulu, etc.

When signing up to one of these bundles, Hulu is not automatically activated and you will not be able to log in. In order to activate Hulu, you will need to go to the accounts page of your other accounts (such as Disney+ or Spotify) and complete the Hulu activation process through the third party.
Connect to your Home Network
When you sign up for any Hulu live TV plan, you are required to register your home network. This is because Hulu will only allow you to use this service at home through a non-mobile device, such as an Apple TV or Fire TV Cube. For mobile devices, such as a tablet or smartphone, you can access Hulu’s live TV service away from home, but only if you ‘check in’ to your home network once every 30 days.
This means that you will not be able to log in if you have taken your Apple TV (or other non-mobile device) to someone else’s house, or have taken your phone on a holiday without checking in to your home network before you leave. However, there are ways to work around this, which I will explain further down (under ‘Can’t Use Hulu Away From Home’).
Hulu Activate Not Working
Turn Off Ad Blockers
Sometimes Ad Blocker software can disrupt the Hulu activation page. If your activation page is not loading, try disabling or uninstalling ad-blocking plugins, apps or software on your computer or device.
Try Another Browser
Hulu will work better on some browsers compared to others. Google Chrome, in particular, seems to struggle with the Hulu website and may be preventing the activation page from working. Try using a different browser to fix this issue.
Restart your Browser or App
Sometimes small errors can occur when trying to load the Hulu website. These errors can occur for a number of reasons, such as if the internet drops out temporarily or not having enough storage space. Simply close the browser and try again.
Clear your Browser Cache
Normally the browser cache is used to store temporary data that helps websites run more efficiently. When the browser cache becomes too full, they no longer run smoothly and may even freeze, which could be causing the activation page to malfunction. You can find the settings to clear your browser cache under ‘History’ in most browsers, or under ‘Privacy’ in Safari.
Hulu Login Page Won’t Load
A full browser cache, mentioned above, can also cause the Hulu login page not to load. If you have already cleared the cache, you can try the troubleshooting methods below. Keep in mind that this may also be due to poor internet, which I will discuss further down.
Force Close Hulu
Restarting the Hulu app may allow it to reconnect to the servers, enabling the login page to load. On most devices, you will need to force the app to close because returning to the home screen usually leaves the app running in the background. Once you have forced the app to close (from background apps), open it and try again.
Check for Updates
Updating your Hulu app and your device will allow bug fixes to be installed. Sometimes bugs in the firmware prevent basic functions, such as loading the login screen, but developers will work to release a bug fix in the next update. You can update the Hulu app through your device’s app store, and update your device through Settings.
Reinstall the App
Reinstalling the Hulu app is an easy way to install the latest firmware on your device as well as clear all temporary files and errors from the app. You can uninstall and reinstall the Hulu app through your device’s app store.
Enable Location Settings
Some Hulu functions will not work unless you have location services enabled on your device. This is particularly important for smart phones and tablets, which allow the user to turn this setting off.
Hulu Account Page Won’t Load
Check your Internet
Any Hulu page that will not load can be a result of poor or slow internet, or the issues mentioned above. If you suspect your network is preventing the account page from loading, you can check your internet by trying to load a different website or app.
If the other website will not load, you know that the internet needs to be fixed. You can troubleshoot your internet using the following methods.
- Restart your modem/router
- Move the modem/router and device closer together
- Reduce interference from other devices, such as radios, microwaves, Bluetooth devices or other networks
- Work around objects that may block the signal, such as metal, solid timber or concrete or water
- Try using an ethernet cable
You may also need to check the speed of your internet to ensure it is fast enough to load the Hulu website. The minimum download speed required to use Hulu is 1.5MB/s, which allows you to stream in Standard Definition. You can test your internet speed through websites such as Speedtest.net.
Check the Hulu Servers
You should also consider the fact that the Hulu servers may be down, preventing you from accessing their webpages (not just the accounts page). This can be due to maintenance or a technical problem on their end. You can check if the Hulu servers are down by calling customer service or by checking websites such as Down Detector.
Can’t Use Hulu Away From Home
As I mentioned earlier, Hulu requires you to check in with your home network to use their live TV plans. Therefore, if you are away from home, you may not be able to log in.
However, if you want to play Hulu on a friend’s TV, you can use your phone or tablet to cast or mirror the Hulu app to the TV. If they do not have a smart TV, you will need something like a Chromecast device to cast onto the TV instead. In regards to checking into your home network for phones and tablets, as long as you aren’t away from home for more than 30 days, you should be able to check in to your home network with the app just before you leave.
If you are away for an extended period of time, you will need to access your Hulu accounts page through a web browser, delete all your devices associated with the account and then re-login on your device. You can also change your home network up to four times per year, so you could also register another network as home if you are staying in the same holiday accommodation for an extended period of time.
Hulu Password Not Working
If your Hulu password is not working, you may be entering the wrong details into the email or password section. You can find details above regarding resetting your password or finding the correct email address for Hulu.
Another possibility is that the Hulu servers are down. Even if you have the correct password, you will not be able to enter the website or the app if your device cannot connect to their servers. As mentioned earlier, you can check if the Hulu servers are down through websites such as Down Detector, but you will have to wait for them to be fixed to login again.
