If you own a Samsung TV, you should have the ability to download and install different applications that can be tailored to fit your viewing needs and preferences with the Smart Hub. Through this capability, many Samsung owners choose to subscribe to and download the Discovery Plus app. Through this app, they are able to enjoy a content type that focuses more on facts and reality, but when Discovery Plus is not working, what can be done?

If Discovery Plus is not working on your Samsung TV, try to reset your TV through quick power reset. To do this, unplug your TV directly from the power outlet and allow it to sit for 60 seconds. You will then plug it back in and try once more to use the Discovery Plus app on your TV.

Once you have performed a power reset on your Samsung TV, but you notice that Discovery Plus is still not working, you may need to clear the cache of the Discovery Plus app. To do this, press the ‘Home’ button on the remote and click on ‘Settings’ > ‘Apps’ > ‘System Apps’ > ‘Discovery Plus’ > ‘Clear Cache’ > ‘Ok.’ Once you select ‘Ok’ the cache will be cleared. When complete, exit out of the app and then reopen it to see if it is working once again.

If you have cleared the cache and reset your TV, try restarting the Smart Hub. To do this, press the ‘Home’ button on your remote control and select ‘Settings’ > ‘Support’ > ‘Self Diagnosis’ > ‘Reset Smart Hub.’ Once you have completed these steps, the Smart Hub will then begin to reset, which may clear up any minor issues that Discovery Plus was previously encountering, causing the app to not work as it should.

When using the Smart Hub on your Samsung TV, you would expect to be able to search for and find just about any app that you wish to download. Although this may be true for some models, for other Samsung TVs, the app availability may be more limited, which means that when you search for one particular app, you may not be able to find it as an available download within the Smart Hub. If you can’t find Discovery Plus on your Samsung TV, take a look below.

If Discovery Plus is not showing up, is not available, or cannot be found on your Samsung TV, check to see the Samsung TV model that you own. If the model is a 2016 model or older, it does not support the application from within the Smart Hub, which is why it cannot be found.

To find the model code and serial number of your Samsung TV, you should be able to find it on the right side of the TV itself. If you do not see the numbers there, try looking on the back of the TV. Once you have found these numbers, you can look up the model to see what year it was manufactured in. If you find that your TV is 2017 or newer, then the TV is compatible with Discovery Plus, but if older than 2017, you cannot download the app to your TV.

If you find that you cannot download the application to your TV, you may be wondering if there is still a way that you can have access to the app while still owning a Samsung TV. Luckily, there are other streaming products that can simply be connected to your TV and from there, you can download Discovery Plus through their own system. These types of products include those like Roku, Amazon Firestick, and Apple TV, which can all support the Discovery Plus app.

Samsung TV Discovery Plus Won’t Download/Install

You may not be having issues finding the Discovery Plus application, as you may either have a new enough model that supports it, or have a device that allows it to be installed as well. However, although you may have no issues discovering the app, you may notice that once you go to download and install Discovery Plus, you are met with a little resistance. If Discovery Plus will not download and install on your Samsung TV, read below to find the solution.

If Discovery Plus won’t download and install on your Samsung TV, the issue could lie within your network. To resolve this, unplug your modem or router directly from the power outlet and allow it to sit unplugged for 60 seconds. Once passed, plug it back in and allow it to reset.

Once the router has completely reset, you can then turn your TV back on and try once more to download and install the Discovery Plus. Oftentimes, this reset will clear up any network congestion that may exist temporarily within your network. If the reset does not offer a fix, be sure that your router is close enough to the TV to emit a strong enough signal for such downloads. If too much distance or material is between, it can cause connection problems.

If you suspect that the distance between the router and your TV is the issue, try moving the router to a closer spot nearer to your television. Be sure to avoid placing it in a room that has multiple walls obstructing the signal, as thick walls can be a major problem for TVs trying to pick up a strong enough signal to download an application from the internet. Once you have moved the router, allow it to boot completely back up before trying to download the app again.

Samsung Discovery Plus Not Loading/Opening

Once you have been able to find the Discovery Plus app on your Samsung TV, you download it and install it without issue, the next following event should be the loading and opening of the app. For some, it may take a few seconds for the app to load before you are met with the Discovery Plus home screen. However, if you find that when you click on the app the loading page does not budge and the app refuses to open, what can you do to get things going?

If the Discovery Plus app is not loading or opening on your Samsung TV, try turning your TV off and back on again. When you do this, allow the TV to sit for 30 seconds or so and then navigate back to the app. This can sometimes resolve temporary network or application glitches.

If you turn your TV off and back on again but the app is still not loading or opening, you may need to reset your network. To do this with a modem or router, refer back to the previous section, “Samsung TV Discovery Plus Won’t Download/Install.” Give your modem or router plenty of time to reboot before trying to open the app again, as if you try too soon, the network will not be connected and you will still encounter issues with the app opening.

Once you have reset your network, you may still be having problems with the Discovery Plus app opening on your Samsung TV. If this is the case, you may need to uninstall and reinstall the app. To do this, press ‘Home’ > ‘Apps’ > ‘Settings’ > ‘Discovery Plus’ > ‘Delete.’ Then, to reinstall the app after it has been deleted, press ‘Home’ > ‘Apps’ > click the ‘Search’ icon > enter ‘Discovery Plus’ > ‘Install’ > then input your username and password.

You have finally gotten through finding, downloading, installing, loading, and opening the Discovery Plus app and have landed on your favorite show, ready to begin watching. However, after all of this trouble, you discover that the show won’t play. You press the play button over and over, but no matter what, the screen is unmoving and you are left without a thing to watch. If Discovery Plus will not play on your Samsung TV, is there a solution to fix the issue?

If Discovery Plus won’t play on your Samsung TV, check to make sure that you have an internet speed that is able to support the content on Discovery Plus. The recommended internet speed is 1.5 Mbps, therefore, if your internet speed is lower than this, it could be causing video play issues.

More than the recommended speed of 1.5 Mbps, Discovery Plus also recommends that all SD quality videos have an internet speed of 2.5 Mbps and that all HD quality videos have a speed of 4 Mbps. Depending on which type of video you are trying to watch, you need to make sure that your internet is able to support the content that is being streamed to your TV screen.

To check the speed of your internet, simply find a speed test online and let the test run. Once it has completed, you will be given the speed of your internet and can then determine your next steps. If the Mbps speed is ok, but is still encountering problems with the videos playing, it may be wise to set up a wired connection to your TV. This often offers a more stable connection, which offers fewer problems with loading and playing content from downloaded apps.

Disappointed man while watching

You may be able to play Discovery Plus with a problem, but once you are in the middle of watching a show or documentary, you might be faced with a frozen screen or a screen that freezes and unfreezes constantly. A frozen screen is just about as useless as a screen that is turned off, therefore, when you are met with this issue, it is likely that you want an immediate solution. To find out how to fix a frozen or freezing screen on your Samsung TV, read below.

If Discovery Plus on your Samsung TV is frozen or keeps freezing when you are in the middle of watching content from within the app, check to make sure there are no widespread problems with the app itself. This can be found and confirmed on the website of Discovery Plus.

If all things are reading as operational for Discovery Plus, then it is time to move on to other troubleshooting methods. Next, try signing out of the app and then signing back in. This can sometimes reset the app and will clear out any small issues that may be causing videos within the app to completely freeze or freeze intermittently without end.

Once you have signed out and signed back into the app, if you are still not able to play content without Discovery Plus freezing, check to see if the app needs to be updated. To do this, press the ‘Home’ button on your remote control and select ‘Apps’ > ‘My Apps’ > ‘Options’ > ‘Auto Update’ and any available updates will automatically ensue once you have pressed this. When complete, every app will automatically update when an update becomes available.

When opening the Discovery Plus app, you should be able to immediately see the home screen within the app and navigate to any content you desire to watch within a matter of seconds. If you open the app or go to play content within it, yet are met with a black screen, this leaves your ability to navigate and use the app completely paralyzed. If a black screen appears on your Samsung TV when using the Discovery Plus app, read below to find out what you can do.

If Discovery Plus is displaying a black screen on your Samsung TV, one of the first things you need to do is reset the Smart Hub. To do this, refer back to the previous section, “Samsung TV Discovery Plus Not Working” and follow each step to reset the Smart Hub properly.

If you have reset the Smart Hub but are still not able to rid Discovery Plus of the black screen, check to see if your Samsung TV has any available software updates. To do this, press the ‘Home’ button on your remote and click ‘Settings’ > ‘Support’ > ‘Software Update’ > ‘Update Now.’ If an update is available, it will automatically begin to download and install, which could be the solution to getting Discovery Plus back into working order without a black screen appearing.
